Had 4 watermarks that were all parallel from each other on my garage ceiling, with water dripping out from a few spots in each (but more heavily on one side). The plumber cut open part of the ceiling to see the main waste water line, but I couldn't for the life of me understand why he never once checked the tub, vanity or toilet that is directly above it. Needless to say, he couldn't find the source of the leak yet, so now my entire ceiling is going to get removed so they can trace the source of the leak better. Thank you so much for validating that I'm not crazy in thinking these "professionals" weren't troubleshooting the issue correctly.
@ahmedkhan I too just discovered 4 parallel watermarks on my garage ceiling but no water dripping. We called a plumbing company and to our surprise they found absolutely no leaks after cutting 3 holes in the ceiling. Did you ever find what was leaking?
Very through. I Wonder if all that my tub needs is that one tool to tighten it. I won't attermpt it, but maybe plumber doesn't have to charge too much to fix. Thanks.
Thank you for this.My ceiling is leaking and I'm glad I found your video before letting someone cut through my ceiling.I will let the repair man know that I might just need the drain hole tightened.I will have have the repair man try that first. Also I'm glad you let us see what it looks like under a tub.At first I thought that if there was a leak in the ceiling that pieces of it might start falling.I didn't think about that space in between.
If you want to be code-compliant, use wood cleats and screw the drywall into that without drywall compound and then Velcro the access door onto that. (You’ll have to cut the back of the access panel flush) that way if you need access all you have to do is unscrew the drywall off. You’re welcome!
In my neck of the woods the garage walls and ceiling that are habitable the code requires 2 layers of 5/8" drywall, total 1 1/4" thick. Northern Delaware.
Wow! That’s wonderful. I am not a handyman; having similar issues; ceiling drywall is wet covering 10 x 6 inches. I shut down water supply. Planning to call a plumber.
@@KenTraining, Hi Ken, due to freezing; all plumbers are busy; I shut cold and hot water supply. Also stopped using the tub. Leak stopped. The question would be: Is it leak at the joint or just the drainage? Access point is very crucial to investigate the issue in the future as well. I just don’t understand why builders did not think about it? I liked your idea a lot and it serves the purpose. I will definitely let you know the outcome once plumber investigates. Thanks for helping me and others to think beyond and logical. Love your video.
@@hotrod4x5 , It was an old seal that gave way for the water to seep through especially when I stored water in the tub for more than 5 days! After replacing the seal, everything looks ok. Thanks for your follow up. :)
Would the drip from tub be consistent while someone’s In bath? Have young son who takes baths and noticed this drip in garage. He has tendency to splash water out too despite our efforts he’s autistic and can beat to his own drum sometimes. Anything can be done temporarily until I can tackle this project? Thanks
I need my meter, left it at my kid's condo. Have a stain on kitchen ceiling downstairs now. I suspect it is the shower room drain stairs as I can hear water dropping when close my eyes to the stain ceiling but will need a plumber to confirm tomorrow and fix.
So , what if you take a piece of 5/8 barely over size, place it in the spot, then push it up just enough to put in your access panel. That way you have 5/8 meeting the code and access to your plumbing.
you have a roof leak most likely. It could be a window or flashing leak. In any case you have a rain water related leak that you will need to track down to fix.
@@KenTraining So, if the gasket is defective, that would be the cause of the tub leaking water through your garage ceiling? I currently have that problem and am trying to solve it myself instead of spending $500 on a plumber. Drywall is cut out joist to joust underneath so that there is now direct access underneath the tub. An access panel will be installed when the drywall is replaced. Thank you!
i have a leak in my garage also, didnt notice until now. there is mold already. IDK know where its coming from as its not under the bathroom, its under where my living room is. So im confused. HELP! I dont know what to do.
@@vickiesaylor93 it has to be a tub to have an overflow. the overflow will be the higher drain on the side. you would have had to fill up to cause that. I assume that is not the case. you have may just have a shower drain leak in your system...
Thank you! I'm dreading this repair, but I have no choice. Here we go!

Wow, very thick drywall.
That was a great find and great solution.

Ken Great vedio.
Exactly what I was looking for.

Single story home no bathroom above and there is a crack in the ceiling in garage with a leak with a rain today. Where can it be coming from?

how would you change the gasket if you not could fix it
go to th-cam.com/video/a4IqQR-lAjY/w-d-xo.html at 3:48 minutes and you will see exactly how to do that.

I would open the drywall up and look to find the water source, just like I did in the video.
How did I get here?
I'm guessing the Stork
Mine is more complicated it came raining down from upstairs way after I had taken my shower maybe overdrainage
you can test that by putting water down overflow ture and see if comes raining down again. I assume this only happens when you use that shower?
@@KenTraining But I'm not sure where the overflow is

What if the leak in the garage was coming from the shower??
then i would have fixed the shower.
Helpful, but keep much shorter
I will work on keeping short for future videos. Thanks
@@KenTraining IMHO, this video length was perfect, everyone has their own preference.
