@@dragonfurry69 With the meme out of the way, the idea of re-dubbing the exorcist with lines from Coast to Coast is totally doable. I'm 90% sure that at some point SpaceGhost vomits in an episode and if he doesn't the spit take sound effect could be used for the pea soup scene. "Hey rapp'n space goblin what's the word on the street about a good diet?" "I'm going to follow him to his home, kill his whole family." "Thank you for coming to my magic show."

@@robfinlay8058 yeah I could see your point there. But I don't think you really need to show her walking around more. The exorcist is more about the idea of something happening than it is showing it. They did throw some stuff in to show it's the whole house. The recut version shows the demon face in the refrigerator. The initial ouija board scene is in the basement. I just felt like when I saw the recut in theaters, the spider walk scene sort of upped the threat level. At least we have both edits so you can watch whichever one you like more.

I really liked the alternate version of the spider walk scene where Reagan’s tongue is going in and out and she crawls at them more than the blood coming out of her mouth. I feel it’s creepier and less over the top as the blood coming from her mouth because it’s so uncanny; but the blood version is certainly more startling and adds more textbook horror to the experience. Either way, the scene should’ve never been cut if you ask me. I remember that scene scared the hell out of me as a kid. I was afraid to watch the movie. Just today saw the film again in theaters for it’s 50th anniversary, and I still had chills. 10/10 movie!

i remember working at a movie theater when the exorcist the begninning was showing, me and the crew thought the movie it self was possesed because we would have to go up and check on the film to make sure the Platters that the film was on, was not spinning so fast it would cause a brainwrap (film getting tied up through the pully's). this film broke down so many times, and the Projector kept breaking down too. One time i Went up to manually control the speed of the platters. it got so out of control that the film slid off the platter and fell in my lap! i then had to throw film up onto the platter until eventually the film started wrapping on itself, i had to shut the projector off manually. I keep thinking of so many moments when that film was being played. Pain in the ASS!!!

This movie snuck up on me when I first saw it. I'll admit I was a victim of the reputation it had. I was pretty bored at first and was like "this is it?". By the end though it had pulled me in and scared the shit out of me. The build up and execution is perfect. The fact that it starts out mundane and kind of boring and builds up to the crazy shit is why it works. It's the perfect slow burn and quite possibly the perfect movie in terms of pacing.

Talking about how good the sound design of The Exorcist is, his previous film The French Connection has amazing sound design too. It's one of my favourite parts of it. It's hard to explain but everything is so satisfying in its sound, it's almost like ASMR. Everything is clicking and you hear the sounds of every little action someone is doing with their hands, everything makes sound. Normally you don't get that much detail in films, they'll only make the big obvious things have sound, like footsteps, putting a mug down on a table, closing a door etc. But with this it's like no let's make everything have sound. And it doesn't overwhelm the film either it all just sounds natural. It reminds me of Sunday afternoons as a kid when old films when on TV, it's that kind of relaxing.

Explore the mystery of faith. And the movie approaches it in a very “matter of fact” way.

I figured out the head swiveling scenes: The first time Regan does the 180 degree head spin in front of Chris is actually not happening. The demon is taunting Chris pretending to speak in Burke Denning's voice. During the exorcism scene when Regan's head turns 360 degrees around, I think that only Karras sees it, the same way that the demon turns into his deceased mother. It's not actually happening in a physical sense. The demon is so psychologically powerful, it can make you literally hallucinate. It's designed to break the observers down and create utter hopelessness. Otherwise, Regan would have been killed.

The scene where Regan projectile vomits at Father Karras only required one take. The vomit was intended to hit Jason Miller in the chest, but the plastic tubing misfired, hitting him in the face. His reaction of shock and disgust while wiping away the vomit is genuine, and Miller admitted in an interview that he was very angered by this mistake.
Due to death threats against Linda Blair from religious zealots who believed the film "glorified Satan", Warner Bros. had bodyguards protecting her for six months after the film's release.
In an interview, Jason Miller stated that he had a major verbal confrontation with William Friedkin after the director fired a gun near his ear to get an authentic reaction from him. He told Friedkin that he is an actor, and that he didn't need a gun to act surprised or startled.

Speaking of behind the scenes, The Exorcist’s production is one of the most fascinating and informative pieces. It selves more into the actors’ relationships than the effects. For example, Friedkin frequently mentions how he tried to relate to Linda Blair and make her feel at ease, especially during the Pazuzu outbursts... Also, funny how Jay mentions the old married couple dynamic between the original two Bills (the other two being Pullman and Paxton)

What the modern movie goer probably doesn’t understand is that CGI didn’t exist back in the 70s and we had not seen anything as realistic as The Exorcist, Friedkin took the Blatty novel of the same name and turned it into the most terrifying film that the generation of the time had ever seen. To me it is the defining horror/supernatural film of all time, sure there where parts that haven’t aged well (the vomiting and head turning scenes) but the story, acting, director and for most parts the special effects are all spot on. If they remade it today it would be brilliant graphically but I bet they would make a right mess of it.
The Exorcist is a fantastic piece of cinema history.

People who were not around when it came out in theater just don't realize how ground breaking it was and how terrifying it was. I am old enough to have seen it in theater (I was too young to be allowed in but I managed to sneak in). I have never been as terrified in my life. You can blame it on me being young, but I can tell you that adults were as terrified. In my opinion, it was the first truly horrifying film ever made. And it is not just a horror movie, it has so much psychological subtext, such as the guilt of Karras concerning his mother.
I honestly have not seen anything anywhere as scary in the last 40 years (although I did like Blair Witch Project and The Shining). I don't understand how anyone could say that it is boring or not scary. Maybe they think that horror means jumps scares or torture porn...
I also found scary four other horror movies in the 1970's: Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Omen, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and Alien. But they are all still quit behind The Exorcist as fas as gut churning fear is concerned.

Something I've always found so low key tragic is how most of the people who dismiss this movie seem to do it for the stupidest reason: Their parents always hyped it up as the scariest movie ever, then when they finally saw it, it couldn't live up to it's reputation. Now a certain disappointment would be totallyunderstandable, but it often seems to result in an out and out hatred for this movie....what the fuck is up with that??? Why do so many people seem to have no ability to just set aside what their stupid parents say and judge this ABSOLUTELY GREAT movie on it's own merrit? DO I personally think it's the "Scariest" movie ever? Not even close, but it's a truly fantastic film in it's own right. I take no issue with people who dislike this movie cause they think it's genuinely bad, for whatever reason, that's all opinion. But when people dislike a movie based on nothing but the fact that it didn't live up to their pre conceived notions or expectations of it.....that's just bullshit of the highest order🤬

"The Exorcist" is actually a composite derived from the Earling, Iowa possession & exorcism of Emma Schmidt (aka Anna Ecklund) in 1928 (and many years beyond), the Maryland/St Louis possession and exorcism of Ronald Hunkeler in 1949, and the circa late 1950s-early 1960s possession and exorcism of an unidentified woman in rural Italy that formed the basis of the 1963 Italian film "Il Demonio" which features the original "spider walk" echoed ten years later in The Exorcist.
