The Bardstown Origins Rye is phenomenal. A great inclusion on the list that’s also reasonably priced and available.
Love to see the shout-out for that one. The rye was also my favorite, but everyone else I've seen seems to prefer the wheated bourbon, perhaps predictably.
I haven’t tried most of these, but of the very few bottled of Rye I keep on the shelf, Bardstown Origin is my favorite. But then the $23 Sazarac Rye is my second favorite, so take that for whatever it means.
Went to Scotland recently to tour some distilleries. Thought that “fill your own bottle” was a nostalgic gimmick. The 2 bottles that I filled and brought back are absolute bangers!! Could be the best tasting whiskey in my large collection. And this was confirmed by guys who were not influenced by the trip. It depends on the place and the barrel, but those hand filled bottles can be absolutely amazing.
I remember that fire at heaven hill. We lived in bardstown when it happened. We have home video of it somewhere. It was wild. You could hear barrels exploding and the sky glowed a crazy orange all night long.
As far as rare bottles, I think I only have one really rare one. It’s a bottle of makers mark gold label 101 proof from back in the 80s or 90s maybe is when they made it.
Got to try the Anderson 10 year, among other vintage offerings, in Louisville. Whole heartedly endorse the vintage pour category. Won’t be around forever!
Y’all are wonderful. Thank you for all your content, unique and informative recommendations, and laid back style.
@@derekmeier2803 Of course! Thank you for the nice comment!
I'm way more of a Scotch guy than a Bourbon guy, so what first comes to mind for me is pretty much anything from Springbank beyond the standard 10 year. One batch of their 15 year is still the best whisky I've ever had, but their Longrow and Kilkerrans are also outstanding. I haven't tried as much bourbon, but I've had a mind-blowing Russel's Single Barrel, and I really like Maker's Mark 46 cask strength. Like your first example here, I'd say the bottom shelf Wild Turkey 101 is something everyone should try. Incredibly good for the price!
Springbank is phenomenal. They do scotch right and there’s nothing quite like it. Cheers!
Ain’t no way Silverback Distillery is on here but BTAC isn’t 😂😂😂
Love these types of videos - I was actually kinda binging these same lists from several channels that came out a while back, so it’s cool to see an update. Out of curiosity, would you consider this list kind of an addition or more of a replacement to your previous one? Ie, would you still put things like pappy and rare breed on the list of ‘must tries’ or have those fallen off? Cheers!
@@Abs0lut3_Z3r0 Great question. Over all, I think it’s more of an addition, but not completely. We still love Rare Breed and think it’s worth seeking out a good price for a pour of Pappy to experience it and to have an opinion on it.
My experience with Silverback Distillery was there Blackback Honey Rye which was damn good (I know flavored whiskey) but I think you should try it. Its whiskey infused with Real Honey Liqueur from a distillery you already seem to like.
Great selection to try if you get a chance. I’ve tried a more Buffalo Trace products over the years. Still a good list to make.
That was a fun list. Your suggestion of the Bardstown Origin Rye sounded like right in my wheelhouse so I ordered a couple. Thanks!. I would like to try some of those upper shelf Heaven Hill offerings. I bought an old dusty of Heaven Hill (green label) from a friend. Dang it was tasty. It was probably 20+ years old. Cheers!
Great segment! Thanks for the plug on TW Samuels - my great uncle made that many years ago in Deatsville when he owned the distillery!
We should always be updating our opinions. Great list and concept for a video. Cheers 🥃
Great selections and number 1
I would say a Texas bourbon. The difference in spirit and the evolution from a young area is very nice.
Silverback is 3 hours away and I didn't know about them... going to visit them very soon!
at 4:20 😊 the weller 107 bottle ... best whiskey ever ... i used to get this all the time ... less than $30
Thanks for the video
So I tried some jd sbbp at 139.6 proof and I honestly love it so much I'm just torn on it because these lower proof bottles below 100 aren't as good anymore. I've only started sipping whiskey mainly bourbon and rye about a year now but I'm just on a high proof kick and nothing tastes good anymore. So a high JD SBBP bottle is a absolute must try for me!
JD SBBP is one of my favorite whiskies.
I can’t believe it took Jack that long to release them. Liquid banana candy 🤤.
To produce whiskey that good at that scale is phenomenal.
OGD 114 ND, old crow chessman, M20, old SW PVW, old MGP (SAOS/BC), KOK, bookers rye
Nice list! I think the Jim Beam Hardin’s Creek series is a phenomenal pour! Another try before you die for me would be Booker’s Rye! Cheers!
Haven't opened my Dant. Love my JTSB.
A list for me would include higher age products like the Hardins Creek line from Jim Beam
Didn't know that about a white dog, thanks for the fun fact 👍
@@UnbrokenFlame Of course!
Sagamore 8 year rye and the port finish rye are worthy of consideration. Two of the best Rye's I have ever had.
Also, how do you not have WLW or GTS on this list?!?!
Momento Mori list…I just got excited when I saw myself rubbing glorious Bardstown new make into my hands in the video 😁
Well thought out, original type list.
My dad a had a that duck motif decanter 10yr Jim Beam half full that had he’d had for ass long as I could remember mostly for the decanter. One night in my 20s long before I was into bourbon my friends and I killed it because we were out of booze. Still have the decanter. Now that im into bourbon I wish I still had some of the juice.
Well thought-out
Thank ya much.
Sure would love to get a handshake of that 15year Russell’s Reserve
I tried my highest end bourbon so far, Bardstown Bourbon Discovery Series No 10. Where should I go from here? Looking for stuff $100-$200, special occasion type pours. Thanks!
Hard to find stuff at the NC ABC stores
Wild Turkey does everything the best.
I just cracked balcones straight bourbon. Love or hate. It is bold. I love it. Pot still, viscous, rich, earthy leather, Carmel, tang, confectionery. Very complex and a bargain, $32. It's said to discontinued at some point.
Yah, Balcones Distilling has confirmed to me that they've already quit distilling it. 😢 At that time, three or four months ago, they said they had two years supply left. That bourbon is fantastic and affordable - I can't feature why they won't do it anymore.
@@WhiskyForBeginners Thanks, i'll snap a few more of the straight, it's up my alley. Do you like their stuff. Should i try the rye. Or lineage version.
@@scoobtoober2975 I haven't tried everything they put out - a lot of it's not here, and much of what they produce is above my budget. But the Lineage Texas Single Malt is good. I swear by the Baby Blue corn whisky, and the one bottle of True Blue I've had (a Total Wine store pick) was superb. But the Brimstone has way too much smoke, and I couldn't drink the 100 proof rye.
@@WhiskyForBeginners thanks for the tasting notes. I'll try the lineage too.
Any thing 4 rose’s especially Le’s
The HH LE's never get to IL. I need to just rent a U Haul and drive to KY.
14:48 That White Dog is the only available, affordable thing from Buffalo Trace that I like enough to keep on buying. I can't remember the brand, but there's a New Mexico distillery which sells white dog. I've not had it, though - my experience with New Mexico distilleries has been mediocre at best, and has even been horrible.
Eintracht Frankfurt is next time in Louisville
Don‘t miss
I get the origin series when I see them. Best bang for the buck in whiskey as far as I’m concerned. And honestly I haven’t had a bad Bardstown yet. Of course some of these are something I’ll never try because of cost. With my cap some of these are just over what I’m willing to pay for a bottle and in some cases a pour. Yes I have a cap on bar drinks. Just my policy it’s alcohol and you should have limits on what you spend for it. Again my policy. I’m sure others think differently and that’s fine.
By the way, i love you folks! You two and Jason C. Are the best on TH-cam!!
I've been a JW Dant fanboy since I found it. I get it for $15 in Tulsa Ok. I'm a Bardstown Origins BIB lover. I'm going to get the rye
Silverback is fire
God I wish that Russell’s 10 was still 101 proof. Great list guys!
The problem with your suggestions is that most of stuff or everything is not available internationally. We only see basic lines of bourbon like Wild Turkey 101, Jim Beam, Bulleit etc.
There are some very aspirational bottles here, for sure. For a list of bottles that may be easier to find in an international market, check out our first edition of this list that we did 5 years ago: th-cam.com/video/VofX7ydBe2k/w-d-xo.html
Also, you may run into some of these by the pour at a bar. When we were in Ireland, we found lots of great KY Bourbons by the pour at this one bar that's hard (or super expensive) to find over here. Best of luck!
You guys rock!
@@harleyschmydlapp704 thank you!!
Bardstown origins black label bourbon is very good.
Wow no bookers rye?
Michters 20 and 25 for sure
WHISKEY CHEERS 😎
George T. Stagg and William Larue Weller are on the top of my list. Each bottle belongs on the list.
@@pbelone23 Yes, agreed. WLW was on our first list but GTS belongs there, too!
Been pouring juice for over 50yrs and I can tell you that the old bourbon from 70's-80's were THE BEST 👌 👍 🥃😉 CHEERS
Have you ever tried Mister Sam tribute whisky?
Have not, but would love to.
Lol I watched the whole video hoping that there’d be GTS. No way heaven hill 18 is as quintessential an American whiskey as GTS. KoK is practically HH’s GTS; since it uses Beam’s Early Times. Parkers Heritages last year were really good but like the HH18, they’re too expensive IMO.
All of the unopened ones I already have. Would be a waste otherwise.
What if there was a rule that said that you had to have product from multiple countries on your list? If you could only pick ONE non-American whisk(e)y to put on the list what would it be?
Do you guys ever thought about Mister Sam? Is that a contender or no?
Shout out to Whiskey Thief who was thieving before Pursuit.
If you wanna send me samples so I can try before I die I wouldn't say no
192👍
George T Stagg
I literally had a pour 5 hours ago. It's great, but good god, the hype is _not_ warranted. $125/bottle? Hell yeah. $125/oz? GTFO of here. Lol. (Thankfully this local spot has it for $30/oz)
Life to short to drink cheap stuff
Variety is the spice of life, and if know which of the "cheap stuff" is best to drink, it's just more great variety!
Some weirdness on this list 😕
It's like this list is designed to age poorly
Bespoke post...BOO!!!
Terrible sponsorship. Very disappointed seeing this on your channel.
Silverback is trash.
@@joshknicely8505 Have you had either of the bottles we were talking about from them?
Wish we could find the first 2 in michigan 🫣
Go to “city wide liquors” in downtown southbend, they will have both 👍
