I'm a RN. When you take the cap off a needle, twist it to break it loose. Then it will come off easily and you won't jab yourself. You have a great channel. Thanks.
I just ordered this needle fitting for my grease gun. The ball joints on the front end of my car are squeaking away. The uppers have the zerk fittings from the factory. I pumped those up hoping that would get rid of the squeaking. No such luck. I’ll try to post again after I use the tool . But, the video cleared up a question I had. Thanks so much for making the video 👍
For those with squeaky joints...they are already worn out. This may temporarily quiet the issue but you'll still have sub par steering control from worn parts and joint replacement is inevitable.
That bigger one isn't intended to be used by sticking it into the boot. That one is used to go directly into a zerk fitting or other types of fittings that come on newer ball joints. For instance, I have upper ball joints that have a place to poke that right down the center of it and fill it with grease - done. Great tool, but not for stabbing the boots... too big of a hole. Great vid. Glad you didn't poke yourself. :)
The bigger needle is for different fitting. There are fittings for it don't use for puncturing please. I would use the smaller needle if you know you will replace it but most needle fittings will be called out in the manuals.

Be careful though. I had an older Tundra that was squeaky in turns and did this....yes it fixed the noise, but the ball joint failed. Driving about 50 mph the lower ball joint broke. So, if it is real bad now, just replace it with new joints that have a zerk fitting. I think this is good for vehicles that aren't to far gone like mine was. Cheers!

I just had my oil changed on my chevy express. The work order said fittings were sealed. After watching this, I feel like I got screwed. I'll mention this to them next time and see what's they say. Thanks for the info!
Well actually they did not tell you anything wrong. It is a seal unit. My video is basically showing a way that you can grease a sealed unit. Thank you for watching!
In the UK, on an annual MoT inspection, they can fail the safety inspection for a ball joint leaking grease, so beware as replacing wishbones is not cheap.
I have a couple of these things, and I have never actually used them. I have all of the brand new parts to replace the entire front end of my F350, but due to an endless procession of unexpected circumstances, my truck can't be sidelined for a while. Your video has me looking for grease needles right now, as the 16 year old joints aren't getting better. I'm getting it done today. Thanks for sharing. AND FOR GOD'SSAKE, BE CAREFUL ! 😅 I thought you were going to get a poke there. We all do it.
Hi Dairle - are you using the needle to pierce the boots in order to grease? If yes, does that cause any leakage issues in the long-term? I’ve never greased anything before on my truck, looking to learn! Thanks so much in advance!
@MidwestF150 Good question, If your Vehicle has grease fittings. You want to make sure that you use them only. Some Vehicles without grease fittings may have some type of plug/screw that you can remove and place in a grease fitting. This video basically points out if you do not have those two options. Then you can go this route. I myself may have gotten a little heavy on the grease. But you get the idea 😀. You can put some silicone over the needle hole once you finish.
@mastrsk8 You asked a good question. It's a matter of opinion. Some will agree and some may disagree depending on the location. With the larger needle. You may be able to go underneath or on top without punching any holes. With the smaller needle on top maybe best. And maybe try not to pack it to tight. I got a little heavy handed 😀
@ Thank you. That makes sense. Seems like the smaller idea is the way to go for me as well. Seems like a little hole is better than a large one (all jokes aside).
In your case. You may want to use the small needle and do not pack the boot full of grease. More like half way. If you have used silicone. I would injet in another area. I myself have not used silicone.
Sure it could, if the rubber has lost its flexibility and hard as a rock. I use A-205 to help keep the rubber soft and pliable. But a hole that tiny doesn't really suffer the amount of stress like a rip or tear. In fact, it's not even a hole until it's under stress, so I don't think I'd lose any sleep over it. Peace
How long does it take for the grease to leak out the hole you made? And don't tell me it won't leak out! And how do you tell how much damage was done to the ball before you pushed in new grease?
You do not have to pack it full of grease. Just enough to have some inside the boot. Ball Joints show several signs of wear. If you noticed a potting sound when turning left or right. Or frontend may Squeak. You can lift up the frontend and shake each wheel . If you have excess movement. That's a sign of worn ball joints .
Foolish to think it's impossible for grease to escape through a "hole", but the rubber contracts so fast around that tiny little hole it wouldn't be enough to make a difference if it did.
It has no issues noises or anything. Drives nice no wandering no tire wear. I might try spraying white lithium grease inside not sure if it would get to the socket or not in time. @@dairleautoclassicrestorati6892
Clean the rubber, inject it and wait for the grease to stop pushing back out, clean agian, put a dab of liquid rubber on the hole, let dry, spray all rubber with AT 205. If in Canada spray crown rust proof all over the slut.

This might be easier than using the grease zirks to begin with. Cool.
but surly the grease would come out unless you seal the hole once you put grease in to it
Because of how tiny the whole is it seals up it's like a needle from a doctor you don't start bleeding a ton it seals up
I was thinking the same thing but r u better off having no grease at all.
@@ethanchosdad-xh9ih true.
This must be not the first time judging by the grease leaving through holes. The sharper the needle probably less leakage.
Not so much the sharpness, but the diameter or thickness of the needle.
Man thanks didn't know that was a thing

I am sorry to hear that. Look on my Channel and search the Video on Fix A Flat Tire.
There was a zerk on top of that tie rod.
Should the needle holes somehow be plugged or wouldn't the grease eventually leak out from these needle holes?

@@Scottadamsfan3481 Some items are a seal unit like the driveshaft. Tie Rod and Ball Joints are mainly the items to grease.
