I like Sid! You can tell she has a dynamic personality! When I have travelled internationally I have always stopped at the ATM at the Airport I arrive at for cash. Also, make sure you tell your VISA or American Express or what ever that you are going to be travelling. If you don't tell them the bank may think your card has been stolen and not let you use it.
Learning to drive a standard vehicle is so easy. Challenge yourself to learn how. That waterfall and critters were beautiful. I love Costa Rica. Did you hear the howler monkeys?

I can understand what you are saying about not having cash in a foreign country. When I was on a layover in Athens, Greece, I found a restaurant where I wanted to eat dinner by myself. I went there earlier in the day to ask them if they took credit cards because I didn't have any cash. They said yes, so I was surprised after I ate dinner when I was told that they didn't take Visa, my only credit card! The owner drove me to an ATM, in the dark, when there were no people around, so I could get cash to pay the bill. Guess I was lucky that nothing bad happened. It was a good dinner. You two have so much fun together. You are so lucky to make these memories.

Why would you go to a place like Costa Rica and not bring cash? Especially the places you are at. So remote. You could have gotten cash at the airport when you arrived.
hahahah they even stopped to buy fruit at the same places we locals do. CR is not the place to learn how to drive a manual (or I should say it DEFINITIVELY IS but not on vacation........when we get our licenses part of the test is to stop on a steep hill ........and engage without going backwards.....3...6...9 feet) . Those coatis (at 9:00) are super cute. I am totally surprised (but glad) the restaurant would take paypal (for sure always handy to have some old style cash)

My first car was a stick shift. I miss that car. I learned to drive a stick on that car. One of the first days I owned it, I killed it three times at a red light. On attempt four, I still blew the shift. I peeled out. There was a cop behind me, I saw him laughing in my rearview mirror. Fun times. It got much easier to drive with practice. 😆

Welcome to 3rd world country car rental, Crazy. I always just get a driver when visiting our home in the DR, way too many nightmare stories about rental cars and payment extortion when turning cars in. Such a bad way to start or end a great vacation. Glad you both had a great time!
Why would you go there without any of their currency ?
I had the same experience with a car in Costa Rica. We were told a price and when we got there is was a couple hundred more. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful place!
