    I would imagine Crossbreeds would fit into their own Undiscovered-type egg group that permits breeding with the nature-defying Ditto (and maybe their own evolutionary line) but nothing else. Maintain the happy fantasy of the kid-friendly Pokémon while still maintaining the (somewhat sad) truth about Zonkeys, Ligers, and etc.

      I think we could expand on that a little to make things more interesting by allowing crossbreeds to breed with other crossbreeds as long as the parent Pokémon of both share egg groups. After that, the crossbreed produced by them cannot breed with any Pokémon other than Ditto.

    These are really creative. Definitely think they should be able to breed for themselves, although, probably not released, since that would start a whole issue of invasive species that natural Pokémon couldn’t handle.
    Alternatively, small chances of finding cross breeds in nature, like how the pizzly and grolar bears exist (or, in Pokémon’s case, the Ursa line and the Cubchoo line crossbreeding, just as an example, even though both are mono-egg groups, so they wouldn’t work for this specific version of the idea).

  • @Flamingotree74
    @Flamingotree74 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    So I LOVE this idea. And with your question: should these mix breeds be able to breed in the wild?
    Personally: I think no.
    2 reasons
    Doyalist (real world): this would make for a really unique way to obtain new Pokémon. Promoting to pay attention to egg groups and possibly introduce breeding to new players. Could even be EXTREMELY EXTREMELY EXTREMELY rare to encounter in the wild. Like if the lowest encounter rate is 1%, cross breeds would have like a .001% encounter rate. Like it’s not impossible, but it’s RARE.
    Watsonian (in game): think like liger, mule and zorse (I think). They don’t really exist without human intervention. So it could be a rare encounter (more common near the region’s daycare).
    Overall: AMAZING idea!!

    This actually gave me an idea for my own:
    The Aron line is noted to usually get iron from rocks and spring water, but also causes trouble by eating train tracks and bridges, have tough armor, and an aggressive disposition. The Snorlax line has a ravenous hunger which makes it eat everything, have heavyset bodies, and a relaxed disposition.
    When bred together, you get the Normal/Steel type Oraceous, a creature capable of eating everything, organic or not. They're a massive threat to the environment and difficult to keep fed, so wild specimens are caught and used for landscaping.
    Its evolution, Bulkoat, is an absolutely massive Dark/Steel Pokemon which would be crushed under its own weight if not for its exoskeleton of metal. It is a surprisingly maternal Pokemon, protective and gentle towards smaller Pokemon, and violently aggressive towards threats. Many daycares and schools keep one as a guard.

    When it comes to crossbreeding pokemon breeding, I think a good concept is that they don't have conventional egg groups like other pokemon. They can only breed with other members of their evolutionary families and members of their parent species (note, when breeding with their parent species, the egg will be the same species as the female pokemon in the breeding pair, just like with regular breeding). There could be a cool concept where, due to their breeding requirements, crossbreed species are much more isolated from other unrelated pokemon species, resulting in them constantly migrating to avoid other pokemon. As a result, they would only show up in particular conditions in the wild. When they do, you will only be able to encounter their species' evolution line, as their very presence would have temporarily driven away any native pokemon present. The only pokemon that wouldn't be driven away would be members of their parent species, as they would have an instinctual connection with them.

    • @deadbedspread
      @deadbedspread  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Valid criticism! I wanted to be a bit more vague with some of them, instead of being downright fusions. Pokemon get whacky with their own evolutions, so why not with their breeding? With Growhel for instance, while it doesn't resemble either of it's parents, it's a Fairy type dog (of which I believe there are only two), with a backwards facing mouth (which I think only Mawile does), so I don't think it's too out there to not be able to figure out + Remember, if it were an in-game features, trainers would give you hints!

    After a very long time of counting all the possible cross-breeds with two compatible Egg Groups and both being Gendered I have counted a total of...
    240 Pokemon!
    Well 240 Single-Staged Hybrids. If all were 3 Stage Families it would instead be a total of 720 Pokemon!
    Meaning if this feature was actually implemented as of Gen 9 we would have everything between 240 to 720 new Pokemon.
    Though I will note that Regional Forms and Regional Evolutions were counted as the same Pokemon as it's base form as they share the same Family as well as Split Evolutions. Though this only counts for NidorinoF (Counted under Nidoking family though you'd add roughly 3 new Lines if included separately), Slowking (Counted under Slowbro), Sirfetch'd, Cursola and Clodsire

    I have an idea for a cross breed Pokemon, but both of the parents aren't in the egg group, but might as well roll with it. This is a cross breed between the Snowstorm Pokemon Vanilluxe and the Fruit Pokemon Tsareena [Hey, if a cat can breed with a whale in this universe anything's possible], so I'm imagining combining Tsareena's royal inspiration and tropical habitat, and Vanilluxe's ability to cause snowstorms when angry, might as well combine the two. So, the first evolution is Tropifrost.
    Tropifrost:
    Type: Ice/Grass
    Design: Just imagine a Bounsweet but with icicles forming under the leaves and it's legs are made of ice. Along with a cyan body with a light blue triangles under the eyes.
    Dex entry: Despite its cute appearance, Tropifrost can control the weather making it snowy, rainy or sunny depending on their mood, but, Tropifrost have very little control over their emotions, meaning they can cause long droughts, floods or blizzards which can really stunt city growth. Trainers must beware and make sure the don't have Tropifrost reach their breaking point, they're also naturally adapted to live in almost every environment with a simple freeze over..
    At lvl 20 Tropifrost evolves into Fruitflurry
    Type: Ice/Grass
    Design: Imagine a Steenee but it's upper leaves are replaced with many dangling frozen crystals, it's legs and arms being made of ice, and snow covering the upper body.
    Dex entry: Fruitflurry have gain improved weather control abilities but still can get sad or angry about anything as entire cities can be wiped out if a Fruitflurry starts getting emotional. But studies shown that ice skating is one way to stop these emotional outburst, so trainers often go out of there way just to keep their Fruitflurry happy.
    As soon as it learns icicle spear, Fruitflurry evolves into Forestfrost
    Type: You know what it is
    Design: Simple, a Tsareena where it's upper leave are white and brown with ice on top in the shape of the crown, the arms are made of ice with icicles for hands and legs, icy crystals from below the arms to the knees making a dress of ice, and shoulder pads made of ice.
    Dex entry: Having finally mastered their emotions, trainers can no longer worry about their partner causing disaster, but when they feel like them or their trainer are being treated unfairly, they can unleash Armageddon on the place causing blizzards, drought and floods that last years, with enough power to destroy a large city.
    If you like this, that's ok, if you don't, that's also ok, if you think these three shouldn't exist since Vanilluxe aren't in the same egg group so it doesn't make sense, well I say, if a cat can breed with a whale and a pile of sludge can breed with a Gardevoir, anything's possible.

    I thought about doing this sorta thing too and looked up if anyone else had the same idea. I think once the cross bred species are established after a long time (lore), they should breed into 3 separate offsprings, one of their ancestral crossbreeds i.e. whismur and marvel and then their crossbred counter parts making it harder to to get than the originals but if you cross breed two of the same cross breeds, it has a better chance of receiving crossbred forms.

      I was just looking to see if my my favourite Pokémon flygon could be in a crossbreed turns out no (has the unique dragon and bug egg grounds shared by it hole line) however I did fine that the Skorupi line and Wimpod line both share two egg ground (bug and water 3) that could be a fun one
      And also the Shellos line, Boyh forms of Stunfisk and Pincurchin all share the same egg groups (Amorphous and Water) even tho two of them ain’t even water!

    I think it makes the most sense for them to be unable to breed, in part because real crossbreeds can't, and in part because if you want to breed some more of them, you already know how to. These ain't happening by accident.
    Also, the point you made of them having to hold an item so it doesn't go on forever with the crossbreed of a crossbreed? Yeah, this also prevents infinite crossbreed.

    I think it should be mixed, like how it is in nature, there's varying degrees of mix breeding, like making mules by breeding donkeys and horses, zonkeys, dingos, pariah dogs, Growler Bears, etc where they're of same species but different sub species, but than some should be unable to breed, like ligers, tigons, etc but instead it should be determined by how op they are, and how manmade the fusions feels, rather than based on realife logic

  • @teofrastosentropy7098

    Great video, I love the idea so much and the fact that the inspiration behind those Pokémon was extremely well thought;
    I think that:
    1) Cross - Breeds should not be able to breed at all because in real life the big majority of them is sterile.
    2) They coul have high base stats-totals, however I feel like all of them should be short on the base stat of HP since in real life their life expectation is rather low.
    3) I love the Pupinni line and it would be a shame to limit them only to cross-breeding, perhaps they could just be an alternative or regional form or something like that if not a convergent evo.
    P.S. I apologize for my hideous English

    Some hybrids can still breed. Like the grizzly + polar bear hybrid that’s been popping up as Pilar bears are being forced further south.
    So having hybrids that exist in the wild due to environmental changes, that can then breed, would work.

    I was literally thinking about how Pokemon fusion could potentially work as a generational mechanic down to the same egg group requirement, and then this suddenly appears in my recommended!
    My original idea was that the fused Pokemon would just look like them both combined, but the fusion would still have some IRL reference or inspiration. An example off the top of my head would be an Ursaring/Beartic fusion based on those grizzly/polar bear hybrids that have been appearing due to climate change. I like this concept of entirely new Pokemon being created more though, because it offers a lot more creative freedom in both what they could look like and what can be drawn from for inspiration.
    I'd love to see even more of this concept from you, and also whatever else you make, especially once Scarlet and Violet release!

  • @hannarowan8735

    So, I think I found another potential interesting cross breed pair from the new Pokémon games.
    I have an Annihilape and a Cetitan (male and female respectively) and I was picnicking and they had triplets (two boys and one girl)! I wasn’t even trying to breed them.
    The funny thing is that I have three male Pokémon with the Field Egg group and yet my Cetitan chose my Annihilape for her partner (they both had attack boosting natures and so do their offspring, with the exception of one neutral nature child)
    So anyway, a crossbreed between Annihilape and Cetitan. I think an interesting idea would be having a base pokemon, and it’s evolutions would be branched depending on Gender, much like Snorunt.

    As far as the egg question, a couple of them would make sense but it would also be cool to have them be a rare boss for the general area where both of the parents live, but don’t have enough of other individuals to continue the new species for long regardless, so it would likely be a matter of going back and forth on whether they want to be extinct or not

    The fertility of real life crossbreeds depends on how evolutionary close their parents are. The children of brown bears and polar bears *can* breed.
    So I'd say the Pokémon crossbreeds should be able to, given your care to make their parents have to share both egg groups.

  • @HannibalKantter
    @HannibalKantter ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cross-breeding fertility should vary from an species to another, just like in real life. While many crossbreeds are unfertile, grolar bears and many big cat cross-breeds are known to being able to breed

    Unfertile hybrids are due to an uneven number of chromosomes, so depends on the number of chromosomes of the parent species.
    Meaning some hybrids could breed.

    Actually some hybrid animals CAN breed, in fact some ligers are even capable of breeding, and rehybridising with lions and tigers. This happens in the wild in a variety of species, creating populations down the line that appear to be one species, but still have a small percentage of their dna from another species. A good example of this is the fact that some humans can have as much as like 1% Neanderthal dna from hybridisation that occurred thousands of years ago.

  • @tanglekelp1857

    I think that a good way to obtain these without the time sink of breeding could be something like a safari zone area that exclusively houses these crossbred Pokemon! Gives us an easy way to catch them without breeding, but also allows people to create them for competitive purposes.
