The animated speedrun wasn't based on a real run. Well, there are glitches shown from it but they're from the NES versions and not the All-Stars version.

When I was watching live I thought you were just aiming to improve your PB, I didn't realize that you were confused on the WR record time. It was hilarious to see you realize it =) And watching this back, it's amazing how much room there is for improvement - looking forward to see your run this category again sometime (maybe after you snag that FDS LL WR)

Yeah, his heart rate rarely drops below 80... that's... awfully high for a resting rate.
Luna Smith 90-100 is a perfectly healthy resting rate. Only runners and old people start to drop below 80 while resting.
It's not to be silly, but how we can see his heart rate ?

One mans journey to achieve every world record.
Here’s an explanation for the 4-2 warp in a pipe instead of the sky in SMB1.
In the game, the Mario sprite is 112 pixels to the right when moving right. If you jump on just the right area of the pipe, the sprite will no longer be 112 pixels to the right like it should. The game doesn’t know how to respond to this, so it takes you to the previous location. Speedrunners have used this 112 pixel glitch to finish faster. Darbian also uses this is the NES version of SMB1, since it has the same pixel rules. I recommend watching a video showing a mod of the fans that replaces the time counter with the pixel count for better understanding, it’s somewhere on TH-cam.

How do you make so many time-costly speed-running errors and still get a world record?? Just ask darbian. That run just gave me chills, man!!!! Excellent work. Keep posting great runs in the future when you are up to the challenge! :)
The run just isn't super optimized yet, but runs like this lower it over time and after a while it does become really optimized. It's fun to see the progression over a period of years. For instance, these days any of the top Super Mario Bros. runners could sit down and beat the time that stood as the record in 2013 in one evening most likely. Players just get better, new tricks are found and everything becomes faster.
darbian That's true. But it was so funny to see you stumble a lot and still you got a world record...I would be lying to you if I told you I could ever come within 10 minutes of what you were able to do. It's that good IMO for an error-filled run like that.

It is actually a whole diffrent game reskinned for american audience. Lost levels is the real smb2

Yes, but it was during early development that they decided to make totally diffrent game, and smb2 is just a alterned version of already final product, thus the different look :)
Could you do a "Vs. Super Mario Bros" speed run? I'm curious how your time compares to the regular and what glitches you can achieve in that version.

smb2 was my first nes game. These glitches lol. I'm surprised he doesn't use the trick that if you jump super close to an enemy you can get way more height.

There any reason in particular for that path through SMB2? Wouldnt it be faster to go 1 - 4 - 7 instead of 1 - 4 - 3 - 5 - 7?

So, when he takes a hit and the character sprite goes invisible (like against Bowser in smb)... Is that an artifact of the capturing process and darb can actually see the character, or is the character actually invisible?

The game runs at 60, he goes invisible every other frame, since 30 fps shows every other frame, you're either going to see a solid Mario or invisible, but never flickering
If you change your quality to 720p60 you will stop seeing Mario disappear.
Does the All-Stars version of smb1 also have framerules?
Why in 8-1 a jungle in smb3? The volcano background is much better.
Same in 8-2 why is the background grassland?

I thought the warp on W1-3 on SMB2 went to W4??
It does. When you load a saved game in All-Stars it lets you choose which level to start on (excluding levels that you haven't yet made it to). By saving after warping to world 4, I can then start on any level prior to world 4, so I can return to world 3.
