When I started learning the piano 10 years ago, I believed I'd never be able to play this piece. Now, after much practising, I can confirm that is correct.
Erik C 'Piano Man' of course it‘s Hamelin. I always stumble upon these amazing recordings and can‘t comprehend how he can have such a huge and difficult repertoire :O
MrBromaba he’s only a genius having super high sight reading skills and a perfect control of the hands. he could play everything you want with mirrored motion of hands. he is like a left-handed: the skills of the left are slightly better than the skills of the right hand.
The Tom and Jerry one was a different arrangement--by Jacob Gimpel,I think. This transcription was made famous by Josef Lhevinne;Hamelin does a great job here, this sort of piece really suits him.😊😊🎹🎶
I didn't even look at who the pianist was when I began listening to it and after about a minute, I whispered to myself "of course this HAS to be Hamelin" LOL
Oh finally someone made this video, I have looked for it like 1000 times. And it´s even with Hamelin´s recording, which is by far the best... Thank you very much!
My gosh, he adds notes that aren’t in the score. Aren’t there enough already? This is my favorite recording by far of this wonderful transcription. Thank you!
OMG! That ... was ... ... ... incredible. I think ti surpasses J. Lhevinne as my favorite. Astounding! A pianist's pianist! Thank you for posting this, though the performer's name deserves inclusion in the title of your post!
Not really though. Many romantic composers used key signatures such as g flat major or f sharp major (or their relative minors) Take a look at things like liszts Hungarian rhapsody #2. The friska section is all written in f sharp major. Or Chopins butterfly and black key etudes are both in g flat major. Among many others like parts of liszts b minor sonata or Chopin nocturne in f sharp major.
@@Andrew.Helmick he said MORE than 6 sharps/flats though, and he is right- pieces with 7 sharps (C-Sharp major/A-Sharp minor) or 7 flats (C-flat major/A-Flat minor) are very rare.
My first hearing of this was the Ampico piano roll version recorded by Josef Lhevinne - that was fabulous, but Hamelin here is just superb, and it's a more musical interpretation.
I wonder how Marc André can learn always new repertoire, have concerts and compose... And after all this, doing all of them very very good. How, where and when????
@@AnatoArchives It could be an unpublished recording (not the first time someone post unpublished recordings). Or could even not be MAH, but someone else recording (also not the first time, as this is not MAH official channel). This recording completely lacks the liveliness of a live recording beyond any doubt. It's easy to recognize this if you have been to a decent amount of concerts. Also no clapping at the end. This is really suspicious as usually the audience explode at the end of pieces like this. And on top you NEVER hear not even once the audience during 11 minutes of recording and have 0 background noise. This cant be a live recording, definetly a studio rec.
@@thePsykomanteum There is no complete recording of the piece arranged by Jakop Gimpel but if you compare the sections that are the same, the arpegios are a bit longer and faster if thats what you mean.

Your comment had me in stitches. Thanks for brightening up my day!
I laughed hella hard hahahha
There is nothing impossible. Just give it a try and see how things go. After all, music is all about enjoying what you’re playing.
You made me laugh so hard.
Hamelin touch is truly something else.
I can’t imagine a cleaner/transparent recording of this piece. Wonderful playing as always.

Check out Dora Deliyska's recording of it. It's now the standard against which all others can be judged.
@@dalezalewski7759 Doesn't really float my boat, but worth a listen - also worth a look for the, er, distinctive piano she plays :-)

True
Josef Lhevinne is the best of this
I remember trying to learn this piece. Took me 12 days... to find all my fingers again.
Finally! I heard this on Tom and Jerry.

I adore this piece. I absolutely love the first 6 or so pages. Marc Andre Hamelin plays them so lightly, with such clarity.

beautiful arrangement so lifeful charming dynamic energetic
This is actually comparable to Lhevinne's recording (which is on TH-cam now) - and you can't often say that !
