      I still believe that because of size, weight, and quality, M43, with strong support, will continue to grow after people decide to move on from their phones.

    Hi everyone! I hope this video answers a lot of the frequently asked questions regarding the G9 II and how various features and options work. Please note, this video was shot on a loaner pre-release camera, but it's close to the release firmware as of September 17, 2023. This video is not sponsored. Check the timestamps and links in the description box. Cheers! 📸

    Thanks for recommending the G9II. I was on the fence but your vids gave me the confidence to add this to my ZV-1 which I never quite got comfortable with the menus. The Lumix menus are a dream, and navigating, as a beginner is much easier. I'm on the way to my Post Office to pick up the F2.8 35-100 II now!

    Thanks Shane to share your rational to go for the G9 II. In fact, after having seen your test on it, I was certain you'll adopt it... For the last three months I'm questionning myself to do the same. I mainly shoot videos and having a more reliable AFC speaks a lot to me.
    In 2022 your tutorial on the GH5 II helped me a lot (it was my first semi pro-camera experience and I had to master hundreds of new parameters of the menu). Hence if I switch to the G9 II, sure I'll use your new tutorial.

    Hi Shane, this video will be an invaluable resource for those new to Lumix and m43, you've done a great job at giving beginners enough information without overwhelming them.
    Did want to ask though - I regularly use the Ex Tele function on my G9, which is functionally similar to the Pixel/Pixel mode. I understand why you advised beginners to leave the Image Area at Full, but I wondered if you knew what the crop factor was of Pixel/Pixel vs Full readout? It's helpful to know how far I can potentially reach when doing wildlife video. Cheers

      This is a great camera for travel or handheld work especially thanks to the improved IBIS. There's no additional crops so that can come in really handy for a single lens setup. The look of the S5II is amazing for studio and regular frame rate modes. It's all up to your use case.

    Excellent and extremely helpful information about the G9 II camera. Do you know if they are planning to add to the Lumix Sync app the fixture of exporting raw pictures to Mobil devices? Or when the IOS accept those raw pictures from the G9 II. On my first picture on my new g9 II that I took I was able to import that raw picture to my iPad ( only one). How this can be possible ? I love raw pictures , however I can’t transfers those into my Mobil devices. Thanks for your assistant ! Best from Puerto Rico and keep sharing your knowledge and experience with all of us.

    Thanks so much for this tutorial. It helped me a lot as I'm in the phase of getting to know my new G9II. Still can't get my head around multiple options that are not active in my camera (even though I see them active in your video). Not right mode, some other settings etc. probably. I'm sure it'll get easier after some time, but I'm already making a good use of what I've learned here. Huge thanks.

    @Democratiser ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Well done! Your instructions are very clear and helpful.
    I have a G9 and am considering whether the additional features of the G9II are worthwhile at current pricing. As you are aware, the street price for a G9 in Australia is about $1100 and the launch price of the new G9II is about $3k and higher than the S5II! I think I’ll wait a bit for prices to settle down a bit.
    Like many LUMIX fans, I’m also keen to see a GX9 Mark II with PDAF and would choose that over the G9II, if the GX9II’s functionality wasn’t too crippled on account of the body size.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have a feeling the G9II sale price should be pretty good. I think when it comes to M43, they have to be pretty competitive. It'll be interesting to see how it goes. :)

    • @Democratiser
      @Democratiser ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy Yes I was surprised the AUD pricing for the G9 II has been set so high. I agree Lumix pricing in Australia has traditionally been very fair, particularly when compared with some of its competitors such as Canon. Hopefully G9II pricing will fall and become normalised before too long.

    • @Verde88
      @Verde88 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeekyNerdyTechy Remember how much the GH6 costed just after the release.... Now I can see them sold on auction websites second hand but brand-new-ish condition for like 1000 bucks, also the shop price dropped huge! I visited a local camera store (not a chain) and they offered me the G9ii (when its here) for 1600 instead of 1899 which is the suggested price. So I really look at the G9ii as if it were 1500/1600$ (you just need to hunt for it, or just wait a couple of months). And its much less then the latest and greatest from Canon/Sony

I want to keep my left hand on the lens, focus or zoom rings & support the lens / camera while my right fingers & thumb do most of the operating of the camera. On my G9 I've set this up. Thanks for the great and detailed tutorial. I've got a question regarding the stabilisation setting when on a tripod, panning, or using a gimbal. Is the camera "smart enough" to work in the correct way? I've heard that the camera stabilisation can "fight" against the gimbal, or tries to keep the shot steady when panning, causing unwanted jumps in the image.

    Just got my G9ii in the mail and of course this video was my first stop. I am vey bummed about one thing and perhaps you know. Is there any way to lock my shutter speed wheel when shooting video. Gh6 had a locking system and it was great for that. If I can't lock the shutter wheel it's almost a deal breaker. Do you know ? Please let me know.

      It feels like it did a great job when it came to auto-exposure. I don't have the camera currently but I used it a lot and didn't notice it ramping up and down as much in my tests. That said, I might have one on the way soon, so I'll test it out again.

    Hi,
    Do you know if it is possible to have a different colour profile for video and stills mode in the G9 II (and S5)? It frustrates me a bit that I have to change the colour mode when I switch between video and stills mode all the time.

    • @GeekyNerdyTechy
      @GeekyNerdyTechy  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. You can keep the modes unique. Have a look at the creative combined set settings. You can set what the camera remembers between each mode. If you google the term it should come up. I’m pretty sure this will sort it out. The other option is to set a custom mode up to C1 and C2.

    Fantastic video guide! Any info on what the HDMI output specs are? I assume it's at least the same 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2 output found on 90% of all recent Lumix cameras, but woud like to confirm this (I really doubt Panasonic crippled the HDMI output on purpose, but you never know)
    Dream is that eventually this camera could get the same BRAW output as the GH6, making it the perfect hybrid for me. I understand they might not do this since it's a "stills camera first", but Panasonic has a great track record with firmware upgrades and giving cameras more capabilities than the ones they launch with (original G9 was exactly like this vs the GH5). Thanks in advance!

    Great video Shane! A question, since you mainly cover the video features, but not so much the stills options: Does the G9ii have a"focus limiter" mode for photography? NOT for video, but in photo mode: Is there a focus limiter option to tell them to for example only focus from 1m to 10m?
    Thanks a lot!

      You can turn that off in the menu. You might need to look up "Creative Combined Shooting" Mode i think it's called. It shouldn't have the audio levels on there by default unless it was turned on for that photo mode specifically

    Many thanks Shane for this quick overview to get started. A year ago, I bought a GH5 M2. You had made a similar tutorial. Since it was the first time that I went into "semi pro camera world" it helped me a lot. Specially to allocate different fon button to desired functionalities.
    Now I'm thinking to move to the G9 ii. Three reasons : enhanced AFC, 4k 10 bit up to 100 fps and full compatibility with all lenses I already have.
    Question : it seems to me that there is less "fon button" on the G9 ii than on the GH5 ii. Am I correct ?

      Thanks for the kind words. Yep, there's one less function button. The GH5II has a color profile button on the top you can map to just about anything, I think that's the only difference other than the actual body design.
