So I'm guessing we going to get flashbacks from mae's point of view later.
We'll get the rest of the story of the flashbacks in later episodes.
@5:20, was that from the Stargate movie?
no
Yeah, I don’t know. Why would the Jedi kill an entire coven of witches to what end? And this is supposed to be from the so-called High Republic when they are supposed to be at their peak. I don’t see them wiping out an entire group of witches to take two kids off the planet. I guess we’ll just have to wait-and-see. As far as the series as a whole, I give it about a 5 to 6. Thanks for the video.
"3D printing children" 😆😆😆
I mean that how women's bodies work. They take food and make it into a human.
😂
"Jedi do not take children!" literally their entire business model 😂
Jedi recruiting be like “hey kid you wanna know how you too get get a sick ass lightsaber?”
First time is free.
Mae I don't feel so well...
Thanos snap 1/2
"Hey kid, you wanna..."
"Shut up Oldman, , never heard of Jedi, but take my MFin money now you stupid face"
Would have worked on me🤷♂️
Did anyone have issues with the acting in this episode? I felt all the scenes with the twins were tough to watch.
Terrible acting
EP3 was boring. Uninteresting story and the acting makes Hayden look like Oscar material.
@MCPrimetime Yeah wasn't a fan of this episode. I actually didn't mind the previous episodes. My wife whose just a casual Star Wars watcher didn't enjoyed any so far haha
I mean hard to find good kid actors nowadays, back then everyone just abused their kids to get that paycheck. But that chanting scene from the ceremony is the one thing that had me cringing.
Mother Aniseya actress was very good, imo. I would agree that the girls weren't very good. Good kid actors are pretty rare. No disrespect to him, but Jake Lloyd wasn't very good either (don't come for me prequel fans!😅)
May went straight dark side trying to kill her sister just for wanting to do her own thing. Thanks Charlie
I feel the sith master killed the coven so it would drive Mae to the dark side.
@@reeferbobsith master manipulating mae and the padawan(he possibly killed the main witch)
Let me tell you about this guy that had a dream (Not MLK) and decided to take the advice of a dude in a dark robe to stop the dream from coming true by becoming the youngling slayer.
I think Mae was in a spell. Probably being controlled
@@reeferbobI feel like it’s trinity thT killed them, and maybe trinity has some hidden dark side. Maybe not even really dead, now I don’t know if I think that because it’s crazy to have an actress of her caliber die in the very first scene(although flashbacks are used to bring her back.) would be great to see her have a dual side. Buttttt I do have a history of investing into Star Wars theories that never come true
I’m struggling to see the justification for such massive budget
yeah fr
It looks amazing? You can’t even tell what is CGI
Money laundering
Probably the last episodes will show why
🙄then quit watching, stop 'struggling' and watch something that doesn't trigger you.
If one of the mothers is the sith and unmasks and says " i am your mother"...we riot lol
i'm getting the molotov cocktail ready for the raid on the galactic hotel ^^
It seems like they set up the head mother to be plagueis. With the copying of palps lines. Then the whole 3D printing kids. I really hope this isn't the case. However, I'm feeling it thru the thread. However, I don't think they're smart enough to pull that string.
@@-cgranty2954 i think this thought is stupid and they are much smarter, because there is no string...
Why would they do that?
Do you even know why he said "no, I am your father"?
It's not "I am your father" Vader was exposing a lie.
If you wanna play gatekeeper you should at least understand and know the material
I’d fall off my couch laughing if this happens! 😂😂😂 I’ll riot with you! 😂
I think Sith Lord killed the witches and arranged the things that Mae believe that Jedi did it to be able to convince her for Dark Side.
Coven in the oven
Eeeeyup, I agree. Since when does smoke kill that many ppl close to each other. Wouldn't you crawl away from smoke? Yeahhh, they was struck down. Plus why did that one Jedi have a scar on his eye? Fire does that? Nah.
Mae is a sociopath who abhorred the idea of her sister leaving with the Jedi, so much, that she decided to kill her. Also why would the Jedi be fighting against the coven if Osha already had Mother's blessing to leave with them?
Perhaps the jedi had already begun killing the women, and the twins sisters hatred of her twin, burning of the jedi book, and trying to kill her sister, and blaming her sister for everything was a response to the jedi slaughtering everyone to try to get both of the twins. Only a minute or passed between when she began the fire and we see everyone dead, which makes no sense
Y would that jedi kill him self over guilt for what he did to them, if the jedi weren't responsible
Mother Coral is the sith. She killed the covent with bunta and blamed it on Maes fire. Hence why Mae killed Torban with bunta poison. And their names are Mae and Ferosha. Symbolizing, May the Force be with you.
Master Sol is the Qui gon Jinn in The High Republic
Looks that way
@richtang4946 I mean I guess remember the Masters stated that there where many who left the order in Clone wars and that's part of the reason why there were so few left. There were a lot of Jedi before and during QGJ time that leaned the same way he did. Some more than others.
good lord this show couldnt be any worse.

This is gonna go over alot of peoples heads but those that understand the things that played out in this episode, and the parallels to real life, as well as to the TRUE FORCE (father, daughter and son balance) will have liked this episode. Mae is true to the coven while Osha wants to explore the galaxy - which causes a rift between the two as her curiosity basically indirectly allows the jedi to bring down the coven. They are Yin and Yang, the Coven of the nightsisters is under threat of persecution by the republic under force of the jedi, they oppress use of the force outside of the order for their biliteral view (good vs evil) while the coven has a different more nuanced view of the force (a thread that binds all things together depending on how you pull it - more aligned with the actual ancient force vs what the Jedi are tought). The coven rebels against the jedi's demand to hand over both children and a fight breaks our right as Mae is burning Oshas jedi book. This causes a fire, but it is definitely not what killed the coven, perhaps another heatsource that is more concentrated?. To be fair I really do enjoy a different perspective on the force as this idea was already teased in Clone Wars. The force - father daughter and son. I think this show is going to not disappoint, but sadly the witchhunting tikitorch mob has already condemned the show because "Disney".
It is interesting to see how people are missing the concept of this, I think this show challenges the goodguy vs badguy narrative and those that have came from colonial history probably have a way better manner of seeing what happened in this episode somehow. ❤
Worth noting that the stone in that building was some of the most flammable that I have ever seen.
😂😂😂 That gasoline impregnated stone.
You know we're going to see Mae's perspective in like 2-3 episodes exploring how the temple was really destroyed, right? Like this was a deliberately skewed perspective.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration wants to be a Jedi.
I see a potential conflict of interest with their mandate here.
If you know what “osha” means, this series cannot be the same 😂
Every time I hear “osha this, osha that”

The actress playing Koril will appear in Daredevil Born Again playing Matt Murdocks love interest. Also parallels to The Phantom Menace is played throughout the whole episode. The scene between Aniseya and Osha mirrored Shmi and Anakin before leaving Tatooine. This episode really tells the foreshadowing of what is to come 100 years later with The Phantom Menace. You had the House of Mortis storyline playing out between the sisters one representing the light and the other representing the dark. Anakin is the one that brings the balance between the light and dark sides. It looks like the Jedi Order feel threatened if someone learns to use the force without Jedi training. The Nightsisters want to build their own force wielders to fight the Jedi Order.
Man that sounds exactly right 💯 def kept making me think of Anakin but to me they shoulda almost let Anakin be the only one born from the Force
@@swaggzhearnicane212he's the only one born with both good and bad in him.
💩
Notice how a concrete fortress just burst into flames in a few moments! And all the people were lying down dead in a room. None of which was burnt and there wasn't any smoke in the room where they were. Your explanation of a fight sounds reasonable, but the way it was presented it just looked implausible. They all had force abilities and nobody looked like they were missing limbs from a light saber!
Maybe they drank the bunta kool-aid it was weird to me too no cuts or anything that we could see. Poison was all I could think of.
@@ThePman007 Good possibility but then why was the one Jedi feeling so guilty he killed himself? A group of Jedi don't seem to me to be the ones using poison, it is a chickenshit move. So again why would they feel guilty? I assume they will fill these holes eventually but the way it is presented in this episode makes me think that they really didn't put much effort into it.
@@MrKbeaumontguilt is not reasonable. But he could have killed the main witch. This flashback is not complete
@@MrKbeaumontso wait till the next episode before assuming low effort. ppl are so impatient these days.
I think electricity has domething to do with it. That giant machine we saw earlier spark. And if everyone got shocked they wouldn't have time to react
I disagree with Emergency Awesome with him saying that Osha and Mae weren't born like Anakin. I believe the episode was absolutely making both events similar. I think they were absolutely saying that Osha and Mae were born through the Force just like Anakin, it just happened a century before Anakin's birth and I am in shock. 😳 Just my opinion of course. 😉
Completely agree
Well not exactly. They were supposedly created directly by Mother A (don’t feel like trying to spell her name right now) while Anakin was created by the Force itself.
It's kinda obvious that Darth Plagueis is the Sith Lord in the mask, and that he learned how to create life through the force after encountering May and learning how the Witches influenced her conception. One could argue, he "perfected" the technique. If this turns out to be true, it's kinda nice learning more about Darth Plagueis. Because, either him, or his master, was active during the High Republic.
Nice theory! We'll see!
On a different TH-cam channel thread I argued the same thing after the first episodes. While the books have Plagueis as a Munn, I wonder in Qimir is secretly Plagueis, Note how he plays around with chemistry and biology, and also his drunkenness. Plagueis engaged in scientific experiments and died when he got so drunk that Sidious could kill him without a serious fight.
That would be true if this show didn't take place 100 years ago
Oh that would be perfect. Hopefully it's like that
@@NotRJ001 why?
When I heard the " like us" phrase I got tropic thunder vibes
I agree with 98% of what you theorized. In my opinion, Sol is acting very suspicious, and has been. Vehemently telling his shipmate that Mae is dead and that he watched her die, then doing an about-face and telling Osha, "I believe you", when she says that Mae is alive. He's either hiding something from his fellow Jedi, or he's coddling Osha so as not to piss her off. Then, staring blankly when Osha hugs him. Ok, maybe he's not used to attachment and it took him by surprise. I'll allow that, lol.
All in all, the episode wasn't great, but it was nowhere near as bad as some had said. I'm not a fan of a full episode dedicated to backstory when there are only 8 in total.
We also don't see koril's body anywhere for a character so visually distinct love seeing xabraks in live action) so vehemently anti jedi i think it deliberate storytelling choice to not show her body if she even is dead.
Carrie Ann Moss is the Sith. Faked her death (they were surprised that a knife wound killed a master jedi).
In fact all the jedi are sith trying to train a sith by finding children who the jedi don't know about. Which is why the force sensitive could feel the nature of the sith in them and was guided away. The other want to test the water and see how deep it is.
Why is it so surprising a knife killed a Jedi? They’re physically no different from a human… bounty hunters used shotguns with actual projectiles and flame throwers to hunt Jedi… they couldn’t block the slugs, they’d melt and hit them still
My too deep question is how many janitor jedi at the temple are kids who were borderline sith, and the jedi don't want to give them a reason to snap.
Ok Charlie "3d Printing on the fly" was a good one liner Bro! 👍 then you Drop Chekov's force dyad! LOL Bravo
Small theory here... Sol wasn't able to catch Mae in time, but in Episode 1, he was able to use the force to catch Osha from falling off the ledge. Guessing he honed in on learning that ability from guilt over not being able to save Mae when he was a younger Jedi.
It would be awesome if Darth Plageus made an appearance.
Keep in mind that it seems like palpatine was kind of lying. When he told Anakin that he and or plagueis knew how to create life let alone even bring back life, he never actually followed through. And the writers of that comic book confirmed that Anakin was not created by sidious.
Totally unrelated, but since they're exploring a new religion, I hope they do some new abilities involving more spiritual stuff like the world between worlds since that kind of fits the thread view of the force too
EXCELLENT breakdown as usual...I wanna add something that was not brought up from when Saul got that prisoner to quiet his mind ...if you go back to that interaction I CLEARLY heard the prisoner say JUST BEFORE he told Saul what happened to the girl...'The jedi killer is evil...I sensed her darkness...beware' ...so who is that violent criminal and how does he sense this about Osha?!!
You didn’t cover the Maz looking character who suggested they lie on the test. Who is that?
Yes!! I immediately thought of Maz too! I was wondering if she is from the same species Maz is.
Why were the Jedi in the previous episode acting like they caused everyone's death when it was that crazy ass Mae that was responsible! Doesn't add up!
Mae's fire didn't kill the Force Witches.
Yea seems like throughout episodes we will get flashbacks to that night. Jedi probably fought witches to take osha. Torbin seemed ready to accept his fate when he drank poison so has to be something they did. Which he did say they thought they were doing the right thing
Mae shows up confused and drops down in a hole.
Because Make obviously didn't cause the deaths. We only see her burn the book then we don't see her again until after everything has happened.
Well probably see what happened from her point of view in the next 2 episodes
@@emergencyawesome Mae's acting killed the show, though.
Training children is forbidden.
Now hold my saber while we train these children.
Fun fact, rocky mountains can be set on fire with a notebook 😂
Mae starting the fire could've made Sol sensitive when he asked the young ones what they saw...
It just amazes me how the Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor video games have a story 1000x better than this dribble.
This episode was off. The acting was plain bad and the pacing was terrible. Hoping this series picks up or it’s going to be the weakest live action series by a parsec
Do you remember Andor? The worst live action EVER created in any series or galaxy...
@@braykayash7043 Huh? You're joking.
Just because you didn’t like it doesn’t make it bad acting writing etc.
@@TravelsTTG I mean, if you liked it, good for you. But A LOT of people didn’t lol. Look at the RT score. Abysmal
I’ve been enjoying it, also dig this episode (and the acting). Speak for yourself smh. And as RT scores go, think for yourself.
Being a fully flashback episode it was a little too slow, and didn’t even answer my questions about poison drinker. Hoping it picks up soon.
A small thing I don’t see talked about is the witches’ method of force “linking”
It seems similar to the knights of ren, to achieve something grand they need to share their power between each other(In this accessing purple magik)
It is also used by the Jedi in this period.
I really don't understand why everyone is against this new star wars series. Its a new star wars series set in a completely different timeline with new characters etc and it's not tied to the skywalkers. Surely that makes it exciting. This is something that star wars needs moving forward. Star wars needs to branch away from the skywalker name and needs to tell new stories, with new characters etc. It's exactly what the jurassic franchise is doing. And the jurassic park franchise is probably the second biggest franchise after star wars.
So, I say again. I don't understand why fans are against this new star wars series. I really don't. I know star wars fans are very passionate etc, but I guess it's all to do with how the mouse house have handled the star wars name ever since they bought it from Lucas.
No they made it very clear. They used dark force alchemy to make the children. They were conceived using the force. That doesn't break cannon with Anikan. If anything it gives more context on how Palpatine could have used the force to influence the creation of Anikan. Which is old EU Canon. So it actually gives us more context. Smh
My current theory: The Jedi did enter the temple during the fire, but it was independent of the fire because the Mother had decided that Osha had to die rather than go with the Jedi, and the Jedi uncovered the plot so they came to rescue Osha, which led to a massacre.
Turns out only male zabracks have horns. So either that zabrack lady isnt a lady or the writers don't care about cannon.
Or she is an Iridonian Zabrak.
@dbks_ Yep
The story is really cool. Why did they hire high school actors and production? $170million is not earned if the humans other than CG people took more than minimum. This really could have been better.
I don’t believe that this episode shows what happened. It shows what Osha believes happened. Or remembers. It doesn’t show why the Jedi feel guilty, and this can explain the discrepancies with the fire burning stone and all the deaths without explanation. It’s memories, not the whole story of that day
Well, it only shows it from her perspective. Judging by the source material that they are using for inspiration for this show, it is very likely that we will see these events play out several times, each from a different perspective, allowing you to try and piece together the truth of what actually happened before the big reveal.

This show has a 180 million budget. Double ObiWan. Where is that going? When the Coven is practicing magic and the strands they could have showed it more. The wookie costume is horrible. The “massive” fire was lack luster CGI. The Jedi costumes look ordered from Temu.
Idk what everyone is whining about... I've been enjoying it so far. It's no Andor but it's still pretty solid.
Finally, an actual break down that feels like I’m just listening to a buddy talk. Not “this is the worst thing ever because it’s not what I EXPECTED” 👍🏽.
@dbks_ exactly😂😂
What did I just watch... I'm not referring to this video. I mean episode 3.
I’m fully convinced Osha and her sister are a dyad in the Force.
Two individuals that are one being in the Force.
The book that is held by Oscha had republic sign!
I think neither the Jedi nor the Coven are the actual guilty party here. Both end getting manipulated to fight each other by an outside Sith force of some kind. So extreme guilt all around.
Charlie I love your channel and your reviews but when I didn’t see a video for this episode last night I was hoping that you had given up on it and I was a little bummed that you did make one this morning.
This is the first time I’ve commented on any of your videos btw… I’m sorry but this show is garbage and is making Star Wars worse; I was okay with the first episode but they’ve consistently gotten worse and worse and I don’t think I can stand to watch anymore of them.
I think that you’re great and I’ve been following you for several years and will continue to do so, thanks for all you do and for being such a positive person in the world!
I really wish we could get some star wars stories like this that are trying the be different and expand the universe, but are written better. The characters feel inconsistent. The "mystery" of what happened in the fire is laid out in a frustrating way. The dialogue is really basic and doesn't sound like it's coming from a character that has inner thoughts and emotions.
It's a bummer because I'm sure many people worked hard on this. As of right now, this isn't working for me.
There is a scene in one of the trailers that shows the Wookie Jedi attacking Torben (likely how he got the scar on his eye). My theory is that the witches used their abilities to get the Jedi to turn on each other, likely using Torben to either kill some of the witches (to give them a reason to fight back, or something like that) which is why he felt guilty enough to commit suicide to atone.
I think the sith master is mother anesha. Im calling it now Charlie! remember it. lol
I also loved the irony of the Jedi telling the coven training children is wrong, because they should be the only ones to not only train children, but to also remove them from their families
Seriously if Torbin spent 10 years in meditation, he went from Padawan to Master in 6 years? Explain it please
Bad writing
There’s nothing to say that Torbin was a master. He is likely only a knight.
In this episode as a Padawan he is clearly at the end of his apprenticeship. Looks a similar age to Obi Wan in Phantom Menace if not a bit older. Therefore we can assume he is about to ascend to the rank of Knight
Obi wan went from being a knight to master in just over ten years.
But let’ not forget one does not have to be a “Jedi master” in order to actually be referred to as “master”. It’s a title/sign of respect used by others when addressing them… As is evidenced across the saga.
The hatred for the show is such herd mentality. I loved that we still do not know what was happening, that we will see what happened from a different perspective later, that there are still tones of mystery, that we expand the lore of force wielders. That we see Jedi making mistakes that are definitely rooted in their experiences with the Sith wars and what will lead to their greater downfall. Is it possible 100% awesome? No. But is it a solid show that is interesting and engaging. Yes. The hate is so strong in so many.
I thought the symbol on the notebook looked like a kids drawing of the Jedi symbol or an offshoot symbol similar to the Jedi order symbol
I thought it did too.
yep, me as well
I immediately thought of Obi-Wan speaking to Luke when I heard that mother's talk on the "threads". I'm with holding judgement on who was responsible for the death of all of the witches. I'm sure there are a few facts that we haven't been privy too yet. I also can't forget that Mae was the one that started that fire and was willing to kill sister rather than let her go to the Jedi.
My favorite lines in the episode were by Mother Aniseya talking to the twins about the Jedi: "This isn't about good or bad. This is about power and who is allowed to use it."
This show is very disappointing. The story is clumsy and the writing is lazy. Bummer!
I'm going to call it that though the may have killed the witches, it's part self-defense. Unless, there is a war like the Attack of The Clones, Jedi don't kill or initiate the attack. It's usually, the enemy who actually starts the fight. Like even Anakin vs Obi-Wan, Obi-Wan did say he will do what he must, but it was Anakin who attacked first. But we'll need to wait for next episodes to see if they're going to reveal that.
Nice theory!
This should've been the FIRST episode! I LIKE it, it was beautiful. Slow paced, but beautful and catching -- we would get to care about all the main characters right from the start
Kelnaca wasnt in thw ship at the end. U could say he was the pilot, but as we have seen they dont need a pilot always. In the trailer kelnaca fights Torbin. So i think kel hurt Torbin and didnt approve what the jedi wanted to do....for whatever reason...
Tommen and Joffrey both die via poison!
yep!
I kinda wish this was the first episode. If there was a big reveal I might feel differently but it happened pretty much exactly how Sol described it.
ME TOO!!! Thought this should have been the first episode
Great breakdown Charlie! Do we know how many episodes are left ?
There are 8 Episodes total
So let's just skip over Mae murdering two people?? Maybe the twist is she'll be good and Osha will be dark lol I'm done
I am convinced that the sith master might be Mother Koral because she was the last one with May before she set the fire! And the real reason why May is trying to kill the jedi is because she blames them for trying to split them apart in the first place.
Now I see why Carry-Anne Moss is on the cover...FLASH BACKS. lol
Well I'm holding any type of complaints or judgements until the entire series is over. But so far I'm intrigued because there's no hand holding throughout the episodes and IMHO the story assumes we the viewers are intelligent enough to assume there's more to this story as the episodes continue. I kind of like it when there's guessing involved as the story unravels. Like I said before, no knee-jerk reactions until it's over!
The Fortress immediately reminded me of the castle from one of the Ewok movies from the 80s. I really thought they were going there for about a 3 seconds. that would have been insane to pull out of the past.
The first 2 episode were ok had potential the 3rd jumped the shark
11:38 i didn't recognize him all that crazy
Hey Charlie👋🏻. Do you think the Master was already in this planet, and was he already influencing Mae? Someone found her and took her away.
Based on episode 7, no.
I am enjoying this series so far.
I'm pretty sure that Temple is Zeffo... From the Jedi video games.
Nice theory!
Appreciate your dedication Charlie in covering this series with fair and detailed reviews. I’m still enjoying the series and not being influenced by negative comments. Whatever amount of darkside energy the coven utilizes it’s clear the coven has love for each other so the Jedi’s cut and dry doctrine could use some introspection. Wondering if Mother Koril is still alive?
I love how you just break it down and point out everything we missed. You don’t really judge the episodes ❤️
Sol is the big bad…did we all clock that only Sol Mae and Osha know about the Bunta Tree?
That’s a shout he did follow them from that location
in legends the which of Dathomir aren't all night sisters. They may include this in canon.
the whole episode looks more like a "unreliable narrator" scenario
- when Mae and Osha meet again at the damaged bridge she asked Osha "what did you do?"
maybe a Jedi used a Mind Trick on Osha and she only thinks she saw Mae starting the fire
the whole scene is weird - the fire in front of the door was too localized
and only ment to keep her in her room
there was nothing in the hallway to catch fire - this episode raises so many questions ...
So do you all think the covent is real dead or they just faked their deaths? Like, to me it just felt so weird seeing all of them laying around when nothing was shown happening. If they're all dead for real that was badly done imo
No, I think they were killed.
@emergencyawesome That would make more sense, and probably the reason why the second jedi felt guilty and committed suicide.
And the girl who fell thought the one who stayed up died. Makes sense.
I think it has something to do with the Sith Dark side Force user he made Mae start the fire 🔥 I think next episode will reveal that somehow
Mother Coral is the sith
It’s going to be a busy few months with this, The Boys and House of The Dragon right in a row. We definitely do not get the full story yet. We got a version of the truth. Excited to see what’s next. Thanks as always for your hard work on all these breakdowns.
Thank you! I appreciate it! My Boys Season 4 Episode 1-3 video will post Thurs. House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 1 on Sunday!
They’re going to make Mae dead and she now lives in OSHA’s mind. So she’s been living as both people.
Clearly these is more to the story. Torbin didn't take that poison for no reason without guilt.
And she very well could have made them from the force.
Poor opinion, presented as fact
May criticized Osha for breaking her promise. But May herself gave a wow to her mother to uphold the traditions of force witches. I think joining the Sisth as acolyte seems to me not part of the vow scope from the accession ceremony.
In the first episode, Mae told Indara that Jedi attacked unarmed opponents. She likely saw Indara and Torbin cutting down the coven.
I still don't get why Tobin felt so guilty that he had to take the poison. The jedi did nothing wrong on that planet.
All you saw was mae with fire, Not what happened after pay attention closely please
We haven’t seen there side yet
I fire didn't kill all those witches
If they think their witch coven is precarious, what happens if the Jedi find out how Heedland drove the franchise off a cliff??
