I am contemplating 🤔 whether to swap my new gen 4 MT-09 SP. I will wait until the motorcycle show later this month to see the R9 in person before I decide.
Spot on with the red seat nitpick. I remember seeing the r6 model you referenced on the showroom floor back in 09 or 08 (whenever it was). The seat combined with that gen’s aesthetic made it the most visually striking Yamaha I’d ever seen. I still remember it 15 years later. It’s a small detail but a missed opportunity on the r9.
I think I found my new love ❤️ , true Yamaha fans can’t miss this one. As new litre bikes are getting bigger and bigger aero wings this is in sweet position and no one can hate the sound of a 3 cylinder machine
I put red Luimoto seat covers on all my red or black bikes. It's impossible to screw up and they're worth it in quality over stock vinyl. I got a S1KRR with alot of grey/red carbon fiber and it needed the red seat. Black/red is always my colors
I put a deposit on a white R9 the day they announced it. I was second-guessing my color decision, but now I'm more hyped than ever! Thanks for the vid!
Thanks for the video! Love the improvised vibe of it. What I, and probably a bunch of us old folks, want is the R6 power plant with the modern electronics of this bike. I guess I’m old but nothing beats the sound and feeling of 17000 RPMs. We lost the 2 strokes and now we are loosing the 4-cylinders RPM monsters. I’ll would need to test ride it I guess. 🤷🏽♂️
I had the original R1 with the Red seat .. and this looks equally special … love how the dash mirrors the wonderful analog dials and gear position screen in the R6. Hope they sell tons of them..and they will .
five seconds in and i'm like oh damn this bike is like 20 minutes down the street from me haha, i need a sport bike in my life. both my cars rev to 8200+ i need a screamer of a bike too. ive purchased two KTMs from these guys, if they had a supermoto when i wanted one i wouldve too but i got mine from woodinville
People hate it, but this is for new riders like me who want to street and track it. Like we don't wanna go track often or go full out, this is for me to have fun on track and then street it can get anywhere with torque. Definitely for people like me and we are the market. It's new riders not the old riders, because old riders don't want this, but R6 never sold well. Why keep something that doesn't sell. If you wanted an R6 you people complaining shouldve bought it. but but but it's too late R9 is here.
@@amococ2487 Seeing from my community I'm in a lot of them are getting out of sport bikes or they just bought an R1 instead, they tend to not go inbetween, they are like adobo, all power. They track to but they want the full litre experience over this.

@@gavin3810 I am a fairings guy so it's perfect for me. That CP3 is the coolest engine out there. Huge torque, awesome noise and it's so fun to use day to day. R9 ticks the boxes for me

In the Duke 990 release video they hyped up their new LC8c engine and how it was all new stuff inside (I'd assume the 990 RC R has the same one) and how they focus on torque. (Crank) 76 ft lbs on the 990 vs 68 ft lbs on the R9. 425 lbs KTM vs 430 lbs Yamaha too. 8 more ft lbs and about 10 more horsepower with lighter weight for the KTM. Twin vs a triple cylinder too. They both have peak power around 10k RPM. I wanna see how they Dyno against each other, and with an R6. Battle of the 2, 3, and 4 cylinder engines
I cant wait for yamaha to update the rest of their platforms to have these comfort features. The R3 being updated along with the release pf the R9 is a first step, now we gotta get the R7 up to bar and also the R1 eventually needs these upgrades to be a competitive choice for the market.
Yamaha just needs to stop being so conservative, especially their halo models. Its competitors are throwing the whole kitchen sink on their bike/s year after, and yamaha is still offering what it was offering 3-8 years ago. No wonder yearly reviews of Yamahas bikes are kinda the same that they feel dated.
Sadly its true. The black and blue one reeks plastic feel. If I go with this bike cuz I love the engine and can’t get it in white I have to count in a matte wrap job to be done on the fairings.
Whats crazy is the frame alone weighs about as much as the stock exhaust give maybe 5 pounds more for frame. Think about that. Maybe thats why it has Brembos. Because that bike is gonna be FLYING after exhaust swap for track. Just a thought. Because people definitely will get a lighter exhaust and that will make it even more lighter and faster.
R9 is R1M tech and fuel tank, quick shifter. Extension clip on handlebars, the break master down to the breaks is the same as the Ducati V4r. The frame is not hollow like the mt09
The main Yamaha team is replacing the R6 with the R9 while some others are keeping the R6. Pretty sure to see how it compares and I believe the R6 will be slowly completely replaced since these bikes need to be homologated for the race and the R6 is not on the road anymore.
I mean for $12,499 you quite literally can not ask for more. This bike has BMW levels of sophistication with the electronics, 600cc power in a parallel twin weight package, and man does it look good in this video. I can't see why you'd go with an R6 over this unless you are simply stubborn. Yamaha COOKED with this bike.
Maybe the "I can't see why you'd go with an R6 over this unless you are simply stubborn" mention isn't necessary and comes off like someone has a COOKED brain. There are riders that are more talented than you at riding a motorcycle. If you like the R9, get it and stop bringing up things no one is even thinking or caring about. Oh and if you were wondering, the R6 is what the guys who are better at riding a motorcycle than you (there's plenty) are purchasing over the R9. Have fun on your who knows even if you ride.
I'd love one of these... However, as a street ridden bike, the higher performance ceiling really isnt worth it for me considering my XSR900 insurance is $33/mo and this is probably gonna be $140. Now, if I was riding street and also tracking occasionally, this thing will be hard to beat. I've had over a dozen sportbikes, liter bikes included, and the XSR900 has been my overall favorite bike ever, and in most regards, this is just better. The CP3 engine, especially with exhaust and a tune, is the absolute perfect engine for a streetbike. Can't wait to see these things being tested!

Over here in Europe MSRP is MSRP and that's how much you pay for a bike or car, there can be one left and 100 buyers it will sell at MSRP.
Not a Big fan at first because mt09 engine, but checking dynocharts between r6 and mt09 sp looks like the same but the 09 with a way early power input due its torque and I think in person the bike wins a lot. The only aesthetic ick for me is the front light bulb. An aftermarket exhaust is a must and maybe the aero but after all of that, it will be sold out easy.
