I don’t know if you already did but I would like to see a small update about agent layer in new versions (atm I’ve used opadd command in textport to use the legacy one to follow the tutorial). As an alternative to use just one shape, do you think that the geometry capture node might be a solution? Thanks a lot!
The new AGENT LAYERS node is completely different and is not working for me. Could you please have a look at it and add a brief up date. Thanks a lot for the great explanation.

That's right! They changed the way Layers work in Houdini 19 and this approach doesn't work anymore. We'll go through the new one soon 👌🏼
@GrazerX If you link an object to your "Shape Geometry input" it will give you the option to use "Shape Binding" in the greyed out parameters. I think that should do the trick. You can also load their Example file from the help doc and disect it.
Hi, Juanjo. Thanks again for your lessons. Can you give me a small instruction about the crowd? After month of studying Houdini crowd I also started to learn Golaem, and found out that there were agents for the crowd which already have the set of props (roman soldiers have shields, swords, spears, etc.). So, perhaps my question is a bit stupid, but how often do artists add props manually to the models, the way you did in tutorial? Please, I really need to know.

Heyyy! Golaem has its own built-in tools that make Crowd so much easier for artists (and that's why some studios prefer using Golaem), but Houdini gives you absolute control over your scene (and that's the reason why the biggest studios are transitioning now into Houdini). About adding the props, it all depends on the studio. In an ideal situation, Key Artists or Leads will set up everything for you (agents, clips, props...), so that you can start working straight away without worrying too much. Then you will be able to import the character with or without the props, depending on the shot you are working on. Now, this is not always the case - Key Artists and Leads may not have the time to do this, proprietary tools may break, the props may not be properly attached to the joints... So you need to know how it works to be able to survive in these situations (which happen very often... 😅). Hope it answers your question!
@ Oh, I am very grateful to you! This information is helpful. You absolutely right, we need to learn how to work while crunch time or deadline without any help. That's why I'm trying to figure out everything about this profession. Thanks for respond 👍
@ We can attach the swords in rest pose and then you can preview the clip. It simplyfies the process of moving the sword to the hand perfectly. It is easier in rest pose.
loved your tutorials!
sir, are you gonna update the layer system video for the new houdini?

@ Eh, I've expected something like this while watching your brilliant lessons. They constantly change nodes and add new features.

how do you keep transforms with the new layer node?
7:53 made me laugh 🤣😂

"paladin swinging his sword"
19.5 new layer system is pretty confusing :(
Actually the new one is way more flexible.

Amazing
thank you!
It is better to set the clip to rest pose before adding the sword layer.
That's true for props on the body, such as armor/helmets. For handheld props you need to preview the clip and match it accordingly.
