Lol, I'm on a similar journey right now. I was looking at Honeywell TPFIT but I read someone's comment praising their Meaco and the algorithm led me here. May I ask, which one did you end up buying?
@@aniljayakarmeaco is better at marketing than building good reliable dehumidifiers, I haven't looked at the honey well but my guess it would be a far better choice. This video is marketing hype that's all probably back handed by meaco or a distribution company selling them. I've took one apart, nothing special I've other Chinese made dehumidifiers so better to buy a cheaper one
My meaco is not as quiet as I thought. In fact, it is very loud. But it might be my own error. I test-run it immediately after the delivery but then 5 minutes later, I noticed in the manual that it is supposed to stand upright for 6 hours before its first usage to let refrigerant settle down. I then stop it and waited for 6 hours to run it again. The humming noise does not go away. But would my error have anything to do with humming noise? Its water extraction is still impressive.
It depends how sensitive you are for noise, surface thats on ( mine on hallow wooden flor was disaster) and with HEPA filter it running louder. Then you have 2 speeds. I placed mine on carpet, removed HEPA filter and it helps a bit. From amount of removed water to fast dry clothes I think it was worth to buy. I have 12l version.
I bought a dehumidifier a year ago after doing alot of research on the initial cost, kwh (energy usage), litres extracted per hour, decibels, water capacity and weight of the machine. Meaco always came out ontop for energy usage over most other brands, but a similar branded machine that extracted the same amount per day usually cost 30-50% the price of the meaco. Meaco always came out on top for decibels (the queitest) but only by 1-2 Db over another model. But I'm only ever using it for 4 months of the year in another room (the rest of the year the windows are open so it's not needed). Yes meaco come with a "warranty", but at double the cost of a similar model which extracts similar amounts of water. In the meantime I can invest the money saved and get a better return and have the money to spend elsewhere if i so see fit or biy another one if the current one breaks down. The meaco always had smallest water buckets roo along with woods and logik. Meaco were generally heavier than the similar sized extraction models. So if you can only afford to buy one of these machines and you live in a house with 2 different floors, you'll need to drag this thing up and downstairs if you want to keep all rooms humidity levels down. Now im not saying meaco are no good, I nearly bought one. However I opted for a tower 20L dehumidifier, it was half the price of the 20L meaco version, it had a bigger water capacity bucke and weighed 1.5kg less (not much I know but youll notice that going up qnd down stairs). It does cost a a bit more to run per day, 30w per hour... However once you have you home down to a desirable humidity level it won't be running. On average 2 hours a day mine runs, if i have washing to dry that'll take care 3-4 or so hours for a load to be dry. He says in the video an ideal home humidity level is 50%... Most days in England are 70-90% humidity outside. So if you have a draughty house you'll never achieve below 60%. Basically youll be sucking outside air in to dehumidify in a draughty house. New better builtz newer houses this may well be different.

Exactly my thought mate, once I was done with the video I searched both dehumidifiers to see what type both of them use and it's a compressor. It seemed to me that these guys are a bit biased towards the more expensive.
i bought a electriq cd10l had for over a year. got text saying it being recalled by appliance direct. phoned them and they sent a brand new to replace the refurbished one i had bought. great company. and it never has a problem getting humiditity down to 50%. i set it on 45% 5 min later room at 50%
everyone saying the meadow is double the price ? but you get a 5 year warrenty where as the other unit is a year so take into account the cost of extended warrenty to make it 5 years... a meaco 12 ltr is £190 5 yr warrenty it is a humidifier/air conditioner Suitable for room size up to 50m². challenge 12 ltr £130 1 yr warrenty (2 yr extended £34) =£164 just a humidifier Suitable for room size up to 24m². so my conclusion would be for the meaco over the same 12 ltr spec challenge. for the extra £30 you get 1. meaco is humidifier/air-conditioner 2. extra warrenty 3 suitable for bigger room capacity
*Note everybody: the Meaco plummets in performance below 18C (I have one). In the winter, in a damp property, get a desiccant dehumidifier. Only draw back is they use more energy. Sup to you.
Which Meaco model do you have..? According to a Meaco short TH-cam video comparing Compressor vs Desiccant dehumidifiers, they stated that their top of the range models perform just as well at lower temperatures.. Researching atm to purchase the right machine for me..!
I've had the arete in a conservatory since it's launch. Non stop now with no issues. Have it on the wall mount. Meaco seem to be a good buy, got the fans too for most rooms.
Oh yes. My tumble dryer broke down this weekend and an engineer is coming to fix it in 5 days. So I put a load of wayside on the clothes dryer and after 14 hours it was still not dry. Then I remembered I had my Meaco dehumidifier that I bought last Black Friday. So I fired up our another load of washing on the rack and it’s dried it all completely in 4 hours!!
I live within 500 metres of the coast in Torbay. Humidity is an issue here, especially in wet weather and winter. I have three Meaco machines; one desiccant and two compressor models. Each is very effective it their own way. Why do I have three ? Because I became tired of moving them from room to room. I have a dog who swims in the Bay twice a day; resulting in a very wet dog and many wet towels every day. I had wanted to put the dog in the tumble drier but my wife was not happy with that approach hence many wet dog mats ! I can vouch for their effectivity. We use the desiccant version for FULLY drying clothes (in our wardrobes) and the compressor versions for general room de-humidification. I have large rooms and will be buying another Meaco very soon. It must be said, I have never tried another brand. Meaco are far from cheap, and availability can be an issue, but they are very effective. I am not am employee, or investor in Meaco.
A Meaco was our 3rd dehumidifier, and though it was quiet, and shifted a lot of moisture, it was worse for noise when the compressor kicked in - a horrid whistle that forced us to switch it off when in close proximity. It was like this from new and Meaco said there was nothing wrong with it noise wise. This was maybe 4 or 5 years ago. Would have I have a Meaco again? Only if the compressor was silent as the quoted db. All the other well known manufacturer dehumidifiers had noise, but noting like this horrendous whistle.
Meaco is running on 50 db on low fan , not even close to the 35 advertised. Not much difference between low fan and high fan to be fair in DB. I am running the Meaco Arete 12L . Quite noisy .
2:47 it's a two handed job... Jon walks away carrying it with one hand 😅😆 Both those things did really well, especially for cost of drying the clothes, compared to a noisy, power hungry tumble dryer that often starts to make clothes stink...
It's easier to keep humidity down in winter provided that you do the sensible thing and have some air circulation. The heat indoors will bring the humidity down but circulating air is a must to remove indoor sources of humidity. The summer is a bigger problem because the outdoor air can get very humid in the UK and it's not possible to remove it via heating during the summer, therefore a dehumidifier or dehumidifying air conditioner is a must.
Depending on your heat source in winter, the heater can increase humidity. I have a propane wall heater (in TX) and my windows will sweat on the inside. Water vapor is a byproduct of the combustion. Cracking open some windows will let cool, dry air in, but my (expensive) hot (moist) air leaks out. Good and bad.
The Electriq is perfectly adequate unless you're taking 5 showers a day. They have a small unit the MD 900 that works just fine for small rooms and cost approx 50 pounds. You'll have to order online cos shops have no interest in anything less than £200.
Useful and interesting experiments - thanks! Will there be a more like-for-like comparison between two units from these brands with similar specs, e.g., the Meaco unit against the similar ElectriQ 12L Low-Energy Quiet Laundry Dehumidifier?
- The Meaco is twice the price but only performs ~20% better across the board - Seeing as the cheaper option is almost half the price, why not buy 2 and run them at the same time? Also, we don't know how well they function after 300+ uses, do they have worse performance after a year?
I have a Meaco 12l and it consumes 200w (think 3 and a bit old lightbulbs) significantly cheaper than a tumble dryer and as pointed out by Modi-Drink-Moot it's British made
Agreed. Had mine for a while and use the laundry mode loads. I keep it on in the bedroom at night and no damp on windows and room gets slightly warm. I do not put any heating on while running this.
