  • In this video I build the Tamiya Motorized Support Legs and install them on a Tamiya Fuel Tank Trailer. There are two parts to the installation: 1. Installing parts of the leg kit on a trailer and 2. Installing parts of the leg kit on a semi tractor truck. This video focuses on the installation of the leg kit that requires a trailer. In an upcoming Part 2, we will install the remaining pieces of the kit onto a Tamiya Cascadia Evo which is currently in mid build. More on this later...

Its nice having a thorough video like this for the folks that need those step by step instructions. Very nice Freddy, great explanation, like those little details about having the notch on the motor facing the right way

Thank you! Based on the instruction manual I'm even happier that I went through this process. Hopefully it will be a help to many.

I would highly recommend that the all the wire connections be soldered. The Tamiya method for the battery box connections has the potential for intermittent contact

Thanks for the tip Kevin!! All in all I think you're right. I'm finding the way they have you attach the wires to the battery box is a bit weak. In fact I'm not finding that the rubber tubing even stays on...it's quite loose. So yes, this is probably the best way to go.

Great video, I am starting with my first ever build doing a Maersk 40ft trailer. Thankfully I built the leg kit first because I like yourself I found that the instructions are not entirely correct and contradict each other.

Thank you!! And nice! That's a really nice trailer you've got there! It's quite surprising how the instructions don't really compliment each other. The rigs really require you to have some overall intuitive building knowledge above and beyond the instructions.

Thinking of Tamiya putting screws in one bag which only differ on one or two millimetres (even in beginner models) and not having a 1:1 parts-list is pure horror. Thanks for showing the build👍

I completely agree. I was really shocked.

@@FastFreddyRC At least they put the dimensions into the sketches. But for the money those semis cost, the buyer certainly ca expect more.

Nice Freddy! Good explanation for novices.
However, I can't see me using much of that 1995 technology!!! 😵 That control box, as my English Friends say, is a FAFF! The wiring is questionable, and it looks like it will only work, if Truck and Trailer are nearly dead straight.
It's cool for what it is, but I would have the Legs work off of a switch on Channel 7,8 or 9 on my Transmitter.
And you're right, the manual is SCARY by Tamiya standards!! I'm surprised.

    • @FastFreddyRC

Actually I completely agree with you! The technology for these trucks is completely outdated. I'm shocked that they haven't come out with any updated technology for these. There's been no new trailers, semi's, accessories etc in years. The most modern American style semi was the new Cascadia EVO but that was still in the early 2000's. And to top it off, they just recently cancelled production on that model, the newest looking semi, and I haven't seen any news on whether they will be coming out with more. I know they just released a new European semi that comes out this year so I'm hopeful they will bring out something new for the American marketplace. BUT I think they need to come out with more modern accessories too. I have a Cascadia EVO in mid build and it's at the stage of doing all the tests with the MFC unit which ended up being problematic as the servos weren't working with the system I chose. Working on a solution now but the whole project got shelved as I have other projects on the go that I can actually finish. But I'm close to finally having a semi-truck to showcase on this channel. And when I do have it ready I will be addressing ALL of these issues. People need to know what they are getting into if they way to use all these outdated products.

Yeah.... I LOVE the Cascadia!! Couldn't get it now, even if it were possible.
Last Summer, I got a sizeable Inheritance. In the first 3 weeks, I spent more than $16,000 on RCs!!!!! 😲😁
My Wife cut me off 😒 but then her BRATTY Kids rifled through the REST of it, without my knowledge!! 😡😵🤬🤬🤬🤬
At least I got 4 Buggies, 2 Crawlers, 4 Trail Trucks, FOUR Semis (!!!!), Trailers, a buttload of accessories and details, and 5 Beier Truck Sound/Light Units!! The Beier is 20X better than the Tamiya MFC-01, and $125 LESS!! (They're a subject for another whole conversation, but one thing, you can CHOOSE between 44 different Engine Sounds, 18 different Horns, and all functions are nearly infinitely adjustable!!)
      Plus, one very special Truck...
I'm glad at least that I got the Tamiya AROCS 4151, 8X4 Tipper Truck and Actuator!!! It costs SO MUCH, that I may be one of the few to have one....
A reason to do a FULL, thorough, not time lapse, Build Series. So I can share it with others who want one, but can't. 😊
NOW, I can't even afford CHEESE on my Whopper!!! 😫 The $60,000 Car I bought my Wife with the same money, now costs $125 to freaking fill up!!! 😑 🤬🤬🤬 (DON'T GET POLITICAL Carmine, don't get Political!!)
On Tamiya Semis, here's my 2000-up list.....
What I'd LOVE to see would be a Peterbilt 367, 479 or 579, Conventional, Sleeper AND Day Cab versions.
      Also ... Freightliner M12, 112 and 134.
      Freightliner Cascadia and Columbia.
      International 4700 or 5500.
      Kenworth T370, T680, T800, T880....
MACK - Anthem, Pinnacle or a GR64 M387 TRI-DRIVE-AXLE - just for excitement! (and they look BADASS!!)
Possibly a Western Star.... to get MORE Real Truckers into the Market, lowering Kit cost!! 😁
And MAYBE a Volvo Conventional Sleeper Truck. Just for added market!!
(A lot of Real Truckers buy these Kits!! It would surprise you. I saw my first Tamiya Big Rig at a TRUCK STOP. We go there to eat. Three of them brought out their RC Models, running them in the parking lot! Even playing parking and backing up contests!) 😎👍👍
They all said they want the same three things....
They want DIFFERENT Brands of Rigs.
And more importantly, they HATE that the "45 foot" Box Van and Flatbed only Scales out to 32 feet!!
And it annoys ALL of them, that the King/Grand Hauler Body - is actually a Kenworth Cab, and a Peterbilt Sleeper!!! I actually agree, and now look at my Grand Hauler very differently. 🙄
More experienced Modelers on the TamiyaClub Forums constantly make a challenge of making SCALE LENGTH Trailers, and doing major modifications to the Bodywork.
My God, my Wife is right!!! (Don't tell her)
When discussing the Hobby, I'm more chatty than her 18 year old Daughter!! 😜

Oh, while fresh on my mind, any Servo above 11kg, WILL Brown Out a MFC Unit!! 🙄 Nobody on the TamiyaClub Forums seems to know why.
And that place is a LOT of collective Tamiya Knowledge.

Oh, and the new Semi.... basically a double Drive Axle version of the 4X2 Scania that they came out with in 2006. Love the Scania though. SHOULD have gotten one 😪
AND, should have gotten a Tanker Trailer. 😭😭😭

    • @CarminesRCTipsandTricks
      @CarminesRCTipsandTricks 2 ปีที่แล้ว

OMG!!! 😲 One last thing, and I'll leave you alone! 😊
Me and another guy on the Forum came up with a simple, semi-brilliant idea for Trailer Lighting....
You've seen those cheap Lighting Kits on Evilbay? It comes with a small Control Box, and makes Brake, Reverse and Turn Signal Lights work through your ESC and Steering Servo connectors - with Servo Y-Cables??
Well, bond TWO Receivers to your Transmitter at the same time (it can be done, two Bind Plugs) it's just a little tricky to get the sequence....
Power up both Receivers, THEN Power up the Transmitter, with Bind Button pressed, if your Radio requires...
That's it. One TX, two RX! Both responding to the same commands simultaneously.
      Nothing changes on the Truck....
Mount RX no.2 under the Trailer.
THEN, following the Light Kit instructions, connect the ESC and Steering Servo Leads from the Light Kit, to the appropriate Receiver Channels.
(NO need for Y-Harness, the actual Servo and ESC are irrelevant here)
THEN, all LEDs plug into that Box... remove Headlight Plugs, and all other front Light Plugs. (Also irrelevant)
You should be left with Brake Lights, Reverse Lights, and Rear Turn Signals....
Simply fit those to your rear Bumper. (Unless of course you only have FOUR Lenses. Then leave out Reverse - or make a mounting Bracket somewhere near the center) 😉
THAT'S IT!! The Truck will work like it always had, regardless of if it's basic, MFC-01, Beier or any other...
The SECOND Receiver in the Trailer, will Signal left when you turn left, and vice-versa.
The Brake Light will come on when you apply Brakes.
And if equipped, the Reverse Lights will come on when you back up.....
With ABSOLUTELY NO PHYSICAL CONNECTION TO THE TRUCK!! 😊
      (The power of technology)
The ONLY niggle is, the Trailer will need its own 6 volt power (and NO more)
If you're old enough to remember the days before ESCs with BEC... then you know what a Receiver Battery Pack is.
It's a small Battery Holder, that you clip 4 AA Batteries into. The Holder has a Servo Lead coming out. Plug that into the BAT Plug on your Receiver. (Might also be the BIND Plug)
IF that's the case, and yours uses a Bind Plug - Plug the Battery into ANY other Channel when Binding. Nothing else has to be connected except Bind, and a power source.
You won't have an ESC back there, just the Throttle Output from the Light Box! 😉
If there's ANY part of that you don't get, please ask. We want to spread this around.
.... ESPECIALLY since a TH-cam Channel is taking CREDIT for it, when we've been developing it since 2012, in some form.
      Well, that's life I guess.
Good Night! My old butt is TIRED!

i checked everything again with your video. i did everything correctly or at least exactly like you. but the legs go only down and not up. i bridged the switch too just to look if the switch is broken. but the motor only turn in one way.

    • @FastFreddyRC
      @FastFreddyRC  ปีที่แล้ว

If you think it’s the motor maybe try reversing the polarity of the batteries to see if the motor will spin in the opposite direction. We need to determine if the motor is ok.
