Considering the price of Mudita Pure (370 USD), I guess it will cost at least 500, which is in my opinion a little too much for such a device. But it probably makes some sense as an alternative to LightPhone, another niche product in the niche of e-ink devices.
I think you are right. I don't see this phone costing less than $400. It will be a very niche group who will want this device. So much competition is out there for eink phones in the coming months.
@@sergio0483 i think the fair price for a thing like these was 150/140€... cause its basically a phone that everyone should use if they want minimalism... and do not care about a phone.... so affordable should be the case... the phone also lacks big tech (cause minimalism) so there is no really justification for the price they are charging...
@@matthewpringle1978 The irony that a simple distraction free device such as this, which youd assume would have low performance is on par price wise with a decent performing phone. If it costs $500, might as well buy an iphone 13 mini lol
I truly agree with the concern that this device is being marketed as a e-reader while at the same time having a screen that would not seem ideal for that purpose. Personally, I love the idea of an eink phone, and one with a small screen, more in keeping with it being a tool rather than an entertainment device. Why would one want a very large e-ink screen if you are not playing games, viewing videos, or looking at color photos? On the other hand, if I want to sit down and read a book, I would want a larger screen for visual comfort, lower eye strain, and less page turning. I guess the question is: are these 2 ideas -- a minimal "tool" phone, and an e-reader more for entertainment -- compatible? Is a screen too small to be a good e-reader screen, but larger than you need for digital minimalism, actually a compromise that negates it's effectiveness in either role?
This is a very philosophical approach and has me really thinking more about this s devices and it's purpose. The apps suggest it is a tool of course but the apps they want to add suggest it could also be used for offline entertainment purposes. I will approach it as a phone but society has engrained the need to want a phone to do everything and it's a hard habit to break. Thanks for the thought provoking comment!
@@LauraMalvoyante I don't have a Boox Palma, but as a user do you see the Kompakt as a replacement? Supplement? I wonder if one would be able to sync apps on them (for progress on a book, for instance)?
I LOVE my Remarkable 2. My wife and I just had our first kid so I'm already thinking that it would be great to get him some e-ink device when he's old enough instead of something like an iPad. I can say from my own personal experience I'd always prefer e-ink/paper-like displays for how it impacts my brain when using a device.
@@MattTheriot this is a great idea. My son just turned 4 and I think I will get him an e-ink device when he shows interest in tech. I am also trying to think what his first phone will be down the road 😄

How is this different from old analog phones that are still in the market? I mean except for the e-ink feature ofc. Way too pricey for a basic necessity phone.
@@errole You can't easily. But many dumb phones have very basic email, or you can use the browser if you really want to.... But you can't on this Mudita Kompakt phone either.
Very excited for this phone. It seems the ideal size and feature set for a minimal device. I love compact phones. While big phones are better for web browsing and social media, I want to avoid carrying those around in my pocket. Great job Mudita! Compact cell phones are so practical. Around 5.5 screen size is excellent and very pocketable. Great video and informative thx!

Exactly. You can get a minimal phone for $20-$30

It is a good size for a digital minimalism device. Fingers crossed that it will not have major design changes!
Can I ask: what is the benefit of this compared to buying for instance an old blackberry etc... I have a boox palma and that is already small
It is a lot smaller than the Palma. I think the advantage is that it's a an e-ink phone. Also the security/privacy features are a big focus.
Lightphone or kompakt? Which is gonna be better ???
That's a hard choice 🤔
The Palma would be a great phone
I'm sad the Boox Palma 2 is not a phone.
I love their product design, but I don't trust a company that sells a $200 eink clock to price this reasonably
Very true. If the clock is $200, imagine how much this phone will cost 🫣

Ahhh good catch, I have no idea how I did that.

No it wont have messenger
Can mudita block unknown number except contact without manual entry number ?
Good question. I don't know but it would be useful given all the spam calls we all receive. This is a big issue for many of my dumbphones.
