When eBay first started years ago I had a route of about 17 thrift stores in Miami that I was able to pay my bills and did pretty well. I transitioned to importing and then manufacturing my own products but now I'm retired and thinking about starting eBay again part time and wanted to see what was the latest information on selling on eBay. Your video was extraordinary. I think you're TH-cam channel is going to grow a lot bigger if you keep making content like this. I subscribed very happily.

I started selling on eBay in 1997. I worked full time on a job, so it was really just a hobby. Almost every thing I listed sold. eBay was the new thing at that time. I did it off and on for 10 years. I burned out on it so I got to where I was just listing rarely and actually just buying. I’m telling you all this so you will know how much I appreciate your tutorial. I’ve retired and have been thinking about reselling again. eBay has changed a lot, I was actually working with AOL as my service provider, lol. I still have my eBay store, but the info you provided gave me the incentive to give it a go again. Your tutorial was concise, well put together and easy to understand. I’m not going to be selling as large an inventory as you have but just for extra money and for fun. I did enjoy the hunt for treasures to sell. You got a new subscriber and I will be watching all your videos. Thank you for sharing!
This was very helpful to me. I retired last fall and now I have tons of high end fashion that air have bought over the years. I spend my days gardening now, and only visit Costco and Thrift stores so my wardrobe from my advertising and design days is just taking up space in all of my closets. I have more shoes that my local thrift stores, and same with purses etc. As a Industrial Designer Ive always had an ye for well made fashion and accessories, and though I NEVER BOUGHT BY BRAND, RATHER I BOUGHT BASED ON MATERIAL, TAILORING, COLOUR ETC I WAS SURPRISED to find out I had some popular brands, many in my closets. I decided not to leave the clearing out of my stuff for my kids after I die to selling them myself so I can give them the money before I die:). Some of what you said was very helpful, some I knew from my years in retail, I just hope it translates to Canada, where I. live. Thanks again. Love to hear your thoughts on my plan.
I appreciate your content... Just sold my second curling iron, thanks for the tip. Started in June, and thanks to your channel, I just made Top Seller on Ebay

This is the BEST video I have ever seen dealing with this. I have been selling on eBay for a year and a half now. I'm not where your at but with your guidance I will be one day. My set up is similar to yours already so I'm on the right track. I just have to make some changes. Well. I can attest my channel has tons of drama. Me trying to figure out how to actually source, post and sell. Just me competing against myself. Drama for the ages. 😂

Just discovered you, and I’m so happy I did. I’ve been very overwhelmed, and thanks to your videos and laying out your methods for success, I am now motivated to try and start my ebay business again! You are much appreciated and I’m very grateful for you!
I sat through your video after I said, I am not going to. You are so thorough, and very clear, time flew by so quickly. I like your presence, very natural, very honest. What work did you do before Ebay? You made me want to sell on Ebay. I was against it because almost everyone sells on Ebay. How do people find or choose your item with so much competition? I appreciate your help. Keep up the good work Jride.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge. My wife and I have learned more from you than anyone else we watch on youtube. Please continue with this series with more information. Thank you so much.
WOW what content. I have to say that you really broke this down. Having been in sales my whole life, you really did cover a lot of interesting items and how it is a numbers game. No matter if you are selling wine or on Ebay its all sales and consistency is the key. Thank you for sharing....Remember people its a job and it takes dedication.
Great video! An inventory and cogs recording for taxes would be awesome! Part 2 on this video for sure! Thanks so much for taking time to make these videos!
Thank you for your video. I have learned to save on shipping by going hunting for boxes Wed nights when people take out their bulk garbage to be picked up Thurs mornings. Also grocery stores, I ask them if I can recycle their empty boxes. It has saved me a lot of money on buying shipping boxes. Also, If I am ever out of shipping bags, I use the free USPS bags. I turn them inside out and ship the item like them. I have learned all these resources from TH-camrs.
Amazing video bro! I´m all in into starting my own ebay full time business, I´m starting this week, right now I´m driving uber eats full time all around LA so this is gonna be perfect for me, thank you for sharing!
That is true about shipping. When I worked at Fed Ex I watch the drivers toss Gateway computers across the floor. He looked at me and said " there is no such thing as fragile in this business". Also the same as when at UPS shoving 100lbs items into a aircraft can on top of a shoe box. So pack that shit in much insulation as you can.
Would’ve been nice to see how you packed up the Bose radio that you threw. Also the discrepancy in your weight when you make your draft for the item but then the actual shipping weight after you box up everything and the dimensions as well. They’re going to be different. The omission of that is going to confuse a lot of people new to eBay.
Curious on why you don't use schedule to list rather than using your draft bank to manually list daily. I currently use scheduling to list daily so if things come up I don't have to worry about listing.
I very much appreciate the info. Especially about shipping. I completely agree with you that finding boxes wherever you can is the best. Even at a transfer station (dump) that recycles cardboard can save a ton. Buying new boxes is not only expensive but flies in the face of recycling
Jake Rider this was the most helpful information I’ve seen over my days of research. THANK YOU for taking the time to help us newbies understand how to get our side gig going. Perhaps the best tip was quick listing / Bank via sell similar and RETURNS. Off to adjust my settings. Will be tuning into to more of your videos. Did you sell the BLUE KITCHEN AID MIIXER? 🙂
Great video! Would love to see more! I only started a couple of weeks ago and I think this was the best info yet. I really liked the advice about the x amount of drafts/listings per day. I already have made a few mistakes but luckily I am starting out by decluttering my house before I go out shopping too much so I don't feel too bad about losing a few dollars. I am going to keep "Slow is smooth and smooth is fast" in front of me. I currently work full time so I will see how this goes! I will also browse your videos - looking for info on when to list on an auction and when to list Buy it Now. Thanks from Minnesota!
Thank you for laying it out so clearly! I’ve sold occasionally on eBay since 2003 and learned so much from you in this video! I didn’t realize there was a business policies section. I use my phone mostly. I am watching videos in an attempt to find the motivation I need to tackle my massive death pile and you have created a small spark of motivation for sure! Thanks so much!!
Oh my gosh! I just want you to know I'm doing the exact same thing. I sold very part time but as many do I bought full time. Life happened and I stopped lusting for the most part. Now, I'm looking for the motivation to take care of my overwhelming death pile. Good luck to you, hope you find your motivation!
God bless us all , and we can do it , Especially with the price of food and everything going up , I've sold on ebay since 2006 , part-time, but then in 2014, we lost our youngest child & only daughter who loved helping me dress the mannequins, etc. I fell off deep , but due to our economy I have so much to sell NEW & USED , I'm trying once again , I only have 31 items up and try daily to list , with the holidays its been extremely hard . God bless you all Josette Montgomery County, Texas 🙏 ❤
The information on sell through rate is great but you aren’t ticking the “pre-owned” box while looking items up and that is very important if you ask me
I am only partway through, but this is awesome and I want to say thank you. I am Starting with my house as a thrift store! Partner and combined household last year and there are just so so many things to go through from electronics, sporting equipment (so many golf sets), clothes still in packaging, furniture, Video games, consoles, knickknacks, I mean everything from every category and I have put this off for over a year because I just don’t know where to start or how to price things. This is a super helpful information. Maybe I will enjoy the process and venture out of thrifting from home after this. Thx will watch your others
Great video!!! thanks for the tip of drafting items, I have to start with 6 a day and listing 3 . For sourcing I would recommend buying cheap storage units since some areas it's hard to find great items at thrift stores and garage sales to resell on eBay , I did the switch 2 years ago from thrifting every day to just buying storage units in auction once a month and best decision of my life!! Start off with a unit no more then 50 dollars until you hit one that pays big at least over 1,000 then you could graduate to one no more then 500 the unit and only if you see that in value or there is many boxes and totes where your paying around 5 a box or tote . Since you have to make up your money from the unit, researching every item you don't know is the best way to learn new niches because when it's just totes and boxes you never know what your going to get to sell , I've recently learned some new flat ware brands, vintage brooches and hearing aids 🤑🤑🤑 all sold between 140-270
That's the thing with storage units you never know what's hiding inside 🤯🤮 I would ask if you found any thing of value but most likely they sold it for there habit 🤮. I just got kicked out of bidding for not cleaning a staged unit , the key is sticking to the facilities that have done good and not overpaying for the what if lockers at unknown facilities 😅 the websites don't care if the facilities are staging there units, I've sent them pictures to prove they where relisting the same room I left behind as a lien unit and I bought it for the second time just so no one would get scammed out of the 200 deposit since there was no value and they would of spent way more to dump all the garbage, but they ignored my messages and calls and that facility still posted rooms .
Never knew these mailing services, including USPS, would heave your packages onto trucks, but it's good to know to protect your items. I've watched a few other TH-cam videos about ebay shipping, etc, but no one ever mentioned this. Good info to know, but hopefully they don't all do this.
Great information. I am not a beginner but was still able to learn a few things I did not know. I am definitely looking forward to more videos like this one. Thank you.
This is the first video I’ve seen about selling on eBay. Thank you for walking me through it. I feel much better about trying my luck selling. Thanks again!
The very best video. The wall throughs, the advice - you touched on it all just enough....I even took notes...but I'm old. Now for the "nexts." Really, thanks a ton. Especially for the shipping policies and the "save for laters."
Thank you for your video. I’m following along with you as you are entering Business policies. Under USPS Priority Flat Rate Envelope, EBay requires cost to be entered. Do you know what amount I should enter or how to calculate that amount? I appreciate your time.
Any chance you could break this into chapters? Tons of great info, it’d be nice to be able to easily jump around by topic if I wanted to come back to it
Excellent video. I would definitely want to see an intermediate level with additional tips. I appreciate the organization of this information and your generous mentorship.
How does having a eBay store work out for ebay fees against your products sold compared to someone listing items randomly for buy it now or at auction?
Just watched your beginners guide to ebay and just with what I can remember & what I wrote down, I my head is spinning with all of the quality info. I didn't know. Thank you and please..... Please keep it up!!
thanks for the video and great info. do i need to show the income when i file the tax. does the e-bay send anything each time when we sell anything. do we need any license.
When you were talking about shipping you had said when it comes to your items calculations for weight you put in the weight your ITEM weighs and the size of your ITEM is and you enter that and that will give you the shipping cost. But then you were talking about that when you sell the item you enter the weight of your shipped item (in it's shipping packaging) and you put the measurements of your boxed up package. I am confused though, when listing your item which calculations do you enter unboxed item or boxed item?
You are by far, and when I say this I have watched hundreds, maybe even thousands of videos and your videos are the best out there. I appreciate your honesty and the content you share. Thank you very much. I started a year ago and though you didn't cover what a death pile is, that's exactly what I ended up with and with that being said I got overwhelmed and stopped listing but after watching your video today I am putting your system into place and will start my draft bank and keep my listings consistent each day. Thank you again.
Hello, great intro. On shipping policy, I see you do not select COMBINED SHIPPING DISCOUNTS. I know those come from opting into Shipping Preferences-->Allow combined payments and shipping-> Combined payments. What are your thoughts opting into Shipping Preferences-->Allow combined payments and shipping-> Combined payments
Just got done watching your beginning on EBAY. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I am looking forward to begin selling with just the things I tried selling in a very unsuccessful garage sale. You did a great job!! Looking forward to watching part 2.
Ive sold about 450 items on ebay in the last two years. After watching some of your shorts my next time in a good will i picked up two curling irons- one a beachwaver limited edition color with none listed and like 7 sold- 75 dollars or so average price paid 7. Wild lol
When it comes to the boxes, you mention getting them from other retail locations. What about the product labels and stamping on the boxes? Does that make a difference and do you have to remove and hide the labeling?
What I worry about selling on Ebay are doing returns, refunds, and dealing with more complicated issues, say like a scammer or somebody who gives you negative feedback.
i've had my share of those problems when I first started years ago, but I do not accept returns and EBay has backed me on the couple of issues that have come up. I did get scammed by a few because I was so excited to sell. Take lots of good clear photos. Look your items over in bright daylight or use daylight bulbs in your lighting if in the basement.
Can you update the weight and dimensions, after buyer has paid, before you mail it out? I seem to over charge a lot for shipping since my very first package I owned extra on shipping. A lot of the times I feel like I should give them a refund on shipping. Most of the time I don't know what size box I'm going to have on hand and how much packing material I'm going to use when I list the item
Please make a part two! Invaluable info here. I am just starting out. I’ve made 9 sales in the past 3 weeks and I’m loving it. Getting so much info from your videos. Thank you!!
One of the best beginner Ebay videos I have seen. Great info and you are easy to watch and listen to. Info was just the right "size" to consume and retain. Thanks!
I just started trying to sale stuff on Ebay yesterday literally... I sold my first item in less than a couple of hours, I was so EXCITED! And very nervous because I didn't want to mess anything up and had literally no idea what I was doing... I'm still super confused if I'm being honest haha. Anyway, they ordered it on Saturday night, wasn't able to send it until Monday obviously - I used a used box, it looked pretty rough but hey it worked, took me an hour to tape it the way I wanted, the tape wanted to fight with me LOL! And I used a ton of bubble wrap I already had on hand... after getting paid around 18 dollars, the shipping fee, ebay fees, gas dropping the item off, this isn't counting the tape and bubble wrap, I ended up making a whopping 2 dollars HAHAHAHA! I still want to do this so bad. I never had a damn thing growing up and I don't wanna work my life away. Thank you SO much for being real and taking your time to explain things! I truly wish I would of watched your videos before I ever posted my first listings Saturday night. I'm so stressed out now, I just lost my job and I'm hoping and praying I can make this work and some other hustles I'm working on. As a single mom I gotta get it together and make something happen. Thanks again for what you do, I'm sure I'm not the only one who is truly grateful for your input and expertise!
The most difficult part is starting, once you have sold 5 to 10 you realize what people is looking for and what price are they willing to pay. I’ve had some items that left me with 2 dollars profit but also had 50+ dollars profit. Some of them were learnings and some others paid my bills. Congratulations on your new journey 🎉
Hello, how has this journey been going for you so far? I am starting with eBay selling myself. I just became a mom a few months ago and so badly want to be able to stay home with my boy.
I have sold on ebay since it first started just to get a little cash for things I no longer need. So I thought I already knew how it worked. Oh my this was an eye opener! ,This was fascinating and I learned so much! Thanks!
I have been doing eBay for a while but mostly as a hobby. Since I have retired I have been wanting to become more serious ad make a full time income. You have been so very helpful! Thank you!
Please show what a sold item looks like without compromising privacy. You weighed your completed package again, but where does that go? You can tell I'm really new. Do you put the same dimensions for polymailers as boxes?
Thank you so much for creating this video. I learned so much! For beginners like me, these informations are really vital to our success in this business. More Blessings to you and your family!
I have a question. If you're looking up an item that was sold and you're living in America it will probably say free shipping. What if you're not living in America and say you're living in Canada and you look up that item that was sold it's going to change the shipping fee. So how do you know how much the item actually has sold for if one is saying free shipping and the other is saying there was shipping fees you cannot even tell where the item was sold to so you won't know if it was sold with free shipping in America or maybe it was sold with shipping fees to Mexico
When eBay first started years ago I had a route of about 17 thrift stores in Miami that I was able to pay my bills and did pretty well.
Yes Please! Definitely make more Beginner videos. Thankyou Jake.
The best video on beginning selling that I have ever seen on youtube
I'd love a video #2 and #3! This was really concise and super helpful.
I love how articulate, detailed, and methodical you are. Great video.
This was amazingly organized and helpful! We would LOVE a part two!!
Thanks for your help, I’m 2 months in.
What are your results I’m planning on starting somewhere next week
WOW what content. I have to say that you really broke this down. Having been in sales my whole life, you really did cover a lot of interesting items and how it is a numbers game. No matter if you are selling wine or on Ebay its all sales and consistency is the key. Thank you for sharing....Remember people its a job and it takes dedication.
I would like more info on how you store and inventory items. With thousands of items listed, how do you find the item that has sold?
Yes, please do a part 2. A buyer asked me about combined shipping and I didn't know what it was.
Thanks for all that valuable information information Jake, I hope enough people want to see videos 2, 3 & 4
Do you have to buy a label for 3 dollars off of eBay to ship a card?
Jake Rider this was the most helpful information I’ve seen over my days of research. THANK YOU for taking the time to help us newbies understand how to get our side gig going.
Perhaps the best tip was quick listing / Bank via sell similar and RETURNS. Off to adjust my settings. Will be tuning into to more of your videos.
Did you sell the BLUE KITCHEN AID MIIXER? 🙂
I quit my job at USPS to do this full time, and thats 100% how they handle packages lol
Great video thank you - with the shipping you didn't cover the International Shipping - will you be covering that in another video please ? Thank you.
You can do this!
@@mousepolice55 You can do this too!
God bless us all , and we can do it ,
Especially with the price of food and everything going up ,
I've sold on ebay since 2006 , part-time, but then in 2014, we lost our youngest child & only daughter who loved helping me dress the mannequins, etc.
I fell off deep , but due to our economy I have so much to sell NEW & USED , I'm trying once again , I only have 31 items up and try daily to list , with the holidays its been extremely hard .
God bless you all
Josette
Montgomery County, Texas 🙏 ❤
I trust you started already. You put it out here, so we are praying to keep it up. Are you full time yet?
Hi , I would love to watch a second part of this video.
My favorite channel HANDS DOWN!!! You’re an amazing dude! ❤❤❤
Wow, thanks! I really appreciate that!
The information on sell through rate is great but you aren’t ticking the “pre-owned” box while looking items up and that is very important if you ask me
I go to storage auctions. And if you know what you’re looking for what you want you can pretty much tell if the storage unit is worth the money.
I am only partway through, but this is awesome and I want to say thank you. I am Starting with my house as a thrift store! Partner and combined household last year and there are just so so many things to go through from electronics, sporting equipment (so many golf sets), clothes still in packaging, furniture,
Video games, consoles, knickknacks, I mean everything from every category and I have put this off for over a year because I just don’t know where to start or how to price things.
This is a super helpful information. Maybe I will enjoy the process and venture out of thrifting from home after this. Thx will watch your others
Great video! Thank you. I get my bubble wrap from the guitar center dumpster. Nice and clean .
I love your content! It is SO helpful to me and the idea of doing drafts and being consistent is such a great tip! Thank you!
Since you have to make up your money from the unit, researching every item you don't know is the best way to learn new niches because when it's just totes and boxes you never know what your going to get to sell , I've recently learned some new flat ware brands, vintage brooches and hearing aids 🤑🤑🤑 all sold between 140-270
I got some heroine from a storage unit along with narcan
Try the Pink stuff on pots & pans. They come out like new
Never knew these mailing services, including USPS, would heave your packages onto trucks, but it's good to know to protect your items. I've watched a few other TH-cam videos about ebay shipping, etc, but no one ever mentioned this. Good info to know, but hopefully they don't all do this.
Great information. I am not a beginner but was still able to learn a few things I did not know. I am definitely looking forward to more videos like this one. Thank you.
Do you know if you have to buy a label for 3 dollars off of eBay to ship a card? If not how do I do it differently?
Thank you for the advice on the sell through rate. I now use this when thrifting and saving me so much time and money. What a game changer for me!
This is the first video I’ve seen about selling on eBay. Thank you for walking me through it. I feel much better about trying my luck selling. Thanks again!
And I definitely would like to see more videos
Thank you so much for this video. I'm just getting started and truly appreciate the information.
Great useful information, thank you. Looking forward to your thoughts on combined shipping and what to refund to buyer when doing CS.
The very best video. The wall throughs, the advice - you touched on it all just enough....I even took notes...but I'm old. Now for the "nexts." Really, thanks a ton. Especially for the shipping policies and the "save for laters."
Would you ever do an analysis on another eBay store? I’ve listed 110 items and made some sales but would like to know where I can improve
Great video. Thank you so much for helping me learn how to launch my Ebay business. There was a ton here I didn't know.
Question: You talk about having a draft bank but why aren't you just scheduling the listings?
Just watched your beginners guide to ebay and just with what I can remember & what I wrote down, I my head is spinning with all of the quality info. I didn't know. Thank you and please..... Please keep it up!!
thanks for the video and great info. do i need to show the income when i file the tax. does the e-bay send anything each time when we sell anything. do we need any license.
I only wish I would have known all this information before I started selling on Ebay over a year ago.
Good video!
I know those come from opting into Shipping Preferences-->Allow combined payments and shipping->
Combined payments. What are your thoughts opting into Shipping Preferences-->Allow combined payments and shipping->
Combined payments
Just got done watching your beginning on EBAY. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I am looking forward to begin selling with just the things I tried selling in a very unsuccessful garage sale. You did a great job!! Looking forward to watching part 2.
Ive sold about 450 items on ebay in the last two years. After watching some of your shorts my next time in a good will i picked up two curling irons- one a beachwaver limited edition color with none listed and like 7 sold- 75 dollars or so average price paid 7. Wild lol
Never understood the sell through rate, you just explained it very well, research is key! You are smart
I appreciate the tips…I’m actually on week 2 of selling, started with selling all my old video games from home!
You are absolutely amazing !! I love ❤️ you and your channel !!! Thank you for sharing with those of us who are new to EBay !!
If using calculated shipping, when making the item listing don’t we need to have the exact box dimensions we would use when actually shipping?
Thank you!
I'd love to know how to combine shipping on ebay🙏
Tips all the way to master! Can’t believe how easy it is to watch your videos from beginning to end. Thank you.
Please show what a sold item looks like without compromising privacy. You weighed your completed package again, but where does that go? You can tell I'm really new. Do you put the same dimensions for polymailers as boxes?
Thanks for your video. Concise, easy to follow and just great content.
Thank you so much for creating this video. I learned so much! For beginners like me, these informations are really vital to our success in this business. More Blessings to you and your family!
Most of my best sourcing lately has been abandoned storage unit auctions.
I fell into that. Over bought when I first started. I was buying everything unopened
