    Shoutout to everyone chasing the dream. Since last year I've cleaned up my act, living more frugally and am halfway towards the deposit I need to buy my first house. I know some people have billions and can invest in amazing watches but for me to stop renting is a huge deal and I'm very proud of myself because I know I can get there. Watching these videos helps keep me motivated too! So thanks and good luck to everyone, aim high!

      Exactly! My grandfather bought a Rolex Submariner REF# 1680 in 1970. He Never took it off until 1984 and gave it to my dad when he graduated. My dad never took it off as well until he passed it along to me which was when I graduated in 2014. I haven’t taken it off, except for servicing. Now it’ll be passed to my son when he graduates! Keeping the family tradition going! Love my watch, not just because it’s a Rolex, but because of who wore it.

    Don't let this fool you, watches are almost never a good means of investment outside of a small handful of models that increased in value because of marketing.
    Consider that if you buy a watch as an investment, you can't use it, meaning you can't enjoy it. Plus, watches require servicing and care. It's easy for Michael and the store owners to hold them, but they're highly educated on the subject and enjoy/do it professionally.
    Plus, Michael is friends with store owners that will sell it to him for a fair price. In reality, you will be very hard pressed to find non-shady dealers who will sell you without a high premium.

    • @pauldavis5665
      @pauldavis5665 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well, yes and no, in those 20 years you had the opportunity to wear and enjoy the watch, and then still sell it for the same amount of money you bought it for. Objectively, due to inflation the watch technically did lose in value, but subjectively you won’t feel this as you got to wear it, and still sold it for the same amount of money.

    First watch was $3,500 20 years ago. Considering inflation, in 1999 $3,500 would be equal to $5,364.95 in 2019. Not considering inflation, the value only went up about 3.15% a year for the past 20 years. Considering inflation, its only a 0.97% increase in value annually. Frankly, that is a god awful investment. The historical return rate of the S&P 500 has been 12% over the past 30 years, so you're wayyy better off putting that money into mutual fund(s). $3,500 put in the stock market today, at a 12% rate of return, will turn into $33,762 in 20 years. Hell even if the stock market did "poorly" over 20 years and only did half that return value at 6% (double the rate of return that the watch had, not counting inflation), that'd still turn into $11,224. Another concern I have, is investing in watches assumes old watches will still be valuable and desirable in 20 years. There are multiple generations growing up right now and in the future that are used to checking the time on strictly on cellphones and smart watches, who knows if this market will still be around and profitable in the long term?
    Michael is clearly very financially successful himself, but the average person is not going to retire or get rich collecting watches and diamonds like he frequently suggests. Research investing in the stock market (mainly mutual funds) and real estate if you are actually looking for ways to make your money work for you.

      Same comment to you - why index against s&p 500? Looking at the beta on the secondary price market, it's closer to a zero-coupon TIPS

    Go for a Grand Seiko if you’re looking for a good investment watch! GS watches are top notch quality and better than most Swiss luxury watches.

      Wrong buddy, buy something you like and at the same time is an investment. It is really nice if in 10 years shit went down and you could sell your watch for a little more than you paid for it. There are beautiful watches in all prices.
