I just recently bought a 1995 Maxima SE in Ruby Pearl with a manual gearbox back in March from of all things... the original owner (an older lady) who bought it new in 1995. Garage kept it's entire life, body and paint are in great shape minus 25 years of use, interior is nearly immaculate, virtually no rust except for the rad support (basically rust killed these cars). Car had 227k miles on it when I bought it and was still on the original clutch which me & my friend have since verified after replacing the clutch (clutch had Nissan stamped on it lol). The lady who owned this car should give master classes in how to drive a manual, because the clutch still had life left on it (what would have gone on the clutch was the springs), the flywheel was absolutely spotless (my friend just lightly sanded it). Car runs and drives way better than it has any right to and the lady who owned it gave me 10 years of repair bills along with the original window sticker in perfect condition (I nearly fell on the floor when she showed me). What sets apart Doug’s channel from others is he gives a detailed intro to vehicles one otherwise hasn’t seen, from a “tire kicking” perspective. That and he does have an engaging personality. Interesting cars, interesting “quirks and features” and an interesting personality.
Doug's reasons for success? Three, in my opinion, that come together beautifully: 1. His personality. Passionate, quirky, infectious, relatable. He's one of us, and his love & excitement of cars transfers to you the viewer. 2. His structure. You know what to expect. "THISSS", which is hilarious. A fun beginning with Quirks & Features that show off his personality. A Doug Score at the end that introduces a competitive & informative component to it. I remember when his Rivian and Lucid reviews came out, people were mentioning Doug Demuro's reviews when talking RIVN and LCID stock prices.
Doug’s dead on about that Civic and the rest of our high school cars. I think it’s safe to say that you guys, and evidently that Civic buyer, got to your money years sooner than your peers. I genuinely believe Doug is so successful because in his videos you can see his genuine excitement about the cars he's looking at. Something like that which cannot be faked keeps people interested. Just a genuine guy talking about the details that interest him but are generally ignored by 99% of the world.

I met Matt once at C&C and it didn’t come to me that, that was his lambo. I was driving a beat up 733i and so when I left I saw the red lambo leave so I followed and looked who was in it and there was Matt. So I followed him to a coffee shop and we talked a bit about cars. He was very impressed with the fact of the condition of that 733i for the price I paid for it. So much so that when a 3.0 CS came in to the same shop he laughed at that guy and said you could have had one of these for cheap. And I’ll have to meet Doug in the future. I hope I run into Matt and Doug in the future.
I'll tell you right now why Doug gets so many views: FORMAT and CONSISTENCY. People know what they're going to get and he gets into all the weird little details that car guys love. It's both super nerdy and esoteric but also very widely appealing to a huge spectrum of car people.
Matt and Zach: I have a hypothesis of why dougs channel does so well. TH-cam stack ranks videos by category and quality in a way that is a blackbox. All of his videos have comments like: “Doug is the type of guy that ”. I think this causes his vides to stack rank higher in the quality score and thus causes his videos to play next when viewing vidoes on other channels. I think this causes him to get more exposure. The community is doing something weird that is accidentally bumping the videos up.

Just discovered the podcast. Would love to hear more of Matt's thoughts on politics like what he talked about in the end. I definitely have some stories of encounters myself. One was on the Ben Franklin bridge where a Philadephia cop did a quick movement as if he was going to hit me when I was driving next to him after he and I looked each other in the eyes. Just wanted to say it was good to hear that you're not ignoring it.
I follow 3 or 4 car channels pretty close. #1 Doug Demuro, #2 Savagegeese, #3 Throttle house, #4 Straight Pipes. Matt seems like a likeable guy and his last guest spot on JRE is one of my favorite episodes. I don't necessarily follow his car review channel, but I like to hear him talk about cars. I just watched a video of him going to the the Ferrari whisperer shop to look at progress on his 328. Great content.
Moving the podcasts off the main channel makes sense. I get a notification on my lunch break for a 90 minute video and I just ignore it until I have time for it. I rarely watch anything as long as a podcast in the vital first 24-hours. YT is probably seeing a lack of clicks-thrus on notifications and home pages then bumping the channel off of recommendations.
yeah you nailed it, i think Doug makes his videos about what other people want to see. I love the ones takes in a different way because it shows me how a car feels driving. I would say that I would like more from the inside. as that is where I'd be sitting as a driver. I watch one takes to know what it's like to drive a car. I'd like to see more of how it looks to drive it.

Doug’s dead on about that Civic and the rest of our high school cars. I think it’s safe to say that you guys, and evidently that Civic buyer, got to your money years sooner than your peers. The rest of us are years or maybe even a decade behind being in position to go out and buy our childhood or high school dream cars. We’re just scratching the surface right now.
Matt of Obsessed Garage bought that. It was his THE car in High School.
One of the best shows ever. Keep up the good work Matt and team.
Hanging out with you guys would be amazing. Love listening to the open discussion and all the crazy stories. Hope everyone is staying well!
I genuinely believe Doug is so successful because in his videos you can see his genuine excitement about the cars he's looking at. Something like that which cannot be faked keeps people interested. Just a genuine guy talking about the details that interest him but are generally ignored by 99% of the world.
Made it over! Thanks Zack and Matt for years of great content!
Zach was waiting for that “THISSS”.
I wish someone would laugh at my jokes the way Matt laughs at his own
KKKKHEHHEHEHHEEHHEEHHEHHEHEHEHEHEHEHEHEH
It really is one of the most annoying things a human can do.
And Matt wonders why he isn't more popular...
@@richp7457 Its like a even more annoying Seth Rogan laugh.
Honestly Doug deserves a Carrera GT aka nothing but the best! Such a genuinely great guy!
Sorry Matt & Zack for the "Doug is the Type of Guy" Joke...
But Doug is the type of guy to not untangle his earbud cord...(I'm OCD and his cord tangle is driving me nuts!)...
And as I type, Doug is discussing negative comments...lol
Love y'all!
Hey Matt, Always loved the content. You were the early trailblazer and still producing great content and as a member of the car community I just wanted to say I appreciate your time and effort over the years that you have put into videos. Good luck with the car storage/club, I hope it is successful and look forward to seeing the cars stacked high.
LMAO the private plane part had me rolling on the floor. Matt said "PJ's" love you guys
Big time congrats and love for the new channel, looking forward to much more entertaining and technical and hilarious episodes that get my mental gearbox going. Nothing but love to everyone involved.
Best Car Podcast in recent years. I actually laughed out loud multiple times during this. Such an interesting take on everything automobile. With all the Quirks and odd features of the decisions of car manufacturers. Five stars.
Love you, Doug! I literally never, ever, miss your content. You're genuine, consistent your format is absolutely for Matt. Hahaha! Keep on keepin' on, Doug!
Also, I guess Matt is pretty cool too. Haha!
Getting into these podcasts for the first time. These are a great to watch/listen. Thanks Matt and Zach for the work you do!
Will never run into you guys in STL, but wish you all the best.
Doug, as long as there are new cars, you’ll have reviews, and we will definitely watch them
I met Matt once at C&C and it didn’t come to me that, that was his lambo.
My dad had a navy blue 2002 Maxima SE that was loaded, 6 spd manual, limited slip differential, bose audio, sunroof and leather. SO AWESOME.
I watch Doug because I find out stuff about the car that most other TH-camrs don’t tell me. He’s really nerdy & deep about cars, which is the best.
Never thought about it, but I like the decision to make a new channel. Will make it way easier to find the latest episode!
Great podcast! Had me laughing and learned some things too. Anything with Doug and Matt I’m here for. Thanks guys!
I feel like I could walk up to Doug and talk to him about anything. His charisma is impressive.
Having a podcast channel is nice because for users because most things I don’t want notifications....but a live podcast? Yes please.
Matt, I, and I'm sure many many other people very much like you. Doug is definitely my favorite TH-camr/pro car guy, but you're definitely top 2-3!
“That’s almost a show of bad faith” lmao 🤣😂
Love Doug and his channel, he's a great guy!
Nick Murray and Doug are the best car youtubers to watch. It’s their personality
The Top Gear thing is deep!! "How to unite car people and non car people"! This is why I love Doug. I currently don't own a car!! Lol
Laughed so hard at the Italy plane smoking story! LOLOLOL
Thank you for having descent audio doug
Aww - the S10 Blazer - My father had one of those, with the 4.3 V6 - The biggest V6 engine in any car! - He loved it so much he even replaced the motor after the first one took a shit. He had that S10 Blazer for decades as a work vehicle! I remember the Black exterior and Maroon interior like it was yesterday! - Man, I love shitty weird cars! Thanks for the feels!
We didn't have a Blazer, but we did have the 4.3 in an S10, if that engine wasn't the most reliable thing
seeing doug speaking about the carrera GT with so much star in his eyes is super wholesome
Man you don’t even know how good I slept listening to this podcast, Thanks!!
I love how Doug just stayed silent while Matt when on his white privilege rant. This is why Doug is successful, Matt.
Agreed. I watch car videos to avoid politics
I know it’s a car channel, but we shouldn’t ignore what’s happening right now. White privilege is real even if you don’t come from money and police haven’t been kind to you. I’ve never been tazed but I have several ethnic friends who have
@@nathanchildress5596 white privilege is not real. It’s call good decision privilege.
"All the stupid of that but it's very "Doug"" sums Doug up perfectly.
After that ending I have a new level of respect for you guys. I wish there were a lot more people out there in positions of authority with your outlook regarding overzealous corrupt race inspired enforcement police.
His Bumper to Bumper CarMax videos and articles were the best.
This podcast is so great and so underrated !
Doug, my friend in high school, in the mid to late 2000s actually had a Reatta with the touch CRT, worked!
That Run the Jewels T-Shirt is the coolest thing in this episode
Ah yes! Been waiting for this recording to post!
I'm going to move to San Diego with the sole purpose of becoming best friends for Doug...
Just heard the audio and subscribed here. Keep them coming.
Welcome! You have some catching up to do.
doug is such a sport, fantastic guy trough and trough
yeah you nailed it, i think Doug makes his videos about what other people want to see. I love the ones takes in a different way because it shows me how a car feels driving. I would say that I would like more from the inside. as that is where I'd be sitting as a driver. I watch one takes to know what it's like to drive a car. I'd like to see more of how it looks to drive it.
the discussion on why Doug did so big numbers was super interesting.
Dick Trickle did indeed smoke under caution. Kenny Wallace always said Dick Trickle ran on coffee and cigarettes. He carried a helmet bag and a briefcase to the track. In the briefcase was his stash of Reese's Peanut Butter Cups. Sponsor at the time was Miller High Life. Oldest NASCAR Rookie of Year at 48 years old.
I want Doug to review a Morgan Three Wheeler
It's amazing they talked about Saabkyle. Kyle is for everyone. You want to buy a car just watch his review. love him.
Doug is an American hero.
Doug alernates supercars and econoboxes thats why I like his videos.
Any particular econoboxes you don't enjoy watching? Trying to figure out the balance for my channel.
@@shouldigetit late 80s and 90s Japanese cars are my favorite, I don't think American cars from that time have as much as an appeal
@@Tool0GT92 Oh interesting! So not the newer econoboxes, but rather the unique ones from a few decades ago. Thank you for the insight!
@@shouldigetit the problem with newer economy cars is that they are really nice and have a ton of luxuries. I do like them but the older ones were so much more basic.
Tesla just updated their software to display the side cameras when in reverse. Makes seeing the curb very easy like you mentioned.
I remember when aircraft seats had ash trays in them.
I will build a early 90's Cavalier Z24 at some point. Thanks for the encouragement.
Lmao ill give u that one Zack that fitness model joke was deff funny lol. That was great. I like Doug its really contagious when yas see them all cracking up laughing lol.
I just realized the comment on the paseo convertible. I remember seeing about 3 of those in FL and 2 where for sale
I remember seeing a Ford GT for sale with only 3,000 miles in 2007 or 2008 at a Ford dealership in Sacramento for $120,000😵
Dougs my favorite guest!
57:35 read you on jalopnik, and you became my favorite writer, got your book which was fantastic and you go for the wild things
It's not the algorithm I chose to not click on the videos. And in no way I wish you ill, but I'm glad I'm not the only one that felt that way. I clicked on this video becuase of your guest. I hope things turn around for you, you do have some really good uploads (including this one). 👍
Matt from Obsessed Garage bought that Civic Si. He is doing a build series on his channel to give away.
They never addressed the huge elephant in the room... why isn't he wearing two shirts?
Fun fact: Jess Goldblum was given an early ML after Jurassic Park 2. He still has it
