Just bought our first house recently and used a few of your videos to choose the appliances that we had to buy. Very informative. Thanks for making these
Peter I get very hot legs in the summer and especially when it’s raining is it Humidity and would a Dehumidifier help me? BTW I live in a small flat and have not mould as I always have my window open Hopefully you will see if after all this time Brilliant video as always 😋
What size would you recommend for drying out moisture in car carpet underlay in ford focus mk3 hatch after having water leaks? I’ve wet vacuumed most water in carpets but need to dry properly
I used to run a desiccant model (EcoAir) upstairs and found it would stay on most of the time and the air would get too dry and give me dry eye issues in the morning. I swapped over to the Ebac model which is a compressor type dehumidifier with smart mode features which monitors the house humidity and switches on automatically, this can be overridden if laundry is being dried however I find that my Ebac model will switch on automatically if the heating comes on and raises humidity in the house, there is a 5 liter tank which I only need to empty twice a week maximum you can also use an anti microbial filter on the unit which if there is a lot of dampness and black mold the filter will significantly reduce, a quick note though as with all dehumidifiers you will need to treat the black mold with strong bleach initially to kill the mold, if there are large areas then wear a face mask and eye protection when washing off, once this is done turn your dehumidifier to max and leave for a few days to draw ambient moisture out to begin drying the area out. Once the household moisture is under control if using an Ebac then leave on smart mode and it will run itself and when full the red tank full indicator light will come on and the unit will stop until emptied. I cannot stress enough the importance of reducing household humidity which leads to black mold and spores which are pretty toxic, many houses during the winter have their eating on and cook shower and moisture generated from occupants will worsen the problem so the moisture will condensate on windows and areas like bathrooms and bedrooms and mold will take a hold.A decent dehumidifier like the Ebac I have will cost over £200 but over time the unit will save money as humidified air requires more heating than drier air and the health benefits are not something that a price can be put on in my opinion, I definitely recommend every house using one over the cold winter months. I hope my information helps those considering buying a dehumidifier.
Perhaps you should have considered desiccant type dehumidifiers..... "Ambient Temperature - Desiccant dehumidifiers work well in ambient temperature range between 1 to 40 degrees Celsius. Compressor dehumidifiers only work well between 16 to 40 degree Celsius." In our home and use a compressor type dehumidifier was very much useless. The difference when using the desiccant type was amazing in the water extraction.
I use compressor DH to dry shipping storage container and it works well around 10C degrees or more. I don't bother to run it around 5C, because it is too cold and I don't want to waste solar power. Absorbtion DH heats the air and uses more power, so compressor could reach effectively the same performance, just ad some heating. At 20C it is the most efficient.
Good video, but the main thing you missed out is heat pump/refrigerant or desiccant type. Two different technologies for different uses and ambient temperatures.
I was just going to say the same, No1 the types of dehumidifier seems missing 😂. And would have been helpful as I didnt know dessicant existed and its pros and cons
You didn't mention what a good DB noise rating is good for a 12 or 25l dehumidifier. I was thinking of just getting a 25L for the extra large water container, but if it will be noticably louder I"m not sure I would want it, Also because you were wearing a lapel Mic close to your mouth we probably weren't hearing how loud your demo unit was
It depends on ventilation, but humidity will eventually equalise. You can also use a fan to stir the air. I would move it between floors. Also, put monitors in each room.
Which one do you recommend with a big tank please? Badly in need of one as we just had to throw practically everything in our house out due to damp permeating throughout the whole house! Furniture curtains everything! So we are in need of your recommendation for a really good one!
Thnx for posting, great tips! Should put some affiliate links for your fave brands / models? I'm in USA, looking for one of these, now I know what to look for! Do you like compressor or desiccant based machines? desiccant uses much less electricity... Subbed and liked! Keep up the gr8 work! What's your website address?
Fantastic video mate. Tell me something about the number of bedrooms and extraction rates that u mentioned please. You are using it in one bedroom at a time or placeing it in the hallway? Because there is a dehumidifier company that states that their dehumidifer will work on multiple rooms if placed in the central hallway. Will that actually work if the doors to multiple rooms are open? How will it switch off when a certain threshold is reached in such a case? In this case, it will take the humidity level in the hallway to switch off I am guessing?
Most dehumidifiers will work in a hallway rather than just in an individual room but will clearly not be as effective in each room as it is trying to dehumidify several rooms in 1 go. It can still switch off when it it reaches a certain threshold it is almost taking an average of all the rooms.
The most important choice I would say is “what type of dehumidifier technology is being used. Desiccant are generally more expensive to run, but are much more effective at temps below 18 degrees. Desiccants also tend to warm the atmosphere, where as compressors don’t.

Could you tell me what would be a good size for that area. I think the whole apartment is like 700 square feet or something like that?

@@pavel9652 kitchen. While there is NO cooking and with the same amount of people has absolutely NOTHING to do with the number of bedrooms. Not in ANY universe does that make sense
@@DeeTeaDee Ah yes, under your model in which 1) no cooking happens in the kitchen, and 2) it is completely isolated from the rest of the house, and 3) amount of bedrooms is in no way related to amount of people living in the house, performance of DH isn't affected in such regime. In everyone else's model, however, amount of bedrooms is a quick way to determine various household needs such as amount of solar panels, heating or size of DH.

Hi, did you mange you find one?
Is it recommend to keep it on 24hrs a day?
If it's in an area that gets quite damp then yes it can help to have it on low all the time.
Last year LG came up with a new dehumidifier model (MD19GQGA1) that uses inverter technology for compressor. It's really quite.
For continuous drainage you will need one with a pump for emptying the tank unless you are draining a very short distance on gravity.
What is the name of this one that you are using please?
This is a very good review! Thank you so much for providing all the valuable information, now it's easier to pick one I need. Again, many thanks!
