In the books Tywin was always described as cold, joyless and humorless since Johanna's death and not being able to find the appeal in such things as music, dance and art. Everything this man does, even for enjoyment (skinning a deer, reading history books, fishing) has a practical reason behind it and is useful as a resource.
To be honest I really felt the pair almost bonded (almost) through sheer hatred of Joffrey. Although Tywin never voiced it. Before Joffrey died, Tywin made absolutely no effort to reign Tyrion in whenever he insulted the king (unless they were in public). My favourite is when Tyrion straight up threatens to kill Joffrey during a council meeting and Tywin immediately just insults Joffrey as well.
The actor is 67 lol. In the books, even in the show, Tywin is only aged around 55 years old. So they cast an actor, who could show a bit of age but also still extremely fit and sharp witted. I think Charles Dance as Tywin Lannister is one of the greatest castings ever made.

Definitely NOT the age they were in the books (they and Ned and Catelyn were all somewhere in their mid-30s in the books whereas by contrast in the show Ned appears to be at least 50). Tywin is certainly in his 60s in the show. They aged everyone up.

Speaking of Connery, the dude who plays Pycelle is Julian Glover. He was the main bad guy in Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade, opposite Sir Sean. He was also one of the finalists to replace Connery as James Bond before the role ultimately went to Roger Moore.

Tbh at first I was confused in the show when he stopped acting like a frail old man but this scene just confirmed that he was faking it the whole time so is there any specific reason as to why he does this🤔
Back then they could cut scene that are just absolutely gold and so intriguing with every word said. I don't believe this scene was really needed that's why it got cut. But man I would of died for some of this dialogue in season 8.

I think in season 1 they did this as a possible storyline where his character would do more but then they decided against it. That's also probably why they cut this scene out as they decided not to pursue this plot line anymore.
I've read all 5 but haven't made it back to read them all again. I can't remember if they mention how pycelle is faking his ineptitude. I think tyrion knows it in one of his POV chapters but I'm not sure
The fact that this scene isn't in the books proves two things : 1- D&D can actually write good dialogues 2- D&D decided, VOLUNTARILY, to write shitty episodes in seasons 7-8
This is what i loved most about Tywin. He sees through bullshit and isnt afraid to get his hands dirty. Saying he built the strongest House isnt all that hard when you have his mindset resources and charisma. I also love how he was sticking up for Tyrion here. Although sadly Tyrion never knew this

It's a great scene. I can tell why it was removed, the scene doesn't put Tywin in a powerful position, it's all about appearances. I would say it's because of the entire composition of shots like this 1:21. Tywin is turned backwards in an awkward position, fishing like a regular person.
Actually the fishing is a powerful metaphor. He's fishing trout, the sigil of the Tullys who he is about to butcher with the Starks at the Red wedding.
I like Pycelle's simple life desire analogy. I've always said I would never want a billionaire's life. All the brings is misery...your friendships, your lover, your family, you allies are a farce. You have nothing but enemies even if you've never wronged anyone. Riches, power and status don't gain you better friends, you don't gain any real happiness, just better enemies and a life of constantly looking over your shoulder.

Of cousre seasons 5 - 8 had the worst plot holes and the dumbest boring dialogues in HBO's history, personally i loved this fact cause it forced me to read the books and they didn't disappoint i just hope George would release the last two before he dies.

Interesting to see how Arabic handles titles from the ASOIAF universe. Masaed al-Malak? That's "Assistant to the King"! whereas for Hand of the King, I would translate that directly as "Yad al-Malak". "House of Lannister" is strangely written as just "لانيستر" rather than "bayt al-Lānistr" which would make more sense. Or even "Āsrat al-Lānistr"
I'd say it's rather contextual، there is no right or wrong، I don't consider my choices of words better than anyone's، but I truly believe that if you understand Arabic you will have no issue with these translations. I did include "آل" ( pronounced "al" A as in apple and L as in leaf ) as a translation to "house" prior to "Lannister". As for the Hand of the king I could have used terms from my own dialect that would fit perfectly, but not every Arabic speaker would understand it so I made it a bit easier and referred to him as the assistant of the king. I would love to know what’s your background in Arabic? Very interesting...

I assumed it was done by an Arabic television network, so I was subjecting it to the scrutiny of having been translated by many people. Being the work of one man is entirely different. As for my background, I'm simple an ASL student, but funnily enough, it was a love of medieval and bronze age Arabic history that drove me to the language.

For the most part, I don't like this series. It's too long, too drawn out, too complex, and too depressing for my taste, but there is no doubt that most of the cast is supremely talented. this is a superbly written scene between two excellent actors. It's too bad they didn't leave it in.
@Gloryclover Actually, History was one of my best subjects. Of course, there's a reason I have difficulty with long, complex story arc series like this, I have an extremely bad case of Attention Deficit Disorder, and that just makes it extremely hard for me to keep track of characters and story elements in a milieu that large. Note that I didn't say it was objectively bad, just that I did not especially care for it. The fact that it was depressing is an objective fact though, and I just don't find depressing things to be entertaining. I didn't like Battlestar Galactica for the same reason. That's just a matter of taste though. As it is, I watched the first four seasons of GOT. From what I understand, there is a broad consensus that the quality declined steadily in seasons five through eight, so I don't suppose I missed much.

It's a great scene. I can tell why it was removed, the scene doesn't put Tywin in a powerful position, it's all about appearances. I would say it's because of the entire composition of shots like this 1:21. Tywin is turned backwards in an awkward position, fishing like a regular person.
Which is a shame, since it adds another layer to Tywin's character
Actually the fishing is a powerful metaphor. He's fishing trout, the sigil of the Tullys who he is about to butcher with the Starks at the Red wedding.

It's so weird because one doesn't notice without having watched this scene that Pycelle wasn't an old stuttering fool and was actually playing a role all along.
They cut it because if the audience would have seen this side of Pycelle, it would be hard to see the other side again.

Of cousre seasons 5 - 8 had the worst plot holes and the dumbest boring dialogues in HBO's history, personally i loved this fact cause it forced me to read the books and they didn't disappoint i just hope George would release the last two before he dies.

"House of Lannister" is strangely written as just "لانيستر" rather than "bayt al-Lānistr" which would make more sense. Or even "Āsrat al-Lānistr"
I'd say it's rather contextual، there is no right or wrong، I don't consider my choices of words better than anyone's، but I truly believe that if you understand Arabic you will have no issue with these translations. I did include "آل" ( pronounced "al" A as in apple and L as in leaf ) as a translation to "house" prior to "Lannister". As for the Hand of the king I could have used terms from my own dialect that would fit perfectly, but not every Arabic speaker would understand it so I made it a bit easier and referred to him as the assistant of the king. I would love to know what’s your background in Arabic? Very interesting...
@@Macven I didn't realize you had made this translation yourself, I apologize. I assumed it was done by an Arabic television network, so I was subjecting it to the scrutiny of having been translated by many people. Being the work of one man is entirely different.
As for my background, I'm simple an ASL student, but funnily enough, it was a love of medieval and bronze age Arabic history that drove me to the language.

For the most part, I don't like this series. It's too long, too drawn out, too complex, and too depressing for my taste, but there is no doubt that most of the cast is supremely talented. this is a superbly written scene between two excellent actors. It's too bad they didn't leave it in.
@Gloryclover Actually, History was one of my best subjects. Of course, there's a reason I have difficulty with long, complex story arc series like this, I have an extremely bad case of Attention Deficit Disorder, and that just makes it extremely hard for me to keep track of characters and story elements in a milieu that large. Note that I didn't say it was objectively bad, just that I did not especially care for it. The fact that it was depressing is an objective fact though, and I just don't find depressing things to be entertaining. I didn't like Battlestar Galactica for the same reason. That's just a matter of taste though.
As it is, I watched the first four seasons of GOT. From what I understand, there is a broad consensus that the quality declined steadily in seasons five through eight, so I don't suppose I missed much.
