- Former Team Pursuit World Champion Ethan Hayter takes Matt Stephens on a Cafe Ride to the place where it all began for him; Herne Hill Velodrome.
The team Ineos Grenadiers rider meets Matt at his family home in South London on one of the wettest days of the year. Given the weather warning, it was a wise decision to cut the route short and head straight to the cafe. The pair enjoy chatting about Ethan's early career successes, what he has learnt from recent criticisms, and how he's enjoying living with fellow pros Fred Wright and Rhys Britton.
Later, they reflect on the memorabilia adorning the velodrome's club room, including Ethan's rainbow-striped jersey, before the fast-man lets rip to teach Matt a lesson in sprinting.

Matt was born for stuff like this - love these videos. I live round there and cycle those roads so it was interesting to see the pre-cafe route didn't stitch together, either that or they went up and down Crystal Palace hill a few times before going to the Cafe 🙂. I will keep an eye out for Ethan now - didn't know I had an Ineos rider on my ride!
Matt is a gem. We had some weather-induced detours for this one unfortunately, it was that or getting the pair of them into a pair of trunks with snorkels! But yes, a slightly more cafe than ride focused episode!

Just love how you don't take yourself seriously and getting caught passed then by the Deliveroo cyclist, just gold, you could have given him his moment of glory (tight ass). He's on the money with the Malted Wheat much better than Shreddeies. Also, your cutting-edge question, like what furniture do you have in your flat and Lego. Who the hell want to know what his gearing of choice is or is he Campag or Shimano or even Sram. My side are hurting from all your incorrect true facts about Christal Palace. Just Class!

oh, the joys of riding in Sarf East Lahnden - can't believe I've never ridden on the Herne Hill track, even though I lived around the corner - might have been because every time I left my bike anywhere it got nicked. Looked like they were doing laps around the park's perimeter

Matts laugh is infectious and great to see he hasn't lost his skills of clipping in. Knowing Crystal Palace well I was a bit worried about the bikes but relieved when I saw them chained up. To clarify that its not just in CP but anywhere you leave a bike. Does Matt know CP is near Croydon or should that be Croyden 😉

I've been off my bike for 4 months after having a kid and damn this video makes me want to get out and roll around.

This was a weird way for me to find out I live right next to Ethan Hayter, you guys rode past my house early in the video. I rode for Herne Hill Youth cycling team when Ethan and Fred were riding for VC velo. Now thinking about it I did see a quick guy riding through Crystal palace in Ineos kit.

Did you know Crystal palace had a cycling track like Herne hill too which was run by Anerley B.C .Anerley also rode in the first race at Herne hill.
