It waa a decent follow-up to the first one. It wasn't as bad as the word of mouth it's quicky getting as most are quick to gleefully post, and it still manages to be better than most other contemporary horror films. I liked most of the parallel nods to the first one...little touches of recognition here and there. It managed to develop it's tone and atmosphere and flesh out a few characters. Now...I do agree that there was a few scenes that were cringy due to awkward obligatory inclusiveness, a strange monologue regarding community and unity also the use of the CGI (Disneyesque mist). What made it worth it to see this for me, was the last minute scene before the end credits. A C+ I would give it, but i think in time, would get more appreciation.
Ann Dowd is fantastic and believable in her roles as a devout religious nut. The most noteworthy, being her role as Aunt Lydia Clements in A Handmaid's Tale. The audience can see aspects of Aunt Lydia in Paula in The Exorcist: Believer.
Thanks for the review. I watched this mess at an advance free screening. I truly hated every minute of it. One of the biggest films disappointments that I have ever experienced. David Gordon Green did such a disservice to the 'Halloween' franchise. And now he's being allowed to do it to 'The Exorcist'. He has made some very good films earlier in his directing career. Thanks
Nobody watched it without trying to compare it to the original. Nothing compared can be enjoyed so why even try lol if you can’t see it for it’s own film don’t watch it
I think the problem is the film itself doesn’t do what you’re saying. It’s trying very hard to be The Exorcist when it should try to be its own film. Made me wish it were focused solely on one different religion attempting to help these girls rather than doing the same kind of thing the first film did. Check out The Exorcist III if you haven’t already! I think it stands as its own film while still fitting nicely as a sequel!

That last-minute scene before the credits was incredible, I loved it, it's also the main reason I went to see this in a theater in the first place.
