Bought the DMP-A6 about 4 months ago and never looked back. One of my best purchases. The feature, not discussed here, that sealed the deal for me was the fact that you can add an SSD up to 4TB to the underside of the unit. I loaded that SSD up with my entire library of flac files and they all sound great. My system is all solid state, however, looking forward this summer to pick up a tube preamp to help soften the presentation and add some warmth to the sound. Until then, I'm certainly enjoying it immensely.

Anyone planning on using both the XLR and RCA outputs at the same time watch out- the bass on the XLR falls off when you activate both outputs at the same time. It also seems to drop in volume a bit. I could tell something was changing bigtime when I selected RCA/XXLR together, when I turned the subs off II could tell the bass was disappearing from my mains when I switched both outputs on. I wasn't about to attempt to correct this massive problem with EQ so mine went back.
Great review, I'd suggest trying the DMP A8 it made me question the Innuous Zenith value proposition because I just couldn't say the A8 wasn't better. I'm getting one.
Can you near the difference between onboard dac and the r26 when level matched? I very nearly bought an r26 then thought that dacs are likely over hyped. Room and speakers the most difference, then pre amp stage, then amp, then dac.
I have both the DMP-A6 Master and the DMP-A8 and I agreed with your assessment of the of the A6's sound signature. In my secondary system I have the A6 feeding an Advanced Paris A12 integrated that has a tube buffer pre-amp section and its a good pairing. In my reference system I have the A8 feeding an Accuphase E-4000 integrated which was a bettering pairing then the A6 because of the AKM DAC. The A8 replaced a $7k Cary audio DMS-700 digital source and performs at the same level.
Using my A6, connected to a r2r dac and DDC, i2s connected. My preamp does the volume control, which really is music to my ears. A very good value as a transport/streamer.
I have an A6ME. When I feed the stream signal direct to my Cambridge Audio Edge A via Coaxial, thus bypassing the internal DAC of the A6 the sound is very clean and detailed. I wouldn't go as far as to say clinical, however for my ears the sound is a little too clean and sounds like it has a touch of digital glare. It is not my preferred sound and especially with my speakers, which have very revealing ribbon tweeters it's all just a bit much. I would imagine this is entirely down to the DAC inside the Edge A, and nothing to do wit the A6ME. However, when I connect the A6ME to my integrated tube amp via RCA and therefore use the internal DAC, the sound becomes fuller, richer and there is definitely fullness of midrange and bass. Bass becomes a little boomy in fact. It loses that digital glare of solid state and gets the harmonic richness of tubes, which for my old ears, is much easier. There is no listening fatigue at all. That is not to say the internal DAC of the A6ME is perfect, it doesn't have the detail or extended top end of the Cambridge, and the bass is less tight and controlled. Connect the A6ME via coaxial to a high quality DAC such as Gustard R26, which I owned, and you get the high end detail and bass control of the Cambridge, but with the warmth and rich tonal balance of the tubes without any trace of digital. That is my preference all day long. Connect the A6 to a high quality R2R DAC and a tube amp and you'll be in music heaven
I got the A8. It’s fantastic and the DAC is outstanding. My only issue is it puts out some earth noise into my system. Tried everything to get rid of it but no luck. I will put up with that con in order to take advantage of all the pros, especially the DSP features, I love having the PEQ.
Nice review! I use mine on my desktop system with McIntosh MXA70 (McIntosh speakers & a small Paradigm sub) so sweet & warm either using coax or analog out. In this config, the touch screen is awesome. Added a 1TB internal drive and copied all of my music over. Works nicely. What I do like is the integrated Apple Music app. In my personal desktop setup and use, it's near perfect.. YMMV.
Did you notice any difference in sound quality going to an internal drive? I just bought one of these today and was wondering if it was worth my while buying an NVME for it.
@@MickVeemy Master Edition unit turned up yesterday and I put it straight to work. Leaves my previous solution of a nVIDIA Shield Pro TV / Kodi in the dust. My thinking is if the files are on the streamer it can potentially buffer the songs better than waiting for the song to be streamed across the network (assuming it does buffer the song).

Hi Ron, very good video. I have the A6 Master edition and installed the upgraded power supply. I must say this unit is incredibly smooth with great sound stage and not bright. One thing I stumbled on to was I tried the Apple Music app. Well it totally opened a new window and improved everything with the streaming of the music. I canceled my Qobuz and Tidal subscriptions. I was floored but the sound quality of streaming the losses stream. I was not expecting that. I also dropped my Roon subscription as well. I must say this streamer is a gem and is not over hyped. menu navigation is so simple not sure why anyone would have issues.
agree apple lossless sounds a lot smoother but you do lose high end detail and airiness...but lossless is limiting you to CD 44K quality ...when you play high res music is when you can really hear the brightness of the eversolo imho.
Hi@@mact3333 The eversolo Master edition was nice and smooth bofore I switched to Apple Music. I only switched 4 days ago and was using Qobuz before. It was not bright at all and the master edition has different op-amps. I am not sure what you mean apple music is limited to 44k? They have a lot of his res music that comes thru as 24-96 hi res? At least that is what my eversolo is telling me and I do have a built in Dac on my pre-amp that I have been trying and it tell me that some streams are 24-96 if apple music has a his-res version
I currently own the Audiolab 6000N streamer which is pretty basic and I bypass its internal DAC with my external DAC I like that the Eversolo has the ability to rip CD's If I also bypassed the Eversolo DAC with my external DAC do you anticipate better sound quality from the Eversolo Oh my external DAC costs more than 4 times of the Eversolo 😅
This streamer is not that difficult to setup or use. I find it simple with several options. I have the A6 Masters Edition and it is great. Yes it’s worth the money. Everyone seems to have a little different opinion of the sound so I will not even go there.
Mine did come with a remote, it was just stuck to the outside of the A6 box. So maybe Eversolo is including the remote lately... it was even mentioned on my dealers website that the remote is included. Software wise it is top-notch, there is nothing better atm. the A6 does not sound cold, specially if you use the slow roll off-minimum DAC filter, then its very warm even. most reviews don't mention that the A6 can upsample everything from the internal player and native apps (apple, Tidal but not with spotify connect or tidal connect) up to 192khz btw. the raved screen is the worst screen on any device I have seen in the last 10 years. no contrast at all, the worst possible viewing angles ever...
Great speakers. My SMSL M500 MK III ESS9038pro doesn't sound cold at all. It's all implementation. I think it is a good streamer but nothing special. It is a good package for people who want to use the DAC as well and all the other functionality. I don't want to pay for a dac and screen I won't use and would rather spend the money on a dedicated streaming transport where every penny has been spent on making it a as good a transport as possible.
The A8 is also a full fledged pre-amp. If one only needs a streamer to output into a Dac, then the A8 is not really worth it. I had the A8, I returned as I feel the A6 into a Gustard R26 sounds better than the Akm chips in the A8. Also rember that it’s a tough sell to put all the eggs into one basket. The A8, a combo streamer, Dac preamp becomes a $2,000 paperweight when that display dies and it typically will be the first thing to go on any one of these devices.
@@Newrecordday2013 OK I remember you testing another model and you were saying goodbye to the Holo DAC. I can’t remember what it was called but I do remember you saying something about the quality of the finish not being so great so you’ve set me to task now I’ll have to try and go back and find the video. Lol.
Even with Roon, you really need a streamer to feed your DAC. For that job this is overkill. Yes, you can feed a DAC from the Roon Core, but it sounds much better if you feed the signal to a streamer - even a Raspberry Pi 4 - and then into the DAC than going directly out of the Core. A friend uses the SOtM sMS-200 Neo to feed his Holo Audio May and it really beats the RPi4 solution.
@@matthewsallman1700 how does adding another component into the signal path improve the sound? If Roon is sending a bit-perfect flac file to the dac, what could another component possibly do to improve it?
@_Chev_Chelios what I have heard is that the there are enough processes going on in the Core that it can cause issues in the purity of the signal being output. This is from folks at Roon who are otherwise skeptical of other tweaks to the Roon infrastructure. I was surprised when I added a RPi streamer that my sound improved. My friend then moved from the RPi4 solution to the SOtM device and got a bigger improvement - mainly in bass firmness.
Hardly the ultimate. I have the A6 and also have an Aurender N200 with the same Holo Audio May as ron. The A6 is in no way the equivalent. The ESS DAC is just too bright sounding to me.
Android bashing.....wrong. You should bash their skin which runs on top of Android. Pixel 8 Pro is as smooth as butter. Android/Google didn't skin the A6.
You are saying it is not a good-sounding streamer, and the best idea is just to let digital signal to an external DAC. I tried it, and it is not even close to Metronome DSS digital streamer with Metronome DAC. It is okay for an entry-level system and nothing more.
A lot of audiophiles interested in streamers already have decent DAC and they just need a good streamer. Another reviewer said with a digital out Wiim pro with LPS sounds as good as DMP-A6. Price difference between Wiim and DMP-A6 was big and we could at least buy a better DAC with money saved.

At least that is what my eversolo is telling me and I do have a built in Dac on my pre-amp that I have been trying and it tell me that some streams are 24-96 if apple music has a his-res version
What was the symphonic metal sound clip?
Streamer! Nothing but a streamer!!!
I found that using a high quality DVD drive the rips sound better. Do as you please.
Which would you recommend for such a setup?
@@aayotechnology I liked the Asus but actually gave up on ripping as I never got the quality I wanted.
I currently own the Audiolab 6000N streamer which is pretty basic and I bypass its internal DAC with my external DAC I like that the Eversolo has the ability to rip CD's If I also bypassed the Eversolo DAC with my external DAC do you anticipate better sound quality from the Eversolo
Oh my external DAC costs more than 4 times of the Eversolo 😅
This streamer is not that difficult to setup or use. I find it simple with several options. I have the A6 Masters Edition and it is great. Yes it’s worth the money. Everyone seems to have a little different opinion of the sound so I will not even go there.
Did you assemble your Bullies or did you buy them already built?
Neither, Danny dropped them off for me to listen to.
Just buy the remote . Making life much easier just for extra few bucks.
Agreed, ~$12 on Amazon
What about the Red?
I need to check that thing out.
The remote control is optional and you can order it for around 20 bucks. This would be far more useful to mention.
You should mention that in your review.
@@Newrecordday2013 if you are willing to become my mentor 😉
10:44 holo audio may dac
How are you liking your May?
The Dmp A8 is even better
The A8 is also a full fledged pre-amp. If one only needs a streamer to output into a Dac, then the A8 is not really worth it. I had the A8, I returned as I feel the A6 into a Gustard R26 sounds better than the Akm chips in the A8. Also rember that it’s a tough sell to put all the eggs into one basket. The A8, a combo streamer, Dac preamp becomes a $2,000 paperweight when that display dies and it typically will be the first thing to go on any one of these devices.
What is the first song please male vocals please?
Aren’t those GR Research Asymmetrical loudspeakers
Yup
Try a Grimm MU1 it will make all your cheap Chinese junk dacs sing better since it has better clocks and upsampling and better filters
Still using the tyrs?
Yup
Dude what are you even rewiving? I didnt have the patience to find out.
Figured it was obvious, I’m rewiving a fax machine.
I’m curious what a rewive is.
@@Newrecordday2013😅😂
@@craigcoughlin1834 have you ever heard of dyslexia? You may have just seen it.
When did you go back to the Holo DAC?
? I never changed dac’s.
@@Newrecordday2013 OK I remember you testing another model and you were saying goodbye to the Holo DAC. I can’t remember what it was called but I do remember you saying something about the quality of the finish not being so great so you’ve set me to task now I’ll have to try and go back and find the video. Lol.
@PP-nh1lv oh, it was the pasethia. Yeah, that title was merely asking the question. I didn’t think it was better than my May Dac.
Ah, ok, I see. My bad, sorry
Your moms an Audiophile too!?
Why would anyone choose a streamer over a Roon set up?
I think you will get tired of walking over to your "box" and press a button or five, when your phone is always in your pocket....
Things channel really becomes (my) a serious source of no bullshit trusted reviews.
why dont you just hook up a desktop pc via hdmi, rip losslessly to itunes and count the money you will haved saved?
This video sounds more like a commercial 😮
Maybe it is.
For 12 Dollars you can order the remote it is better with it
All MIC android base players have spyware built-in. Avoid them. Cheap is very expensive.
What kind of rack is that?
Homemade
@@Newrecordday2013 rad! might you have details of how you put that together posted somewhere?
Blusound 2i, end off.
I was interested in what you had to say. It's a sickness.
Hardly the ultimate. I have the A6 and also have an Aurender N200 with the same Holo Audio May as ron. The A6 is in no way the equivalent. The ESS DAC is just too bright sounding to me.
I find that the DMP-A6 is too bright as well. That’s why I decided to output it into a Gustard R26 Dac. So much better!!!
Android bashing.....wrong. You should bash their skin which runs on top of Android. Pixel 8 Pro is as smooth as butter. Android/Google didn't skin the A6.
Your one of the finish reviewers around, but we need more content from u. But it is called a new record day right? What’s with the dac reviews?
Interesting review, glad I skipped to the end
Thanks for the view
You are saying it is not a good-sounding streamer, and the best idea is just to let digital signal to an external DAC. I tried it, and it is not even close to Metronome DSS digital streamer with Metronome DAC. It is okay for an entry-level system and nothing more.
Why not put the product name in the title smh
Some of us do the minimums.
@@Newrecordday2013More like you want people to watch the whole thing. Be honest.
That’s a fair and fine point
