*** CORRECTION *** In this video i said when you record video to SSD drive, the maximum frame rate is only 60fps. Turns out I was wrong. You could record video of any frame rate to the SSD drive but you need the optional DMW-AC10 AC Adaptor and also the official dummy battery DMW-DCC17 if you want to to do that . Sorry about the incorrect information in the video This is my longest review ever! My review scripts is 24 pages long and I tried my best to cut it as short as possible and it's still 2 hours long! I have more Lumix G9II videos coming soon so remember to come back to this channel if you are interested in the Lumix G9II! And does anyone actually manage to watch the whole 121 minutes review?
I just finished the whole thing. What an absolutely epic review. The depth and quality of the comparisons you did is truly impressive. Thank you so much for the effort you put into this!
Great review Richard. You are always my TH-camr of choice to get honest and detailed reviews 👍🏻 Couple of questions please: How quick does the 200 photo buffer clear with a good USB SSD? Does the camera have HDMI RAW output?
@@007silverwings I haven't test the SSD write speed and already returned the camera. but i'll see if i can test it for you this evening at a local Lumix event. for the HDMI raw question, No it doesn't. It is one of the major difference between it and the GH6 for video shooters (the other is lack of cooling fan)
I almost never leave comments on TH-cam, but this in-depth review is just too impressive, and so much effort was put in. Come on people, 5.9K view and only 409 likes? What's not to like? Anyway, thank you so much Richard for this in depth review. Helped me alot in deciding my next camera as a G9 user. Greatly appreciate this!! Cheers and all the best.
Supreme effort Richard, well done! I'm gonna have to watch this in a few sections, but I'm always very grateful for anyone who makes my videos look short!
hey Gordon! haha you are my benchmark when it comes to in-depth videos! Looking forward more of your G9II coverage and what you found when compare to the OM1 :)
Indeed, @@cameralabs, though a bit suspiciously overly positive. OK, a safari tour _is_ such a memory where everything is nice and revered, and the two flagship camera's admittedly are superb engineering achievements, no doubt. But RED35 has some interesting thoughts on this comparison. MFN have what you both lack for the time being: an unabashed personal presentation, and the charms of a young woman. Look at them, or at CC - everything can be done without being ever so grave. But that's probably the most difficult part, to deploy your free inner being before the camera.
P.S. Richard, there is hardly anyone that does such incredibly thorough reviews as yourself. Perhaps Gerald Undone could be considered in your league. Thanks again.
Watched the entire video. The best camera review I've seen so far. You outdid yourself and were in a different league. Straight up objective and to the point. I'm not even in the market for a camera but this was so well done.
@@TheRealRichardWongYou deserve it ! You did an amazing work ! Just don't stop your speech when someone get in your shot in public :P We don't care at all and you are in public Its normal
Your camera-videos are the best on TH-cam. Every aspect is properly analysed, tested and compared. Every detail is mentioned. And it's always delivered in a form, which is immediatly understandable for the viewer. Thank you very much for your hard work! I really wish, you get a lot more subscribers.
The best camera review I have ever seen. An amazing achievement, with detailed, meticulous, and innovative work. As an OM1 user, I have zero issues with your conclusions, whereas other OM1/G9ii comparisons I've seen have been superficial and pretty questionable. You have set an unbeatable standard for camera reviews and indeed tech reviews of any product.
Richard I have watched many videos in the last 3 weeks concerning the G9ii and I must say that your review is the most methodic comprehensive and informative of all of them.I feel that your tests are professional and reliable, unlike many that you can easily realize that they are coming with an agenda or that that they were conducting unreliable tests.Thanks.👍😊
This is literally the first time I leave a comment on TH-cam. This video is made more from passion than from diligence, though later is a must. In a world of confusion, I have so much envy for those who have so much love and focus on what they do. Wish you always have them. 👍
Richard, I watched the entire video though I did it in several pieces. I'm so grateful for the enormous amount of thought and work that you obviously put into this project! I was especially grateful for the careful, even handed comparisons you made between this camera and other, similar cameras that the prospective buyer might want to consider. You convinced me that I need to buy this one, though I'll have to save up for awhile.
This is the upgrade I have been anticipating. The G9ii will pair well with my G9. Panasonic has been killing it, may be the best all around camera till the GH6s launches.
Wow! This is the best and most comprehensive camera review i have ever seen. Well designed performance tests. I am a long time MFT user and will probably buy a G9II, but i would prefer a more compact body, even though the controls would be more difficult to use. Many thanks
The launch of the G9II is a significant boost for the m43 community. Recently, I've made a full transition back from Sony FF to m43. Virtually everything you can do with Fullframe can also be achieved with m43, but with less weight (which becomes increasingly important as you get older) and less intimidating to the surroundings. The video quality of the GH6 is impressive and fantastic to work with. However, compact and yet excellent cameras like the GX9 are pleasant companions for a day out. Naturally, the G9II (with its much-improved AF) is on my wishlist, along with the highly underrated OM5 from OM systems (420 grams). The latter camera is a hybrid marvel when it comes to both photo and video (4K and 120 FPS HD) in a small and lightweight body. Try capturing a handheld video with panning using a Sony (e.g., the zv1 or the a7c); it's quite challenging. The OM5 can do it, and, of course, the G9II can as well. Hopefully, Panasonic will continue to innovate and soon release a GX9 mkII and/or a G90 mkII.
That was an incredibly well thought out and detailed review. Your review sold me, I will be upgrading from the G9 to the G9II, and I now know exactly what I am getting and how it stacks up to the competition (very well indeed!). Thanks to you, I will be buying without reservation. I love your final thoughts, including displaying your carry-kit. 24-1600mm range in a lightweight backpack and a camera with great image and video quality! That really shows the strength of the M43 system as a wildlife and travel camera. It is what sold me as the best bang-for-the-buck camera and lens system. Now that the G9II is here, there is no reason to look anywhere else. Long life and happiness for you and your family.
Watched it all the way to the end! You've done an amazing job here. I still remember your review of the EM-1 from almost a decade ago which helped me decide on ditching APSC and moving to M43 so thanks for all those years of reviews. I have to say that I've been expecting the G9.2 for a long time, and I was initially disappointed. Putting aside all the specs and capabilities, the G9 has been the single most enjoyable camera I've ever shot, between its supersized EVF, top screen, and spectacular ergonomics, all lost a bit in the G9.2 to the S5 body. And then it seemed like, originally, that other than a (much delayed) decent CAF system, there's not much new here. But going through your review I see Panasonic did something which goes against all modern marketing machines. Rather than stacking million of new features they can promote, they simply perfected almost everything about the camera (comfortable grip aside ;-)). While I'm mostly invested in Panasonic glass, I was initially feeling that the wait may have been in vain and I would have to switch back to OM.... But having seen this 2 hours review (!!) now, I see that this camera is just perfected in every possible way. So thanks again!
wow! My EM1 review! That was a long long time ago I'm not sure how many of my viewers have read my old reviews. Glad you enjoy this review as well and found it useful for your camera purchase decision
As primarily a photographer, I'd love to see a more in-depth comparison of the OM-1 and G9 ii. The dynamic range results you outlined are most curious. With the extra range the BSI sensor the OM-1 uses you would think it would fare better. I was especially surprised by the magenta cast you noted when raising the EV to bring up shadows. I wonder if anyone else has noted this when testing. I really appreciate all your hard work and thorough testing. Cameras are a big purchase for most of us, something we might only replace every 5-6 years, if not more. So it's great to see this level of detail. I don't think the G9 ii will sway me to sell off my OM-1. It's barely a year old after all. Though, I am very impressed by what Panasonic has done. If this had been out a year ago, I'd have bought it instead. I was a Panny user for many years. I just ran out of patience waiting for a G9 replacement. I think they might find that's the case for a lot of would-be buyers. At least I didn't leave the M43 system. So I can go back, maybe one day. Thanks again for the great review! Best of luck to you and your channel.
@@TheRealRichardWong Generally, but it being BSI was supposed to help with this. OM Systems also quoted improved dynamic range when compared to the previous sensor they used. Which is kind of confounding now as we see it might not have been the reality. I think the most anyone has found in RAW is perhaps half a stop of actual improvement, but testing dynamic range seems to be a complicated game, perhaps with no definitive way to judge with complete objectivity because there are too many variables. So different people with different methods get different results. I'd certainly note that comparing the OM-1 to my previous G7 that I used for many years, I've not noticed that much difference. Completely subjective again.
The magenta and green casts in the other cameras are not actually a camera issue, that's an issue with how ACR sets the blackpoint for those cameras. It's easy to adjust in post as long as the shadow tint is uniform across the frame. If you look at this one spot the G9ii looks decent but if you look at the zoomed out image you'll notice that the shadow tint varies throughout the frame on the G9ii which is a problem.
I made it to the end! That was thorough. I have pre-ordered the G9ii. I carried a G9 and the three Leica Panasonic 2.8-4.0 lenses for an equiv. of 16-800 (2x teleconverter) in my backpack up and down the Nile in 100+ degrees in some cases. The size and weight is terrific as are the results, to my eyes at least!
@@TheRealRichardWong Hate to bother you, but the exiftool command does not seem to work on my MacBook, I get this: exiftool -model="DC-GH6" *.RW2 Error: No size tag for IFD0:RawDataOffset - P1000080.RW2 , My G9ii just arrived and I'd love to be able to look at the raw files!
@@brianmckeever5280 Strange, it should work. That's the exact command i use. The error code seems to complain about something wrong with your RAW file. Can you try another RAW file and see? but what software do you use? Adobe has already released RAW support the G9II a while ago.
@@TheRealRichardWong Thank you for replying. I tried it on every image I took, not just that one. I can list the exif data with the tool fine, just can't set anything. I use DxO PhotoLab 6 mostly, but tried Affinity Photo 2.0 and Exposure X6. My Mac can't read them either. DxO says they will support it in Dec. I sure wish everyone just created DNG files. Would be so much easier for everyone. I'll figure something out, I appreciate the ear!
Watched right to the end and I can't thank Richard enough for such a detailed in-depth study of this exciting new camera. I pre-ordered mine on Wednesday! Like Richard, I am disappointed that the LCD screen has disappeared. I've been a Pentax user since 1982 and found - when we went digital, that the screen was so easy to use. Now because I don't like using the rear screen, I will need to lift the camera to my eye to check things, instead of just glancing down. Not very worried about the video side of things. With my five Pentax DSLRs - *ist D, K-5, K-3, K-3 II and K-1, my total video content amounted to just 43 seconds. So, to me, I would have prefered Panasonic to have done what they said and brought us a really photocentric camera. It won't stop me having fun with it when I get it though and who knows, perhaps I might get a taste for the video aspects.
Wow, I made it to the end in one viewing! Many thanks for all the effort this in-depth, extremely informative and well presented review must have taken. Currently I'm a happy OM-1 user but the G9ii is impressive and I think your comparisons between the two cameras is very fair. I look forward to more of your videos in the future, thanks.
Absolutely superb review, Richard. The amount of effort you put into these comparisons is truly top-notch. I also enjoyed your outtakes at the start of the video instead of at the end. I guess you have to laugh not to go crazy. 😆 Impressive camera, and it seems a worthy update to the fabled G9 so bravo to Panasonic Lumix team. That said, the competition is fierce from both feature-perspective and price perspective. Additionally, used models of cameras like the G9, GH5M2, E-M1iii, etc. have dropped in price so much that even the last generation flagships easily meet or exceed the needs of many (most?) hobbyist/enthusiasts. Great time to a consumer, tough time to be an OEM.
Thank you! You answered all of my questions about it, like if the streaking issue was resolved and comparisons to the G9 and OM-1! This is definitely the best video on the G9II right now!
Also, watched all the way to the end. By far the best G9 ii review out there so far. So detailed, thorough and organized. This is how gear reviews should be.
Yes, I watched the whole review! Excellent work, Richard. I have watched about 20 previews and five real reviews in the past few days, and I think I might have to open the wallet on this one. I'm still using a GH4, which I swore I would keep for seven years or until Lumix added PDAF to their m43 camera, so it's time. I was waiting for a GH model with PDAF, but the video in the G9 II is so good, I probably don't need to wait. A large part of my usage will be copying old film negatives, transparencies, and prints, and some artwork for original artists. So the 100MP mode is very enticing! The PDAF and IBIS/Dual IS 2 are a potent combination for both photography and video. The real time LUT feature is pure gold! There is so much to like about this, and then they had to go and update the 100-400 zoom, too? Wow.
All the way. Excellent review, Thank you. Currently I use a G9, in the M43 and Nikon in full frame. The 2nd M43 body was a GX9, which I like the most, with th exception: 1) Negative - GX9 not weather proof in the same way as the G9. 2) Negative - the eyelevel viewfinder, in my humble opinion could have done with a lock. The viewfinder moved whit the slightest pressure. 3) Positive - It was a lot smaller making it less obvious. 4) Positive - Althgough the rear lcd on fips up and down, again, is less obvious when "street shooting". 5) Positive, it has the same 20Mp sensor size. Replaced the GX9 with Olympus, great camera, but I just did not like it as much. As you stated, m43 as a kit to lug around, these are my lenses,1) 7-14 f4 Lumix, 2) 12-24 f2.8 OM Pro, 3) 22 f1.7 Lumix, 4) 42.5 f1.2 Leica Lumix, 5) 35-100 f2.8 Lumix, 6) 100-400mm Lumix Laica, and 7)35mm f1.7 Meike. All this in a small bag, easy to carry around, specially when traveling.
I watched the video all the way through, I've never seen such a comprehensive video! Thank you for taking so much time to walk us though all the features and comparisons to other cameras. Your video is first class, thank you. I am going to replace my trusty G9 with the G9 mk 11 as soon as it is available.
Thank you Richard for creating this very detailed long video. I can understand it's very hard for you to create this video covering minute details of the camera. I will recommend your channel to everyone. Last time few months back in live chat session I had asked about GH6 streaking issue and in this video you have demonstrated very well with example that it is present with other brands too. Great work Richard and I thank you for clearing my doubt as it was caused by watching number of other youtube videos. Panasonic is a very stable system in many ways and will be a huge success in recent future. Autofocus alone with a big purchase price without prores and 422 codecs and video tools will make other brands cameras just like cell phones which needs a replacement after few years. But you can mature well with Panasonic cameras and their high degree comittment to firmware updates. One again thank you Richard for all your great work🙏.
I have been following your videos for years and I can say you are the most brilliant when it comes to camera content..please never stop with your excellent videos and content ..for sure you are the best .. Much Love from Ireland..I actually have the g9 and as an amateur I am really happy with my cam..you are a family man and have cute son.. blessings to you and fam.i wil always continue to follow you 🎉
Excellent review. We have two G9 cameras and we purchased two OM-1s several months ago primarily for birds along with the Oly 300mm as we got tired of waiting for a G9 update. I love the size and capabilities of the OM-1 kit but alas I just ordered the G9II so my wife has the best MFT video available, too many lenses to move to another format. Thanks again for the in depth explanation and comparisons to other cameras.
I watched the whole thing till the end but with 1,75x speed :D Thank you Richard, not only for a very thourough G9II review, but also for the comparison with OM-1 and APS-C cameras. Seeing how small are the differences in image quality results between competitors, as a mft shooter, I feel convinced that I don't need to chase bigger sensor sized cameras for my needs. I may only hope that G9II sensor with some of its features will soon land in the gx8 succesor!
FANTASTIC REVIEW - that must have been an insane amount of work! I also thought there was no way I'd watch such a long review, but the whole thing was full of useful information!
@@TheRealRichardWong My only thought is that the long time might scare people off from even starting to watch - I'd suggest a teaser/overview video, then link to this. But all good, useful information.
@BooDevil65 thanks for the feedback and suggestion. I like your suggestion, my struggle is how to cut a short video that is not just a teaser as I want my short video to be informative as well
Great in-depth review.......I just finished a 820sqft large scale outdoor public photo exhibition using only my OMD-EM10.....and images are razor sharp even at 8ft. Post-editing software helps but its all about how you use it no matter what camera you have or even how old. I didn't have to rely heavy auto-focus use as my subject was static which is import in the m43 world.....More than anything though, the demand the industry requires on regular consumer funds to run R&D and keep the system alive in a economy saturated at peak camera tech involvement and and the ever gaining cell phone photography market is ever so consuming!
Wow, this is amazing! Thank you Richard for this outstanding review. You kept me driving into the screen for at least two hours, probably more than once... With so much explained details of the camera's possibilities I manage to get familiar with my new camera much easier after years with GH5. Great work for a great camera, thanks again Richard and all my best wishes!
I am at a halt of how to choose between the GH 5 S as it takes great night shots and this newer G 9 ll... I wanna both to do night shots, street documentaries in a poetic mood, and observational documentaries and add voice-over later or music, but I also want to acting of myself in front of the camera with some simple lighting at home or preferably just natural light...like one-man plays, short plays, monologues for online usage... How to understand the differences between these models in the way I wanna work? Like street photography, slow-motion work, more filmistic and artistic colouring later on ... should I film in RAW, how good are these cameras for this? or should I step over to the black magic cameras? Please advise based on what I aim to do... thanks for a great video to help me look into this model, I just got to know about it today but have been looking at upgrading from my GH3 to the GH 5s.. and then today I heard about this one and also the new Black Magic cameras that I can use my MF lenses with as well... So, feel a bit unclear about what will be most interesting to work with when one is more an artist director/actor than a cinematographer... the Gh5s I have found is second-hand and in great shape for 1200 dollars, the GH9ll is another 1000 dollars... hmm...
The GH5S should give you better low light performance, but between the GH5S and G9II, i would recommend the G9II for the type of things you want to shoot, even if it cost $1000 more. The new PDAF autofocus, the excellent IBIS (which GH5S doesn't have at all), the higher resolution photo and video output, open gate mode...etc all make the G9II a better choice especially when. you shooting run and gun, one-man band style. I wouldn't bother shooting in RAW for video. While it does give you more flexiblity and in theory the best image quality, the extra effort, storage, processing, computer power required is just not worth it for most kind of projects in my opinion. Just the extra amount of harddrive/SSDs you have to buy would shock you. Normal 10 bit video shoot in VLOG profile is really good enough for most projects again in my opinion.
thanks for replying! To put these photographic cameras used as video cameras in perspective to something different but that also got the 10 bit video in vlog, what do you think of using the Panasonic HC-X20 and selling my GH 3 and my three lenses and going over to a camcorder like that one for my kind of projects? trying to think out of the box and start over with a different approach this time around.... @@TheRealRichardWong
@@SimplicityForGood HC-X20 is great. It's alll in one you don't need to much around with many extra gear, lenses..etc But it's a really different kind of workflow/setup. And you can't do any photography at all. I can't help you to choose that. Some may prefer camcorder but some prefer mirrorless
Hi Richard. Like others here, i very rarely leave reviews. I watched whole thing and was blown away with the time and effort you put into demonstrating all the features of the G9ii. Well done mate!
When it comes to your review videos Richard. The longer the better. I love it. I'm watching this one in 35 minute bursts. Bravo. Looking forward to more.
Wow--very impressive how in-depth your testing is and thanks you so much for taking the time and trouble to present your results! I primarily use my G9 "I" and shoot RAW+JPG (the latter for easier curating/reference), but can't imagine processing in-camera (or on any screen much smaller than my 32" calibrate 4K monitor). DxO has so many great ways to emulate film (PhotoLab, FilmPack, and Nik--especially Silver Efex) anyway. As I only rarely shoot video, I concentrated on the stills-oriented sections. I had planned to get a G9 II anyway, and your YT has certainly not dissuaded me! BtW, I've never had a significant issue with rolling shutter with my G9 I and I use the electronic shutter probably >95% of the time (but that's also stills >99% of the time). I hope that Panasonic adopts your suggestions and I agree with you about the ergonomics of the G9. I had hoped they'd keep the same body for the same reasons you state (now I'll have to get another battery grip and even more batteries).
I am new to this channel and must say, this was one of the most helpful reviews I've ever watched on TH-cam. Comprehensive, well edited and most of all *honest.*. I watched about 5 others before I came to this. They all start with "I want you to know that I am not paid by the camera company to promote their equipment." Then, it's pure hype and fan boy or fan girl-ism. 'oh this is the best at this, top in its class, a new standard.'Yada,yada.yada. No data no facts, just opinion. That's why your review is a breath of fresh air. Hard work, tests and comparisons and analysis that helps the viewers make a choice. No hype. In other words, i feel like I can trust what you present and am happy to have found your channel.
Thank you very much Rich! Really appreciate your kind words. We reviewers do get hyped up a bit with the shinny new camera in front of us. That could easily make us say things like "best thing ever" in our reviews. Also not going to lie, titles like that would get more views and help grow the channel a lot faster than videos with more boring titles/thumbnails. But yes when i want to say things like "it is the best" in my review, i do want data/material to backup my claim. And usually i want to do controlled test if possible. It does increase the time/effort required significantly but I feel as a reviewer, i have the responsibility to prove what i said and also make sure what i said is really the truth by doing my homework first. I could still be wrong, and i was wrong many times in the past. But i do really want to minimise that.
Something is not right with the number of views, likes and comments here. This is a competent _tour de force_ camera review if there ever was one. It has everything on display one could wish for, save a look at the price in the market segment. I remember my first encounter of a Richard Wong's video, his G9 account, it was enticingly interesting but had a language idiosyncrasy that turned me down. Now he has worked on this (still could do more, this is showbiz Richard after all...!) but his competitiveness has already made him a worldwide renown authority. If that's a comfort for you Richard: the most of important ones have already seen your video, the future will bring the rest that matter to the club. Anyone watched the whole 121,5 minutes, you ask? Me twice! Happy 2024 to you and your family!
Hi ГРАД ЗЕЛЕНЕ БОЈЕ, thank you very much for your kind words. And thanks for your feedback. There are definitely things I can work on and improve so hopefully the next time you watch my video, you will find I have made some adjustments/improvements! Happy new year to you and your family! Richard
after the update the focus is crystal clear to me on my 4k 42 inch monitor. From what I'm seen the auto focus seems to be as good as any system. I've watched hours and hours of reviews.
@TheRealRichardWong just to clarify - around 42:37, as you're talking about filling the buffer, you mention amounts of time you can shoot for "before the camera slows down". Is it correct then that the camera can still shoot when the buffer is full, albeit at a slower rate? I've seen some forum posters saying that the camera stops entirely when the buffer is full and can't shoot again until all files are written to the card. I havent seen that fact mentioned in any YT reviews so far though.
I've already returned the camera to Panasonic but i'm very sure you can continue to shoot just at lower speed when shooting in normal burst mode. And when shooting in super high speed burst mode, you can shoot too as soon as the buffer count is not zero. It has always been like that with all the Lumix cameras such as GH6 and it is the same with the G9II
Thank you brother Richard. This is the most comprehensive review out there. I honestly didn’t think m4/3 had a place in the market but this is clearly not the case. I’m definitely interested. Oh, and your photos were 👍
This is the most detailed review I've seen and enjoyed! I especially love to comparisons with the other camera's because that provides actual context. I'm happy to save up for this camera and I'm sure I love the additional features and detail over my 16mp G85. Thanks again for your wonderful detailed review! Thanks Panasonic for creating this wonderful camera!
After watching the video, I immediately noticed that this review is very objective and provides me with a lot of information that I wanted to see. Big thumbs and thank you very much
@andresgonzalezcerda7635 what are the yellow numbers you are referring to? is that the big text pop up on the screen from time to time when I'm talking about some specific numbers?
I started using micro four thirds mirrorless this year with the G95 building out a massive rig that is getting very impressive and fun experimenting and growing in my photography! I feel that micro four thirds is still in its infantcy and has alot of awesome growing yet to come !
i just tested with my 20mm 1.7, it works and it works reasonably well. When taking photos, then i notice the AFC speed/accuracy doesn't seem quite as good as the newer lenses
if you want to do in-camera stacking, only OM1 can do that. But apart from that, i have not really test/compare the two camera's focus stacking/bracking feature.
Thanks for this review. I watched from start to finish and it was worth it. The funds I had been putting aside for a different camera in a different, larger-sensor system will now all be directed to the G9-II. And I can keep using all of my MFT glass!
You deserve a lot of credit for such a comprehensive review. I've been concerned about the grip on the new G9 changing the feel of the camera, but also intrigued by the idea of a better AF experience from a G9 camera that I feel has been underrated even with just the G9's original contrast AF system. As far as the size is concerned I think MFT's small size has more do with the lenses than the camera body. Hands are all pretty much the same size but I don't think I'd enjoy taking a 200-800mm lens for a full-frame camera on long hikes. One trick I learned from Matt Granger to improve the AF of the original G9 was to overlay bird detect AF on the center square focusing mode and just expand or contract that square as needed. It seemed to greatly reduce the time it took for the AF to lock on compared to just using the full-frame AF sensors. Any thoughts regarding this technique?
Thanks Bruce! Re Reducing the AF area, I'm not sure about the AF speed . But with smaller area, there is less data to process and less things/chance to misfocus so you can always get better autofocus performance
Outstanding review which only took three attempts to complete, but all in one day! And my second time of watching - it is that good. Your precision in your use of words is astounding and your ability to answer my next question just before I even think of it is at AI level! Incredibly helpful to me as I try to figure out whether to upgrade my GX9 to the G9 II or my D750 to a Z8. I have more Nikkors, including the fantastic 200-500, than Panasonic lenses but the 20-80 Elmarit is just so good! It’s an exciting choice to be making and either will be a success, just likely to go the Panasonic route because of travel plans. Thanks again, Richard.
I did watch all the way through, didn’t intend to, but you did a really thorough job and I’m glad I did. Had my G9 nearly 5 years and I will be upgrading. 😊 thank you.
Re the OM-1 ISO range, the specs say that it's native range is 80 - 25600, so yes, values > 25600 are in the "expanded" region, where presumably it's boosting the "gain" digitally. (like you did to the G9m2 image)
My first time watching your work Richard Wong. Hands down the most in-depth review I've watched and all presented economically despite the wealth of info. Thank you for the immense effort you clearly put into this - I will return. Oh, and I've pre-ordered my G9ii for delivery in UK in early November (I hope!). Until then .. I have lots of lenses but no camera! Cheers.
I saw you did a walking test with the 9mm +IBIS to show how the corner wobble but you didn't show how it performs with EIS standard on. Anyway, I'm just wondering how it perform with EIS standard on, hope you can answer me! Also, you said you did a test with an 8mm on HIGH at 1:26:15 , was it a different lens or did you mean 9mm?
the 8mm test was done with Lumix 8-18mm lens. I've just uploaded another IBIS test video on my channel done at different focal length, but has EIS on/off results
Great job as usual. As always, your AF testing is 2nd to none. Appreciate all the work you put in to help us with our purchasing decision. Definitely going to upgrade from the OG G9!
Absolutely incredible. Thank you for this beast of a review. Of course I liked and subscribed. Cannot imagine how many hours, days and weeks you put into this 😮 謝謝你
Of course I made it. I watched in several sessions so not to loose focus. It was great. Once again I'm buying a product predicated on one your reviews and your answers to my important questions. Not a fanboy here, but someone who knows when someone knows what they are talking about. So that is gold. Thanks Richard.
This is the most details camera reviews that i watched. I watched all the way to the end and the video answer all my questions. Thank you for the awesome video.
Sorry about the incorrect information in the video
This is my longest review ever!
You are always my TH-camr of choice to get honest and detailed reviews 👍🏻
Couple of questions please:
How quick does the 200 photo buffer clear with a good USB SSD?
Does the camera have HDMI RAW output?
@@mmartel Thank you!
She was being a straight butt hole 😂 in the start of the Video.
Thank you Minnie! 409 like is a lot to me but of course the more the merrier and that help me get TH-cam to push to more potential viewers:)
@@TheRealRichardWong thanks! In the meantime Micro Four Nerds made a really good comparison video.
Thanks again.
haha thank you for such kind comment. I would be super happy if my review is half as good as Gerald's!
I raise you Gordon @camerlabs :)
I concur. Great and super detailed review. Definitely will be getting this camera in the future.
😂@@bingbong4848, but Gordon needs to be raised Richard yet!
Yes, all the way. Many thanks - excellent review.
Watched the entire video. The best camera review I've seen so far. You outdid yourself and were in a different league. Straight up objective and to the point. I'm not even in the market for a camera but this was so well done.
Oh you are just too kind but I really appreciate that. Feedback like that keep me motivated to do more reviews!!

@@TheRealRichardWongYou're welcome !
Thank you so much 😀 More subscribers are always great. But I'm just very happy to see great responses from my long time subscribers like yourself :)
Of course I watched it to the end! I appreciate your very hard and detailed work. I am going to buy one to go with my OM1
Awesome! Thank you very much!
Thank you very much for your kind words David. Really appreciate that.
ליהלי. thank you so much! Glad you like my review! Hearing comments like this makes it worth all the effort :)
This is literally the first time I leave a comment on TH-cam. This video is made more from passion than from diligence, though later is a must. In a world of confusion, I have so much envy for those who have so much love and focus on what they do. Wish you always have them. 👍
Oh thank you so much, I am really glad to hear you like this video and can understand the effort and my passion :)
Glad you like this review Terry!
This is the upgrade I have been anticipating. The G9ii will pair well with my G9. Panasonic has been killing it, may be the best all around camera till the GH6s launches.
thanks for watching!
Best review of the G9II I have watched by far! Thank you Richard.
You went so far beyond with helpful information compared to anyone else. You deserve kudos. Thanks!
Hey Bob, I really appreciate that! Thanks for watching and the super thanks!
Long life and happiness for you and your family.
thank you so much Kevin!
Stacked sensors usually perform worse in terms of noise and DR. The BSI compensates for it a bit.
OM1 uses stacked sensor which usually gives you high speed read out but sacrifice in dynamic range.
Enjoy your G9II
@@TheRealRichardWong Hate to bother you, but the exiftool command does not seem to work on my MacBook, I get this: exiftool -model="DC-GH6" *.RW2
Error: No size tag for IFD0:RawDataOffset - P1000080.RW2 , My G9ii just arrived and I'd love to be able to look at the raw files!
Absolutely no one offers a more complete review. Thanks Richard
thank you!
It won't stop me having fun with it when I get it though and who knows, perhaps I might get a taste for the video aspects.
thanks for watching, enjoy your G9II
Wow, I made it to the end in one viewing! Many thanks for all the effort this in-depth, extremely informative and well presented review must have taken. Currently I'm a happy OM-1 user but the G9ii is impressive and I think your comparisons between the two cameras is very fair. I look forward to more of your videos in the future, thanks.
thanks for watching! And glad to hear you found the comparison fair :)
Thank you for a very comprehensive review, I made it to the end and have also ordered a G9 mk2 as well.👍.
thank you for watching, enjoy your G9 II!
Absolutely superb review, Richard. The amount of effort you put into these comparisons is truly top-notch. I also enjoyed your outtakes at the start of the video instead of at the end. I guess you have to laugh not to go crazy. 😆
Impressive camera, and it seems a worthy update to the fabled G9 so bravo to Panasonic Lumix team.
Really agree with what you said! Competition is really tough but great for us consumers
Thank you! You answered all of my questions about it, like if the streaking issue was resolved and comparisons to the G9 and OM-1! This is definitely the best video on the G9II right now!
Glad it helped!
Also, watched all the way to the end. By far the best G9 ii review out there so far. So detailed, thorough and organized. This is how gear reviews should be.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Your review is honest, professional and creative, one of the best camera reviews I have seen. Thank you for your awesome work.
Wow.
Thanks for watching :)

Thank you! I would love to see a GX8 successor too.

FANTASTIC REVIEW - that must have been an insane amount of work! I also thought there was no way I'd watch such a long review, but the whole thing was full of useful information!
really glad to hear that, i always fear my review is way too long and boring to watch.
Watched it all the way through. Excellent! I know how much work it is making such a video, so thank you very much!
Glad you enjoyed it! :)
Thank you so much Christoph! Glad you found it useful. Comments like this really makes it worth spending a whole month to work on this review
It's alll in one you don't need to much around with many extra gear, lenses..etc
But it's a really different kind of workflow/setup.
Thank you very much Luke! Comments like this really makes my day!
When it comes to your review videos Richard. The longer the better. I love it. I'm watching this one in 35 minute bursts. Bravo. Looking forward to more.
thank you so much for your continuous support!
Nice convincing review for my new G9mklI. Make me think about reducing my Nikon FF dSLR gear! I watched the entire video. Kudos to you!
Thanks for watching!
I watched the whole review! It was superb, thank you. My G9 Mk ii arrives soon.
Thanks!
Thank you so much George!! You are too kind!
Best review of G9 II on entire Internet… hands down! 🎉❤😮 Amazing gob
Thank you so much!! 🙏
G9 ii…, the movie.
Amazing work!!
@@TheRealRichardWong much appreciated Richard
Thanks
thank you so much Peter! :)
Danke!
Carsten Welslau, thank you so much!!
Thanks
Oh thank you so much ❤️
Thank you brother Richard. This is the most comprehensive review out there.
I honestly didn’t think m4/3 had a place in the market but this is clearly not the case.
I’m definitely interested.
Oh, and your photos were 👍
thank you so much for watching and commenting Igni :)
One of the best videos I've ever seen on TH-cam, hands down. Pretty much a perfect review, thank you!
oh thank you so much!!
Glad it was helpful!
After watching the video, I immediately noticed that this review is very objective and provides me with a lot of information that I wanted to see.
Big thumbs and thank you very much
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching
Unbelievably I watched the whole video , it is very systematic and well organized ! Great works !
The big And bright yellow numbers are a great idea.
@andresgonzalezcerda7635 what are the yellow numbers you are referring to? is that the big text pop up on the screen from time to time when I'm talking about some specific numbers?
All the way to the end. Always a pleasure watching your thorough review. Thank you.
Awesome! Thank you so much!
Thank Richard from Minnesota. I made it to the end. You answered all my questions
Awesome thank you so much for watching Steve
Panasonic needs to give this man free camera's for life. What a video 🙌
Haha as long as you guys love this video i am happy
Made it to the end! Thank you so much for all of your hard work on this review :)
I started using micro four thirds mirrorless this year with the G95 building out a massive rig that is getting very impressive and fun experimenting and growing in my photography! I feel that micro four thirds is still in its infantcy and has alot of awesome growing yet to come !
Definitely more to come!
Very impressive and logical review format. First time seeing your channel and I will be seeing a lot more. Thanks.
Thank you very much John!
Do you know if the video autofocus will work with the Lumix 20mm 1.7? Some Lumix cameras disable some AF functions with this lens. Thank you!
i just tested with my 20mm 1.7, it works and it works reasonably well.
When taking photos, then i notice the AFC speed/accuracy doesn't seem quite as good as the newer lenses
@@TheRealRichardWong thank you!
Is the g9ii better than the om-1 for focus bracketing/stacking?
if you want to do in-camera stacking, only OM1 can do that. But apart from that, i have not really test/compare the two camera's focus stacking/bracking feature.
Thank you very much for your answer!!!@@TheRealRichardWong
Excellent review with great comparisons. MFT is a great option. This answered many of my questions and more.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Thanks for your mind words! Oh what 20-80 lens are you referring to?
@@TheRealRichardWong !! My mistake 12-60mm. It's a fantastic lens.
@JohnRussellHodge_progtwit oh indeed! Great for everyday and travel
best reviewer for really any video products BY FAR!
Wow, thank you so much Michael!
Hey Richard, thanks for the detailed review. Do you remember if the G9ii had the option to use Synchro Scan?
Yes it does!
I did watch all the way through, didn’t intend to, but you did a really thorough job and I’m glad I did. Had my G9 nearly 5 years and I will be upgrading. 😊 thank you.
Really appreciate your kind feedback!
Thank you Richard
thanks for watching :)
Cheers.
Thanks a lot Andrew! Enjoy your G9II!
Thank you for watching!
Good work Richard!!!
Thanks!
Good work Richard, is the high resolution mode recorded in RAW or Jpeg. ?
It can do Both! Up to you what you want
Wow! You really put a lot of work and effort into this review comparison. Thank you.
haha i did. But it seems you guys love it so it's all worth it
Best G9II review so far! Well done Richard! Still have to finish it though 😄 The intro was brilliant 😂
haha i thought we can start with a bit of laugh :D
Can you take picture while recording video like in G9?
oh i haven't test that and returned the camera to Panasonic already. But I'll see if i can test that and let you know
That was a great feature.. Hate they've removed from all the cameras since... I really miss it on the S5 & S5ii.
It seems you can't
Very impressive review, Richard! Thank you for your effort and quality content! You managed to answer all of the questions I had.
oh as a reviwer, that's the best thing i want to hear
Excellent video, the best review I’ve found on TH-cam! I made it start to finish and subscribed to the channel. Thank you!
Awesome, thank you so much!
Richard, you are the best reviewer! So nice detail specs
thank you so much ! Really appreciate it.
Great review of a great camera!
Thanks! 👍 :)
Absolutely incredible. Thank you for this beast of a review. Of course I liked and subscribed. Cannot imagine how many hours, days and weeks you put into this 😮 謝謝你
Thank you so much Lars! you did everything I've asked and more. Really appreciate it!
What an extensive and detailed review! Well done Richard.
Hey Thank you so much Vincent!!
Incredible job Richard, thank you for your efforts!
Glad you enjoyed it Dennis!
Of course I made it. I watched in several sessions so not to loose focus. It was great. Once again I'm buying a product predicated on one your reviews and your answers to my important questions. Not a fanboy here, but someone who knows when someone knows what they are talking about. So that is gold. Thanks Richard.
thanks again!
This is the most details camera reviews that i watched. I watched all the way to the end and the video answer all my questions. Thank you for the awesome video.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching Kelvin!
you probably the first one watched the whole review!
This is what I didn't know I needed. Thank you. I passed on the gh6. I will give up my gh4s for one of these. Thanks for such a great effort.
Glad it was helpful!
