    Had the same issue with the license plate bulb light on the right side. If you take it apart (like 2 - 4 torx bolts dont remember) and see where it's shorted (mine was rusted through the thin metal contact sheet). I took my soldering iron and some spare copper wires and reconnected the circuit and it's been working like a charm.
    Took all of 2 minutes to re-solder and 2 minutes to take it off.

    2001 330XI 167,000 miles and still running. Change out the belts and water pump. Still fast and still strong.

    Nice review. You still got the 3 series? The latch to open the back trunk, all four doors have to be unlock for the trunk latch to work. That's how it opens. ALSO for a good acceleration, clean the MAF. Sensor (Massive air flow). It helps to keep the RPM from fluctuating up and down when coming to a stop. Its attached to the air box hocked on with latches, use electrical cleaner, stray the stem and the chrome plate that is attached to the stem.

    I would go with the continental tires cus they work beautifully here in sweden and we get real heavy winters and those tires are AMAZING :)

    Wow, ur car is mint considering it has 215k miles! Congrats man, I have a 2003 330i but it' has a few quirks which are bugging me right now. 1)the steering wheel shakes when I drive it not when I brake. 2) One of my shocks is leaking 3)my rack&pinion is leaking but not bad 4)my alternator clutch pulley is squeeking. I added some lube to it to do for now and it has worked so far but I know I have to replace it. Overall though considering I've had this car since new, it's never let me down and been reliable. Only thing is once the warranty wore off, I had to learn to work on it otherwise maintenance is expensive.

    I just got a 2002 330xi 5sp and I too came from an e60 M5 6sp. I know what you mean about the steering wheel and the boatish ride by comparison. If you were able to make it feel more like an m5 without turning it into a back breaking track car, let me know what to get!

    can't stop watching E39Source wideos, learnt a lot from you guys. Having 530i for almost several month and I love it...
    New plans in near future to exchange to something with more power.... m62b44 would fit perfeclty, but I'm strict to manual transmisions and in Europe it is hard to find factory facelift model... Should I keep searching or should I change my mind because of some serious issues of 540i/6?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words! Glad you're enjoying our content. If the 530i is clean and runs well, I would seriously recommend you keep it. People usually take good care of those cars, and they'll last forever if so. The 540s were usually beat on and pushed hard and then not maintained. If you do upgrade, I'd search for a nice M5 instead.

    • @wrusss
      @wrusss 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Powerfull cars in LTU are very popular but it is very hard to find in a perfect condition. Mostly all cars imported to LTU have been damaged and fixed in unofficial workshops. If you are lucky and find undamaged - it costs twice as much.
      Of course 530i is enough for daily uses, but I always wanted to drive a stick V8 german - made car. The main thing I concern is how much more expensive will be to service M5 than 540i.

    Can you do the xi vs m5 in snow. I'm considering getting the m5 soon but don't have room for a second car. Plus it snows pretty bad here in Connecticut. Thanks. Keep the great videos coming.

      The M5 won't touch snow this year, but I do have four years experience with it in snow. I can make a video about that. Would you prefer that I do it now and talk, or wait until we have snow and then talk about the xi in the snow too? Your call!

    I had a similar problem with my sunshade, I thought it was missing, turns it was stuck right at the back. Apparently the clips that allow the sunshade to run along the guide can go brittle and break off, quite a conmon problem, you can get replacement clips cheap enough and there is good info online on how to remove the sunroof. Nice M5 btw

    its the wiring to your boot latch part. it is prone to failing, you can purchase a replacement kit .. that way your license plate lights will work and your boot will always open from the boot lid

    • @E39Source

      The panel that holds the license plate lights was damaged. I replaced the whole thing, and now it works perfectly.

      monstergear49 I replaced all four parking brake shoes, the springs, and the other few small pieces of hardware that make it work. I did a video on the channel about a parking brake rebuild. Then adjust it very well both at the wheel and in the car, and it's as good as new!

    Some E46 saloons definitely have their fair share of kinks/problems, your driver side seat belt retractor is just probably worn out not too sure if its a common thing, I had a funny situation happen with my seatbelt buckle tho, having be stuck in my car was actually kinda scary thinking i couldn't get out since i didn't have my knife or phone and needing to change my tire at night on the side of the road...Note: never experience any of what i just mentioned. lol #liveandlearn

    I bought an e46 330xi 5speed, mint condition both interior and exterior and brand New nokian hakkapelitta 9 for the winter, 122k on the odo and 20,000$ spent on maintenance during that time, reckon i can get 100k miles more? I have rain sensor big navigation etc,basically all the option sports seats

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      These cars will last forever if they are well taken care of. Keep healthy suspension components and sensors in the car, and it'll treat you well for at least another 100k. Mine currently has 235k and the mechanics have been good. I have had to replace some control arms, bushings, fuel pump, the usual suspects for that kind of mileage.

    I also have a 330xi (2005). Great job!! Halos are really easy to add and only cost less than $50. (I got LED halos that are bright as hell and tapped the accessory wire for power). FYI I also have those rims, they are from an 06 BMW x5, not standard.

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Simon Bodner Could you refer me to which halos you used? I'd like to DIY it. Which accessory wire for power as well? Thanks!

    • @SimonBodner
      @SimonBodner 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I tried to find the exact model of UHP LED halos for sale, but they weren't there anymore; I got them 2 years ago. When you order them, they will come with instruction on which wire to clip the provided tap to have it work like daytime running lamps. There is also a fuse going to the glove box that you can tap to have the halos fad in and out when you unlock and lock the doors (I didn't do it). If I had to do it again I might go with www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00OPZ3HGU/ref=pd_aw_sbs_auto_9?refRID=1H1J77668FFHED25076D
      They are more versatile than the ones I got.

    Did US coupes not get the LED taillights? There are ones available in the UK for not silly money, and they don't have the stupid orange lenses on them. There are eBay sellers who ship them worldwide. The only issue is they may throw a bulb warning, as the LED's have a lower resistance... As said before I would recommend Conti's. Have a friend with them on his car and he runs them all year round. Last a long time and no issues at all.

    • @E39Source

      There are E46s here with LED tail lights, they look great, but I'm not ready to spend a lot on them. And then you loose the trunk interior lighting.

      @MrGaryGG48 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've had my 2001 330xi for about 6 years and 50,000 miles. If I'm just in traffic around town, mine averages about 18-20 MPG, but on a long trip like San Francisco area to Seattle, I've averaged 27-28 MPG at a steady 75-80 MPH. Mine has the 5-speed manual. It has 175,000 miles on now (September 2017) and it's still tighter and runs smoother than most other cars I've driven in the past 50 years with half that many miles!! It's not the fastest car around but it doesn't hold up any traffic and it will easily run with the best of them on any crooked back roads in Northern California. It's very comfortable cruising at 70-100 mph for long distances... if my wife is asleep!! ;^)

      I would expect it to go over 250,000 miles, 300k miles if you continue to maintain things properly. Get a fresh MAF, O2s, spark plugs, and cam sensors in there fairly soon. Also replace the fuel filter and get an alignment, and fix anything in the suspension that is causing in to align correctly.

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Alim Felix Push the wiper stock (right) all of the way down. It will pop back up to it's lowest position. Note that you can still push it down a click, but it will rise back up. The extra push down is for one wiper cycle, say a water drop from a bridge lands on the windshield. One click up from it's stationary low point is automatic mode. Then use the adjustment wheel on the stock to adjust the sensitivity.

I do not have experience with that car, so I can't say for sure... maybe someone on the forums (Bimmerforums, BimmerFest) knows more about that feature on your particular 6 series than I do. I only have coding experience with the E46 and E39.

    Is a 2003 bmw 330xi with 102000 miles for 3500 reasonable?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Kadaria Ahmed That seems very cheap, but reasonable. I would have the car looked at (Pre Purchase Inspection) before purchase.

    Does anyone know what the E46 title is for, is E46 the same thing as a 330xi?

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      E46 is the chassis code. The 3-series body style from 1999-2005 was called the E46.

    How to program window up???

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      You need a PC And a special cable and software or you need a mechanic to program it and other features. It's really not recommended to do it yourself unless you know what you're doing.

      Haha nice man just picked mine up with 150k miles. I was afraid yours would have gone out by now with the mileage but hey man congrats glad you still have it how many miles? -- most expensive fix so far? Lol fuck it might as well make an update video!

      I have it still with 230,000 miles. I am looking to sell it because I am moving to California soon and don't need an AWD car. It's been good though! Just needed a few little things. Some expensive and some not.

      Hugh Burrell Even with all of the doors unlocked (unlock central lock or unlock key button 2x) it still wouldn't open. Seems to be working now though. Maybe some attention with that wax made it happier...

    Is 160k too many miles to consider buying? Please don't tell me to Google lol looking for real-time real world answers.

    • @E39Source
      @E39Source  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It totally depends one the car. I've seen 70k mile BMWs that are TRASHED and not worth anything. I've also seen 400k mile cars that are mint, and fit to do a 5,000 mile road trip in a week. 160k wouldn't scare me at all-- providing it has been cared for and maintained throughout it's life.

    • @nicselectronics81

      @@E39Source it looks mint and from the ad was well taken care of. Good to know though I don't think it'll last until I get to it. Thanks.

      +E39Source -Actually I couldn't tell ya man, I was a great deal on Rakuten.com via email for like $35 or something ridiculously cheap like that and I went for it. It's now been like 3 yrs since I installed them and they still look great and function well to this day. My only gripe with them was that it came without instructions, it like a bare bones packaging without branding or anything but they are the 7000k version. I googled the heck out of the instructions because I had to splice an ECU electrical wire to one of theirs and I did not want to screw up my electrical on my car. I was super nervous doing it but in the end it was so worth it because it made my car look so great. INstallation was pretty easy once I figured out the electrical wire I needed to splice.
