Thank you , Andrew. I have the G9 and the S5. By the time I can afford their successors, there will be a Mk III for each. But still, this is GREAT news for the M43 community! The 25mp sensor, with more pixels PLUS the boost in dynamic range, together with the phase-detect AF, put this camera at the very top of any list. M43 is alive and well.

Also looking forward to the new lenses, it shows a commitment to the platform. I'd like to see some comparisons with the OM-1. The G9II's video specs really puts it ahead as a hybrid camera. I might be selling my OM-1 and buying the G9II. Great review, I'm glad they sent you one!

Your presentation and ability to highlight the important parts of the differences from the G9l is awesome. Very well done! I have the G9 and the GX9, and I love both cameras. I would be interested in and upgrade primarily based on the improved autofocus. It’ll be interesting to see if they eventually come out with a GX9II. I really love the size of my GX9, and probably use is more than the G9. Of course, I often have both with me with 2 different lenses. Since I will be traveling to Australia and New Zealand next February, I will have to make my decision by then. Very much looking to this bucket list trip. Again, your style in your videos is outstanding! Thanks, -Marty

You covered the major points here to give me a good start in understanding the capabilities of my G9 ll when it arrives.

Awesome video! I'm so glad the wait is over! Like everyone else, I have been looking forward to this for a long time! But, Panasonic has been very disappointing by holding out so long on things as simple as the AF upgrade! But they sure have made up for it with all the other tech built into their MFT and FF systems now! It's like drinking your favorite whiskey from a firehose! It makes you dizzy with so much goodness at one time! I love it! Thanks, Andrew for such a great video! As usual, you nailed it, and now I have to get one when they come out in November just about Black Friday timeframe!

Thanks for the nice review Andrew. I'm a bit disappointed with the physical changes. I think a lock button on the shoulder dial is essential not matter what the dial is for. I don't like that they have removed the LED screen and I really like the G9's rocker switch for the power button and the LED light. Anyway, good to see they released an update with the phase detect AF. That is the most useful I think. Other improvements are minor. I'd be interested to see in-depth tests of low-light performance compared to the original G9. This is important even if you shoot nature because high shutter speed for things like birds-in-flight need good low-light performance. I think I'll just wait for one GH7 with phase detect AF to come out.

Many thanks Andrew for a very informative and helpful overview of the newly launched G9 mk ii. It looks a great camera - and as much as I love my current G9 (and my older, but smaller and lighter GX8), the G9 mk ii looks a very attractive proposition. It's great to see Panasonic Lumix, along with OMD, continuing to develop the (very underrated) MFT format.

Andrew Kudos for actually putting together a video where by someone actually owns and uses the G9! I am a pro sports photographer and shoot for 5 football teams (North American football)...I have had the G9s in blinding rain with zero issues along with the 200mm f2.8 and cant wait to test out the new auto focus system...using BBF my hit ratio is pretty high right now with the G9. Will be interesting to see how the Mk II performs. One other thing that everyone seems to miss...they moved the eye sensor to the top so now it wont interfere when you are moving your hand/finger across the view finder. AND REALLY sucks I cant use my 12 G9 batteries...lol

Thank you for your detailed review - well done. I use the G9 now & would like the same function button configuration layout that I've set up on it to be the same for my future G9 2. To begin - I like all functions to be within reach of my ' right ' hands thumb & fingers. To start, this means my G9's play back I've moved to the fn 1 location - I use this quite often & like this placement. Do you know if the G9 2's original playback button location - on the left side of the eye piece - can it be reassigned to a different function or is it dedicated ? Also, did you find that the G9 2's Joy Stick to be too sensitive / easily moved ? I've encountered this description on other reviews. Lastly, The G9 has an artist paint palate between iA & C3 on the Mode dial, which has 22 different filters that can be selected from - jpeg only. Is this not available on the G9 2 ? I often use these for their creative / fun factor ! Thanks again. Ray

The launch of the G9II is a significant boost for the m43 community. Recently, I've made a full transition back from Sony FF to m43. Virtually everything you can do with Fullframe can also be achieved with m43, but with less weight (which becomes increasingly important as you get older) and less intimidating to the surroundings. The video quality of the GH6 is impressive and fantastic to work with. However, compact and yet excellent cameras like the GX9 are pleasant companions for a day out. Naturally, the G9II (with its much-improved AF) is on my wishlist, along with the highly underrated OM5 from OM systems (420 grams). The latter camera is a hybrid marvel when it comes to both photo and video (4K and 120 FPS HD) in a small and lightweight body. Try capturing a handheld video with panning using a Sony (e.g., the zv1 or the a7c); it's quite challenging. The OM5 can do it, and, of course, the G9II can as well. Hopefully, Panasonic will continue to innovate and soon release a GX9 mkII and/or a G90 mkII.

Missing the Fn1 button on the back and the top plate display...🤔...Sensor and Autofocus are exciting!! • @garethbramley1
    @garethbramley1 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

Wow, amazing stuff! Pity some features have changed. A lot to take in here.
The G9 I bought 2 and a half years back has been a godsend to me filming small birds and getting birds in flight. The 'pre-burst' feature is an essential for getting the action when a bird (like the kingfisher) takes off or dives. I see this mark II vastly increases this which give better opportunities. 1.5 seconds is incredible. This is the most interesting feature for me.
I've had a 100-400mm lens but just wish I could get closer to the action.
Do you know if there's another higher-powered lens that can be purchased for the G9?
Odd you mention the shutter butter because I found mine rather harsh to focus (it showed white rather than green in the viewfinder) earlier this week - shooting on burst 2 mode, 3200 / 4000 shutter speed, on full lock (400mm).

It's good news for MFT. I handled one over the weekend and the sales chap was enthusiastic to a fault. I could see his point. The 25MP sensor, an increase of 25%, was expected, but still welcome. The video improvements were what I would have asked for had they asked me, and there's the significant increase in resolution of the screen, although it didn't seem to be nearly 2x clearer. However, the (long overdue?) improvement in focusing is the biggest change. I love it, and would love one. However, you can buy a brand new G9 (Mk I?) for under £900 in the UK, and can source offers with that, while the body-only Mk II is £1700. Much as I want a G II, no way would I buy it now. Nice camera though.

Very detailed presentation, the biggest benefit of M43 is the compact design of the cameras and especially the lenses. For people who own the GH6 or the G9, this is a great upgrade. But to switch from another system to the G9 II the benefit I don't see.

(8:00) Auto - Focus in low light situations is a struggle for literally every camera made regardless of manufacturer. The Lumix Leica 200mm/2.8 may have suited the early morning light better, and the M.Zuiko Pro 300mm/4 for greater reach.
OM SYSTEMS M.Zuiko also has the Pro 150-400mm/4.5, and with the eight stops of IBIS, the Lumix G9II should fair extremely well. The overall size benefit of the lens selections plus IS makes the µ4/3 system nearly ideal for almost any situation, especially wildlife…

I haven't had that problem. But I don't do a lot of super-high-speed stuff, usually I stick to 20 FPS to avoid filling my cards up with thousands of unwanted shots.. I find I can keep shooting even while the camera is still saving the last round of burst shots to the card. But I imagine if you were doing a lot of bursts at 75 FPS there could be a problem there.

    @steveforde7475 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

As far as the internals are concerned it appears that Panasonic have nailed it, I think that they've done as much as can be expected with technology as it stands, balancing cost.
I'd be interested to know if the card slots have individual data buses. Lumix were a bit sly with some release data for the original G9 (still my favourite camera none the less) while the G9 had two UHS2 card slots they shared a single data bus so it tends to choke quite quickly. It's noticeably slower in that regard compared to my OM1X (bought for its AF). Another point worth checking is the claimed AF speeds, again the original G9 had some good stats but the second edition of the user manual spawned several asterisks in AF section pointing out that at high speeds the AF system did a 'best guess calculation'.
I don't agree with your comment that 'if you like the old G9, you'll like the new one'. The loss of the top screen is a major misstep on an action / outdoor camera. If you're hiking, moving in and out of hides etc, being able to close the rear screen for protection and still see the essential shooting info on the LCD is a big advantage, secondly as a person of a certain age where spectacles play an increasingly large part in my life, the loss of the eye relief adjustment feature that was on the original G9 is quite simply a downgrade. I'll probably get one eventually, but the changes / downgrades I've mentioned will make it a 'some time in the future' purchase rather than a trade in and take my money now purchase.

And just smaller and lighter lenses. When you take your camera everywhere it makes a huge difference. I put the trinity in my laptop bag and take them everywhere with me. My camera body is a bit smaller(EM-1MkII), but not that much smaller. It’s the lenses. Oh, and my trinity goes to 420mm. Stick a 400mm lens in your bag and take it everywhere. ;)

Let's spot the elephant in the room! Panasonic couldn't sell enough of S5 bodies and decided to re-use them in the M4/3 implementation. They just put the M4/3 sensor instead of the full frame and that's it! Nothing to compare with the original G9. It's just an S5 with smaller sensor. I had the G9 and have the S5 - the G9 body was way much comfortable than the S5 one. Disappointment.

The S1R can do timelapse with no time between images. The G9 cannot, can this?
Some of the features new in the G9 II have been in Olympus cameras for generations.
Does this have a bulb timer. In my Canon cameras, additional to setting exposure duration in the traditional way, when I switch to bulb I can then use a separate timer to ser the exposure duration in hours and minutes.
    I use both Olympus and Lumix, G & S.
I'm unhappy with the new batteries, Canon has used the same battery form since the 5D II and 60D, only minor changes in chemistry in over a decade. The Canon LP-E6 is the same capacity as the batter for GH5 and G9 cameras, only a small difference in shape and a different pinout. They could have used exactly the same batteries for exactly the same performance and negligible difference in body shape.
The E-M1x and later Olympus cameras have live ND and hand-held 50 megapixels, the E-M1x is a little smaller than he Canon 1Dx III, has two batteries and GPS. And PD charging by USB-C. I've been using my big Lumix chargers. The OM 1 shoots faster, it might be a little better at AF.

Why would you purchase a M43 camera in 2023? It’s barely cheaper or smaller.
I have 4 high-end lenses for this format and a broken GH5 so I can imagine that’s a consideration… but new customers, why wouldn’t they simply go for a full frame solution?

If you want a camera for taking pictures, you can get a sony A72 full frame and a lens for 999 bucks.. Plus better lenses.. I dont understand paying this much for such a crap sensor

I believe the reason why it cost so much at the moment. It is because it is packed with a lot of video and photo features than any full frame cameras. It's not useless by any means. Each camera is built differently for the user needs. And clearly, it does not fit your needs. But it may fit other people's needs which is perfectly fine.
Furthermore, Full Frame cameras will not make you a better photographer or videographer if you don't know how to utilize its features or even how to composite your shots to begin with. I feel having many camera options is Welcoming.

@@alexandermedina9886 I dont really see many professional photographers using crop sensors or even mft personally. Not saying you cant use them, but the reason even a cheap full frame sensor would be desirable is because of the obvious lowlight benefits, the larger sensor means you actually get to capitalize on the full size of the aperture on your lenses. Im sure someone will buy this camera, but it just seems like an odd camera to pack a bunch of features into when other full frames exist for not much more with essentially all the same features.

An A72 could only dream of achieving these sort of burst rates. Plus as its an older camera now technology inevitably progresses so many of the FF advantages get eroded away
