If that's an older motor, ie 2014 as in your video, then I'd suggest removing the steering cable from the engine end tilt tube, clean out the old grease thoroughly from the tilt tube and the steering cable solid extension. Apply some new grease inside and reassemble. Pump the tilt tube full of new grease. Also grease the cowling latches and tilt lock mechanism etc.. Thanks for the video, well presented and pleasant to watch.
I agree with you on that, what we have found in our area is the cable itself seizes up before the solid extension in the tilt tube, except for rare instances like the boat not being used for a couple seasons. We ensure it all looks good and clean. We actually do lube up the latches and such as well. It's hard to cover all the tiny details and still create a video that is watchable. Thanks for your feedback.
Great video. As soon as I saw you check the shift linkage lock nut I went to my poorly shifting Yamaha and sure enough the ham nut had backed off 3 or four threads.
For steering and tilt I use: canadawidemarine.com/products/710-92-802863q-1 For Propshaft and driveshaft I use: canadawidemarine.com/products/quicksilver-extreme-grease-14-oz Or you can use the Lucas Marine grease for all the above applications: canadawidemarine.com/products/lucas-oil-20320-marine-grease-14-oz-39-gram-cartridge
Thank you very much. I was looking in the yamaha manual of my 85hp, and they are talking about 2 kind of grease : yamaha grease A and yamaha grease D but i didn’t find where i can buy it on the net.
I thought I showed the grease squeezing out the top of the steering tube? In case I didn't, pump the grease in until you see grease squeezing out. I usually pump until I see clean grease coming out, so I flush out any dirt and rust.
Great job thanks for the information. You are an asset to the boating community
Thanks for the detailed walk through on "grease" points -- I've been able to get by motor maintenance finished with your help!

Thank you! I knew I had greased the steering before, but I couldn't remember where the grease fitting was.
Thanks for posting this. Helped me out.
How do you grease a stiff throttle on a tiller Yamaha?
The hydraulic steering on my Yamaha 2005 makes it almost impossible to fit the greaseguns nozzle in to grease the tilt.
What type of grease would you use to lubricate the metal bar the motor slides left and right on. In my yamaha 115 2004 year, its actually a metal arm.
