The animated speedrun wasn't based on a real run. Well, there are glitches shown from it but they're from the NES versions and not the All-Stars version.
When I was watching live I thought you were just aiming to improve your PB, I didn't realize that you were confused on the WR record time. It was hilarious to see you realize it =) And watching this back, it's amazing how much room there is for improvement - looking forward to see your run this category again sometime (maybe after you snag that FDS LL WR)
Here’s an explanation for the 4-2 warp in a pipe instead of the sky in SMB1. In the game, the Mario sprite is 112 pixels to the right when moving right. If you jump on just the right area of the pipe, the sprite will no longer be 112 pixels to the right like it should. The game doesn’t know how to respond to this, so it takes you to the previous location. Speedrunners have used this 112 pixel glitch to finish faster. Darbian also uses this is the NES version of SMB1, since it has the same pixel rules. I recommend watching a video showing a mod of the fans that replaces the time counter with the pixel count for better understanding, it’s somewhere on TH-cam.

The run just isn't super optimized yet, but runs like this lower it over time and after a while it does become really optimized. It's fun to see the progression over a period of years. For instance, these days any of the top Super Mario Bros. runners could sit down and beat the time that stood as the record in 2013 in one evening most likely. Players just get better, new tricks are found and everything becomes faster.
darbian That's true. But it was so funny to see you stumble a lot and still you got a world record...I would be lying to you if I told you I could ever come within 10 minutes of what you were able to do. It's that good IMO for an error-filled run like that.

It does. When you load a saved game in All-Stars it lets you choose which level to start on (excluding levels that you haven't yet made it to). By saving after warping to world 4, I can then start on any level prior to world 4, so I can return to world 3.

Yeah, his heart rate rarely drops below 80... that's... awfully high for a resting rate.
Luna Smith 90-100 is a perfectly healthy resting rate. Only runners and old people start to drop below 80 while resting.
