Great video - very helpful to show the thinking and process. This leak was totally foreseeable -- and preventable -- during the construction phase. God forbid we have some kind of secondary drain to catch this kind of inevitable leak. And/or a drain mat system to protect our ceilings also. Home builders usually cheap out and this is what we get right here... an over-reliance on caulking. And if builders are not aware of improved methods, then they need to get educated.
One thing I'm beginning to learn from you Dustin, is to not be afraid of using drastic measures to fix something as everything is fixable. Even the drastic measure.;0) Knowledge is power, so thanks for this video.
I have the same problem from the kitchen ceiling, except when I look through the opening I made in the ceiling I see the wood wet where the tub is upstairs. Is this a job that the plumber can fix, since it’s not the pipes? The plumber can reseal around the bottom of the tub?
Hi. Nice video. It helped me understanding the tub. But I need a little bit of more help. I'm trying to find where is the leaking from... my leaking is starting when someone is on shower. But it doesn't leak when I turn on the water. Do you know why? and what is the prb? Thanks.
Thank you Jamie. If it’s leaking during a shower but not during the tub running that means it’s somewhere from the diverter to the showerhead if it’s inside the wall, otherwise it would be coming in through a crack that probably should be caulked, possibly around the handles or leaking into the floor and through that way. That’s a tough one but trying to reenact a shower doesn’t always work without actually reenacting it. I hope this helps
I have this problem but it’s on top of the kitchen cabinets. Am I going to have to remove all the cabinets and do new ones ? I don’t think I’d be able to salvage
I am having a very weird issue. If i run the shower without anyone actually taking shower, there is no leak. If someone takes shower inside the tub there is a leak and i see water leaking from the AC vent. I have no idea if this is a plumbing issue or some kind of water seeping issue from the tiles or bad caulking.
Lol that is very common… Sometimes we actually have to get in the shower to re-create it… A couple things, it could be only leaking when you turn on the shower, it could be a leak in the around the drain because fiberglass tubs flex, or it could be bouncing off the person and running down the wall. I would try making sure all your caulking is tight first
Not sure if you received answer yet but I'm a insurance Adjuster and it can be covered for the damage but not the plumbing costs . But simple sheet rock repair is usually cheaper than most deductibles amount. Need to run a dehumidifier for the moisture as well
Man that musical tune in the start of your videos is just awesome! Also did you have to caulk the overflow since they sell gaskets that sit behind the faceplate?
Not so Shure you fix it! Ask if they are taking baths! Filling the tub and draining it can cause the strainer to leak . It comes from the high volume of water draining out all at once. If you fixed it great but that's the first thing I ask.
That caulk job though :) :)...my wife would make you cut it back out and do about 100x better neater job ...they sell undetectable clear bathroom caulk water resistant anti mold caulk guaranteed 20 yrs under $ 10..

The idea would be to remove the cabinets repair the wall and if they’re able reinstall them but it’s not likely :-( sorry
You totally rocked that leak, Dustin. Surely that fixed it, right? Keep us posted.
Hey hammer yes sir that was the only thing that was causing a drip, a week later and still no leak. Thanks for commenting!
Thanks, I was going crazy trying to recreate that damn leak!!

What did you used
Thanks for watching J
What was leaking???
Great question. It ended up stopping after caulking around the shower handles. I don’t like to do it, but this one was required.
Does insurance cover these ceiling leaks?
Hey lawdog you definitely want to check with your insurance buddy. You got this
@@homemend k. Tks

I know van..love that riff..so hardcore...and technically no, it had a gasket on it that looked in tact...wanted over kill.lol good catch!
Super helpful. Thanks
Glad it was helpful!
how to fix the ceiling then?
That would be another video, my friend, but check it out. There is one for you.
Wow that sure got a good sealing....clear sealant?
Yes the white looked a little funky but dries clear. It looked pretty tight to begin with but it was causing a leak so this time it was over done :-)
Thank you 👍
You are welcome

Hey Tim yes sir, this is the only thing that made it leak. Now a week later and they are still dry. time to fix that ceiling. Thanks for commenting.
I have this issue but haven't investigated yet. I definitely take a decent amount of baths though. I'm hoping the source of my leak will be obvious.
Thank you for the information
Thank you Locky!
Yeah my living roof is leaking now after a shower. Guess I’m calling plumber
