I’ve been doing eBay for years, and used to work for eBay customer support in several departments…this advice is solid and some of the best I’ve heard. 👍
Great vid. Great advice. Starting reselling last August. Now I make more than a living doing this part time. Was not easy but all the negative experiences were learning lessons. Life changing advice in this video. Keep up the good work!
I’ve been reselling for 6 months. Love the great advice you always give with a bit of realism is amazing. I’ve been overspending the last couple months but this month I’ve been much better with working on my big deaths pile. Everybody keep up the good work. God Bless all. (“Life hack” I love that, it’s great)
Im at a moment where I needed to hear that end part of the video. Been going for half a year now and the inconsistency hits a little different sometimes but still getting a 60% sell through rate on my items so reading the numbers to trust the process is a big help! Appreciate the time you put into these videos man! Love it
Oh man thank you. I currently have over 150 filler drafts that I just know are not worth the time to make live. But was told I need to list X a day so I spent the time to make those drafts to play with the algorithm. I am going to come out with my unique hard hitters that I know will sell. Then be stupid careful with shipping on items that should be sold with local pickup. You so just saved me tons of work and headaches. Thank you
I hear you on the free shipping aspect, makes sense, but I would think certain situations call for buyer pays shipping. When do you recommend free shipping vs buyer paid shipping? TIA🙏🏻🙏🏻
if you buy a lot of cds with some valuable ones an a bunch of non valuable ones you can lot up the non-valuable ones and sell the valuable ones separately. put the lots of low quality stuff on sale to clear it from your inventory
“You gotta do things differently than the people who are failing” - I like this, seems like such obvious advice but important nonetheless to always keep in mind. Thanks for the vid. 😊
I had a terrible day of sourcing this morning. I went to thrift stores from 9:00 to 3:00 and hardly found anything. Do you think it would it help if I had a list of what to look for before I left?
That's exactly how I started. I would look at my list. Now I'm comfortable enough and quick enough I will grab everything I think is valuable then go look them up. I go aisle by aisle putting the things I don't want back before going to next aisle.
Getting into golf clubs....you literally called me out with that Titleist DCI 4 iron...lol. Love your content man! I've grown so much learning from you!
BTW when the guy switched the belts on the VHS that wasnt a scam that was a theft. A scam would suggest you made a stupid move and got scammed.. thats not what you did. food for thought.
Hello, I am a new reseller. I have over come the shipping fear. I understand it and try my best to try the best shipping rate for my buyers. The thing I’m having trouble with now is very low sales. I need the understanding of sell through rate ( STR). For the life of me I cannot get my brain to wrap around it!! And I’m an intelligent woman but what the heck!!! I understand you and your logic and you are always spot on!! Can you please help me in this difficult for me issue? I know this is probably hurting me and keeping my sales low. Please help me. I love your channel and your advice. Thank you .
While watching this video you had just finished saying "What items are in demand" and I heard the "cha-ching" on my phone. I looked and it was a pair of brand new with tags Speedo Men's swim shorts size large. America is in a heat wave. People are hitting the water. I paid $6 for them and they sold for $22.50. $15 profit all day.
What would you say to a buyer with these questions about a listed item? "Good Morning When you remove the lens from the camera body and shine an led flashlight through the lens itself does the glass look clear all the way through? Is there a white substance around the interior walls of the lens? Does the lens focus ring and aperture ring move smoothly? Are there scratches on the lens glass? Does the camera body film advance lever work smoothly? Is the view through the eyepiece cloudy or clear. Thank You j j" I just replied, sorry I can't address all the questions you asked, but item is tested and working". Was I wrong?
My return rate is about 2.5% all clothing. I agree the amount of feedback as well as not negotiating with terrorists and keeping emotion out of business are key. People get so strangely attached to items and returns just tear them up. Good business people set aside emotion and “just do it”. The key to success starts with a w. What is that word? WORK! I have Ben on eBay for 25 years but only took it seriously two years ago when I decided to retire from a “regular” Job. 🎉
So what is in demand? Do you have sources you use to find “in demand” products? I thought you were going to set up a link for that video you did a while back, something about 10,000 ….
Horrible question incoming and ready to face the masses. Helping my mom clear out a bunch of stuff and I have a tub of ....beanie babies 😱. I see that ebay is flooded with these and I've sorted out the "top" ones but is the $10 avg price and horrible sell through rate worth it?
No just sell them in huge lots, or contact your local emergency department and see if the fire fighters or medics would like them to give to kids while on calls. I do that here, when I amass too much low end plush.
I agree with everything except free returns. I don't allow free returns and have a return rate of about 1%, instead of 4%. While you can resell a return in most cases, you are eating the shipping costs of the initial sale. Without free returns, I'm still listing/selling 1:1. Good sell through rate negates the need to offer free returns.
Best video ever...it's so sad to see so many "the sky is falling" videos on TH-cam complaining about ebay. I always wonder--Why are you selling on ebay if it's so bad? Haha
Listen to you about profit, then why do we get told to start out selling from within our home when all the crap we have is low profit margin and no sell through rate. I feel like people want new people to fail to keep us out.
Talking about conspiracy… Until last week, I thought that Ebay or other platforms knew somehow that I leave my state/country, because I would have really bad weeks/months, and the second I get on the plane, sales go through the roof lol it was happening that many times, that my sister told me to go for vacation more often lol But turned out, that I simply started choosing better inventory and listing consistently and I feel like that sales are more consistent now, even when I am home 😂😂😂 P.S. love your videos, learned a lot from them. Hoping to see you one day sourcing in Vegas 😜
I have been watching you since video 1, back when you were asking for subscribers and hoping to be monetized someday! That said… I definitely remember you saying “before you started your TH-cam channel, you’d joined the technsports/daily refinement group to have a built-in audience for your TH-cam channel…but you knew all that content already”. Really? Perhaps you should’ve studied extras sessions of the shipping calls…so you could figure out how to get stuff out on time? Pride comes before destruction… #letsmakeamericatopratedagaun
It all depends on your category. Some categories you can buy a bunch of stuff and just list hundreds of quality items and get instant sales if priced correctly. Other categories you have to really find the right items to list such as in clothing, toys, video games, etc.....
Total spaghetti throwing contest. Name of the game is to get it listed with as little detail as possible. 2-3 pics and the bare min details filled in. If problems arise after the sale you pay them to ship it back. No need for measurements or testing anything not with free returns covering you. Who cares if you are driving good customers off the platform? Not like you own ebay stock. Once you master this system you make sure you live in an area full of old and dead people who donate great items to Thrift Stores. That means Utah or some isolated village in the Bible Belt. Beyond that you will always be paddling against the current. In this case you will need to get even more trim in the way you throw your pasta. You have a big future being a lowballer. Automating your skimming to snag more and more sellers trying to do it the old way. As they stew in tradition you swoop in and provide solutions to their death piles.

Your advice was what I needed to hear as social media can make selling on Ebay a real downer. As a beginner I don't need that. Thanks so much.
i couldn’t imagine the type of bs u had to deal with on the phone with people😂

For your second point, double your items doubled sales IS how the math works out as long as all purchases are made with the same STR standards
I plan to get deal soldier soon. Thanks for all your vids! You are one of my favorites. 🐐

Nice job, Jake! Your best video so far (in a long line of terrific videos!)

Can you do a video explaining the ebay algorithm as best you can... i know it is complex and ebay doesnt share much about it...?
Where’s your eBay store link?
When he says average, does he mean just a regular average? As in the sum in dollars divided by the amount of items?
What would you say to a buyer with these questions about a listed item? "Good Morning
When you remove the lens from the camera body and shine an led flashlight
through the lens itself does the glass look clear all the way through?
Is there a white substance around the interior walls of the lens?

I didn’t list anything for 3 weeks after barely missing a day for months. My sales stayed almost exactly the same.

My return rate is 6.84% it seems high but I sell used electronics that have a high return rate what do you think ? Will my sales be slowed down ?
That was me it was so much fun. Cut myself off since I have so much stuff.
Northern Utah has been good, but definitely have to chase

What people don't remember is your write off miles and gas on taxes. Also we don't get paid hourly, so its a mute point to figure out hourly wage.
I have 44 good feedback and no scammers. I think they just stopped after a few months like 4 or 5 months of me selling.
I’m sorry but what did you mean by ‘charged fees on the taxes?’
eBay charges 13ish percent on the total purchase price including shipping and taxes
Yes, and they collect taxes on behalf of states that aren't legally allowed to collect taxes because they don't have a business presence in the state.

Every estate sale or garage sales over ever been to has profitable fast moving items. There’s a high likelihood you’ve got them too
Why does ebay charge so many fees, but mecari has none of those?
