I'm not sure sub 5 is possible because the end level cutscene to the castle is longer and some glitches don't work anymore. But if it is, guys like Darbian will be among the first to see if it's possible, and then be among the first to do it.

How do you like the control of All stars compared to the NES version?
Why don't you just improve the record greatly only using small mario or do you have to get fire??
A Random Speed Cuber fire is faster in this version because of bigger hitboxes and a few other minor reasons

Back bumps, wall jumps, the wall clip in 1-2, the wrong warp in 8-4 and the 4-2 wrong warp all still work in this game?

Darb how come u don't kill bowser at the end with flower power? Doesn't that save significant time?
Timing ends upon touching the axe in 8-4. The reason you fire kill bowser in other situations is to skip the cutscene that plays after touching the axe, but for the final Bowser in a category there's no benefit to skipping that cutscene since the timer has stopped.

what's the main difference between the 2?
Why does he get the fire flower in the All Star version? Runners don't in the NES/Famicon version.
Fireflower makes the run faster for a few reasons. The first is that we'd already need to get at least a mushroom in order to do that clip at the end of 1-2. The second is that the hitboxes of enemies are larger in the SNES version, making the jumps off of pipes with piranha plants in them much more challenging. Having fire allows you to kill the plants without slowing down. The third is that in World 8-4, the plant in the pipe in the first room does not disappear, so without fire you'd have to wait for it to go down. The same applies in the following room - the plant in the mid-air pipe always spawns, so without fire you'd have to wait there too.

What does "All Stars" mean?
"Super Mario All-Stars" is a compilation of Super Mario Bros. 1/2/3/Lost Levels released for the Super Nintendo with updated graphics. There are some differences in these updated versions of the game that affect the speedrun, so we have a separate leaderboard for these versions.
does the all stars version of SMB 1 still have the wall glitch at the end of 1-2 where you slide through the brick wall to enter the warp zone? also, are the 'minus levels' still accessible? new sub here. huge fan of mario, and loving your runs. Takes talent.
The parallax on 8-3 messes with my eyes for some reason. If I was a speed runner I'd hate it.

Yeah I know that but what are the differences in mean. Does this have a slower run speed? Have some tactics been removed?
If I had to guess, it looks like the hitboxes have been improved for the Piranha Plants, so you can't jump through them like on the original NES. That's why he gets fire, rather than staying small the entire time.
That's just a guess though, so if I'm wrong, someone please correct me.
Generally speaking this version is more unforgiving with hitboxes and other things, and there are less glitches to exploit.
Also the flag cutscene is longer along with other things taking longer

This is the Super Mario All-Stars version released for the Super Nintendo. There are enough differences in the gameplay to justify treating it as a separate category with its own leaderboard.

Is it possible to speedrun this version in a "small" Mario form?
Эдуард Кусмауль if you do, you have to use the axe thing for Bowser. the animation will generally take longer compared to if you had just hit him to death
Эдуард Кусмауль you also have to wait for certain enemies, like koopas on stairs or piranhas in pipes
Bowser really only matters for Warpless runs, as the time ends when they hit the axe, so the extra animation time won't matter.
Main reason is because the hitboxes are larger in the SNES version, making some jumps and strategies not possible the same way as on NES.

How come the fire touches you on the last level but you don't take a hit?
If you land while swimming, duck and keep holding down, your hitbox will stay at the same size as when you were ducking, making the upper body invincible.

Can someone please explain 1:57? What does this move do?
Normally you need to hit a block to make a vine appear, which will take you to the warp zone. But if you change the camera position a bit, which is what that move does, you can trick the game into thinking that the pipe will take you there instead.
