Would love to see you go through his whole discography from start to finish. You really see his whole musical evolution from “frat rap” to his experimental psychedelic rap to him eventually just getting into a lane of his own.

the spins samples half mast by empire of the sun. my parents used to play that empire album in the car when i was like 4 so the spins really has a special place in my heart

I feel like this dudes too young and doesn’t seem like he’s had the life experiences to appreciate that project lol could be wrong though.

I find it interesting that in 2010 Hip Hop Blog culture had "Frat Rap" trending and it became really popular...yet at the same time, "Easycore" also gained a lot of fans in Warped Tour music culture...I am almost 100% sure you guys have never heard of it haha...but look up "In Friends We Trust" by Chunk No Captian Chunk...It could not be more obvious that there was a trend that year of "college music" being marketed towards high school kids. In a 'post-Asher Roth' music industry. I doubt even the rappers and bands knew of eachother, but you can see there was a lot of parallel development happening in both subgenres. There must have been a demand in youth culture for party songs. Mac represented this moment, even better than Wiz, an 18 year old dude rapping about what he hopes his life will be like in his 20s. High schoolers just wanted some tunes that made them feel like they were at a college party, I guess...lol

You so right! I think I was in middle school heading into highschool when this came out and it Immediately became popular among teens…especially pre teens. Even though the lyrics were not so pg 13 😂 it’s like how would we be able to relate yet it was so on demand

7:12 Haha! I never thought to compare Jack Harlow to Mac, but I do wish someone else would give Mac Miller vibes. I only get Mac vibes from Logic old young sinatra mixtapes

Poppy is his grandfather who introduced him to music at a young age and sadly passed away right before mac graduated highschool. poppy makes a cameo in the home footage in the Best Day Ever music video. KIDS released august after his graduation. same thing happened with my “poppy” and i cry to that song everytime i hear it even 13 years later... ❤ great review from a young boul

Yeah I mean speaking from experience of living right outside of Pittsburgh in the suburbs around this time during this period of Mac's career it was mostly just music to smoke to and party to. At the time me and my mostly middle-class white friends weren't constantly analyzing lyrics, just enjoying the vibes. It's funny cause at the time Wiz was putting out similar styles of music but I guess you could say his lyrics were better crafted at the time. In my opinion it's funny cause Wiz sorta went backwards (I still enjoy modern Wiz but I prefer his Kush&OJ days), and meanwhile Mac went from this frat whiteboy backpack rap stuff to a very sophisticated artist before his death.

Chevy Woods was Wiz Khalifa's hype man. Mac and Wiz went to the same high school a couple years apart.
