I find Brad’s self consciousness of his insecurities around his early 30’s very inspiring. Being able to acknowledge that at any point in life is an incredibly powerful thing. Great, truthful and insightful interview. Now sell me some goddam S-works 8s shoes please Sigma, cheers thanks x
best one yet, nice work Matt. I was fat and out of shape and just turned 40 when Brad won le tour. The way he was riding in the first few stages of that tdf inspired me to take up road cycling and get fit. Changed my life in a lot of ways. I cycled london to brussels the following year as a result of that inspiration getting me out on the bike. Still doing it today 10 years later. All thanks to Brad 👍
Whoever came up with the idea for The Cafe Ride, you are a genius. This was absolutely brilliant. Meaningful, nostalgic, entertaining and funny all in one. This series needs to be nominated for awards!
Actually no, that'd be Beryl Burton 7 times world champion, 90 domestic titles and every single time trial record up to 12 hours. Wiggins is one of the greats, arguably the greatest male British cyclist but the greatest British cyclist is a woman from Yorkshire
@@brianmcg321 not really, it was a piss take obviously but Wiggins is the most decorated male British cyclist, just not th most decorated British cyclist.
I once messaged Matt directly to thank him for making a video I loved, and he messaged me back! It was such a nice gesture and it made me love him all the more. Cycling can be an intimidating hobby to get into, with so much snobbery and douchebaggery, but here's a British national champion having a laugh at his own expense and being so relatable and approachable. He's the patron saint of the everyday joe giving it a go.
Thanks for your story! Matt is a fantastic personality and is always incredibly encouraging and approachable to everyone in cycling. We are lucky to be able to work with him.
I remember that day vividly, I was at work watching it on the TV with my then new to cycling boss, Watching each rider cross the line and catching a glimpse of my dear old Dad on the finishing line (he was the chief judge) was a personal moment of pride, seeing him briefly talking to Bradley in this video as he was looking for his family makes me smile.. another great Cafe ride, just wish Dad was still here to see it. I have a great picture of him sitting in Bradley’s throne outside Hampton court.
Absolutely brilliant video. Being honest I was never a fan of Brad until the last few years seeing and listening to him on Eurosport at the grand tours. This video showed he is a down to earth guy with same issues and passion as all us cyclists who just love the sport. Matt is very good at these videos the way he reacts and speaks to these riders is just so good and that laugh is hilarious. Chapeu to all involved in making these videos👍👍
The best one yet. Anything with Brad in gives me goosebumps. Honestly the guy is a legend and just seeing him on a bike is exciting. He would still drop almost any club rider out there 💪🏻
Remember it very well. My dad lived down the road at Thames Ditton so we could walk to the course in the morning. The noise was incredible. You could hear and feel Brad coming down the road.
I genuinely think Matt Stephens is one of the most underrated interviewers of our time. It's a skill that's very hard to teach without it becoming mechanical. He blends his own knowledge, personality, and humility with a genuine curiosity to hear people's stories.
This video brought a tear to my eye. The combination of nostalgia, and upmost respect for a British cyclist who was a real maverick and who didn’t give a s&@t. Brad has always been a major inspiration for me and others. His achievements are massive and it was amazing to relive some of those with Matt. One of the best bits of TV/video I’ve seen all year. Thanks for doing this Matt and for the Cafe ride series. Well done lads.
Now that was a real classic ride and chat, a top cyclist, just chatting and being normal, and so funny and open, also well done Matt, youre in a very trusted position with these people, they really open up to you.Gold medal incoming.
Another absolute classic Matt! We just need the TV series now. You and Brad doing a cycling version of Mortimer and Whithouse’s Gone Fishing! It would be fabulous!
Best thing I’ve watched on TH-cam. What chemistry between two legends talking about a day that will live on in my memory. Please make a full length documentary of this epic. Thank you so much.
Have to say, being from Kingston and being about 12/13 when Bradley came tearing came through my hometown, it was electric. Honestly one of the coolest atmospheres I have ever experienced and inspired me to start riding more. Brad is a true champion and that day was awesome.
We can all learn from the truths that Brad has shared with us. I must admit that I was a fan of Brad back in the day but I was disappointed by his behavior later on. Now I get it. He’s a wonderful man.
It's hard to pick the best one out of this mini series, it's even harder to understand how they don't have 1000s more views! All episodes are amazing, Matt is awesome being the host 👏
Every now and again you see something that makes you realise why you ride. The laughs, the stories and the sheer joy of good company with a like minded passion. I absoloutly loved this and was in tears of laughter at the end. Absolute legends!
Could listen to these two talk all day. Brad is an absolute legend, and his self-reflection about his past is humbling and inspiring. He’s the reason I, and thousands others, ride bikes today.
I always knew that Matt Stephens was a funny guy, but I have to admit that Brad had me rolling on the floor laughing. I think that I found it even funnier because I did not expect that. Thanks so very much for making this truly awesome video series!
"I don't want to be up there with that lot" deserves a thumbs up. Great time admiring where Brad has come and where he is now. Lots of fun on and off the bike. Chapeau to both He and Matt.
What a great video about a bloke from Kilburn (near me).. He's a supremely talented athlete. A complete maverick!...humble, cool and honest. . Love him
I love The Cafe Ride series! It’s a really great production with some really great people. As I sit home recovering from injury I’m digging through to find all the episodes. I can’t wait for more. Great job, Matt.
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this one Matt and what a great trip down memory lane this must have been for Brad and for everyone who watched the race, like myself, 10 years previously. It was this generation of British cyclists that changed the whole perspective of cycling on the world stage where we once would have only dreamed of stuff like this actually happening.
From the other side of the world, thank you for the tears of laughter! Bradleys impression of Hincapie and the poo story really made my day!...I've been a Bradley Wiggins fan for years and Matt with Sigma really make the most entertaining cycling series on TH-cam 👍
Superb video, loved it. Met both these guys, top gents. Wiggo seems very insecure, self conscious and quite humble in person, total opposite to how people perceive him in the media. A real inspiration to me and got me on my bike transforming my life really.
Great show. Matt, always great to see you. You bring out the best of whomever you interview. This made me appreciate Sir Bradley even more. Thank you both 💕
Matt, thank you and Sigma for these Cafe Rides! This interview and the one you did with Cav are my favorites! You have a very warm and engaging interview style that is truly a pleasure to watch.
So many things to like about this. Great chemistry; really good editing of 2012 imagery; fantastic Sean yates impression; amazing recollection of details; humility; self reflection; soldier story; poo chat and of course use of rim brakes.
What a wonderful watch. All the gentle fun and repartee we expect from Matt. I lived in Hillingdon in the 90s and was a regular at the original Sigma. Used to race and ride on those roads including the Hampton Pool tris, didn't get the same consideration from drivers then as the boys did now. I moved to Vancouver, BC in 2009 and so missed the 2012 Olympics but lived vicariously through the stories Matt and Brad shared. Cheers Guys.
What an amazing video, thank you Sigma Sports and Matt Stephens. Brads legacy? He inspired me to get on a bike at 50 years of age and I've been riding regularly ever since, thanks Sir Brad. I'll never be a racer but I really enjoy doing sportives. Was worried at one point that Brad had lost his way but great to see that he's back with what he knows best, cycling, and is around to give his expert insight, comments and advice on cycle races on tv. Hope the 10th anniversary goes well Brad, you deserve it. Chapeau.

A legend. Got to Annonay in 2012 when David Miller won the stage on Tommy Simpson day..... Hung about waiting for Brad after interviews and drug tests. He took the time to have a photo taken with my Winnie the Pooh teddy with a freshly knitted yellow jersey when we tapped on the window... He had already jumped into the team Jag after launching his baseball cap in to the crowd to escape the hoards (Saw a young Peter Sagan who nobody was crowding round at that point) Thanks for taking the time to do that Brad. We made sure we were there in London to cheer you on. I've never known sound like it. (Created by the human voice) as he went past.
Fabulous interview with Sir Bradley and listening to him explain how his insecurities dealing with success and fame off the bike made him act in eccentric ways.
