@MJ H Their performance of Ten Years Gone , reinforces this as well . I've always thought Zep live just paled in comparison to their studio stuff. 3 pieces wasn't enough to do the studio versions justice .
I remember seeing this when it aired in 2000. I was blown away that they played such a classic song that 25 years old at that point. Great performance. Rock solid as always.
I saw them both nights at the Greek Theater in October 99 and they really outperformed those nights.the air floated on their energy, Jimmy felt the music for the first time in years (decades?), and the Crowes appreciated being the body of the the greatest music in Rock history. Even Chris was top of his game and Rich really played as his heart led him. It was a very short lived idea that worked - at least for those two beautiful, tranquil-sky evenings in Hollywood in 1999.
I would point out there are TWO additional guitars to support Jimmy Page here... there where Page did this by all by himself back in '75. Page is the original 800lb. gorilla guitar GOD!
Yeah. But we should give credit to the Black Crows. They're great in their own right! I can't believe how perfectly that drummer nailed it. They should've used him in the re-formed Led Zeppelin sometimes too. He is awesome!
Like someone else said, how did I miss this at the time? I know, I was starting a new life in Vancouver and caught on to Dave Matthews. Wanton Song. What a hard core rocker! One of my favourites! From the apex of Zepp, Physical Graffiti.
@@Cagney68 Page told Rich he had some song ideas and thought the band could work those out and maybe tour behind it. Rich said they didn't need his help. I actually stopped following Zep when Physical Graffiti came out. Loved their 1st 5 albums much much more. Very creative. I just thought they had lost their creative idea at that point. More just heavy rock at that point.

The Crowes are having a blast playing Zeppelin tunes! What a great gig man.
When Jimmy Page writes a riff/song/chord progression, the Gods stop what they are doing and listen.
Yes!
The Gods call Jimmy ‘Sir’.
Hell yeah
BS
The multiple guitars live really helps the depth on songs like this since Jimmy multi-tracked guitars on Wanton Song and many others in the studio
Good point.
Yes,first thing I noticed too..Got me thinking if Zep had had three guitarists playing live who would have been the best fit.

And then the Crowes guitarist told him they didn't have much use for his lead skills either, thus ending that. Nice going, Rich.
