    There's no excuse for still using lap bars. Cub makes them with smaller decks and the same size engine, which means more torque. Nothing gets loose on them, so just ignore the drop out trolls. I only have 15 years experience on them and am the ONLY one in my neighborhood that hasn't ended up in our lake because I'm the only one that has a zero turn with a steering wheel, so take it for what it's worth.

    I went to a Skag dealer looking to buy a zero turn to mow a 20 deg slope. They had a 20 deg hill at this dealership so I asked the salesman to show me how the mower handles that slope. He had a little trouble keeping the mower straight so I asked him to let me try the mower on the slope he said no I wasn't experienced which I wasn't so I bought a Cub Cadet ZTS1 46 this will do a 360 deg turn on a 20 deg slope no problem. Now it's more expensive than a lap bar but for a non professional homeowner it's worth the money

    I came across a good deal on a used Pro Z 100 S, and I bought it because of the slopes I need to mow. You mentioned turning while going down hill... yes, it works WAY better than a lap-bar ZTR. I have a section where I mow down a hill to a large tree with low branches. With the lap-bar ZTR, I'd try to steer away from the tree, but would often wind up going into the low branches, then backing straight up the hill, then approaching differently. With the Pro Z 100, I can just steer away from the tree, and it goes right where I want it to.

    I have a SZ60. My home is built on the break of a steep slope. I can mow across the slope with no control issues.
    i have a maple tree at the steepest part and I can mow around it as easily as if it were on flat ground. I am sold on this drive/steering control type.

    Shoulda had me review the cub cadet with you I use it on 35 degrees to 65 degrees or more hillsides everyday mowing levy’s and I’ll tell ya it’s not fun but the cub holds well holds better than a ventrac.

      I have one of the first Steering wheel zero turns.. the Toro Time Cutter SW4200. I have rather extreme hills on my 2 acre lot.. way steeper than 20 degrees. Mine has been modded with 10" wide tires and 1.5" spacers on each rear wheel. She holds well sideways on hills that are scarey steep as long as the turf is dry. The crap stamped deck has been bent and welded numerous times with added steel and on my 3rd set of spindles. I must say the stock Toro hydrostatic drives have never failed.. pull very hard. I use my SW4200 as a tractor.. pulling a 600 lb. roller, stump grinders etc. Way beyond it's design. Every electrical item has been replaced or defeated at least once including starter, Brake Controller, switches, and solenoids. Would like to upgrade to the Cub Cadet ZTS2 but that only comes in 50" or wider deck. The 50 comes out to a smidge over 52 inches wide which won't fit thru the door of my 5x8 cargo trailer. Hmmm.. Want me some ZTS2 action, looking like I'll mod the trailer or Remove the deck to transport it.

    Were you able to use the Cub Cadet and it held up on the 25 degree end of that hill? If so was that side to side travel? I have a section of my yard that is about 23 degrees and I can only travel side to side because of some surrounding rocks so I am wondering if the Cub Cadet would get the job done?

      I’ve driven my Pro Z down one of my hills that’s over 45 degrees and felt comfortable. The grass was over knee high at the time. Up seemed too daunting so I haven’t tried, and side on seems like insanity.

    I started out 7 years ago with a Cub Cadet RZT-46S, its been great in the whole considering it's a top-end residential machine. The only annoying, constant problems I have is with the deck. It feels a little lightweight & not up to the rigours of mowing acres of coarse grass on a daily basis. How are the 'commercial' decks stronger, & are the pulley spindles & mounts any stronger on the commercial machines?

    • @M8NTIS
      @M8NTIS ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Your RZT is a toy in comparison to the Pro Zs. Not to put the RZT, they are built for different purposes. You can actually stand on the Pro Z deck they are so overbuilt. Everything about them is buoy like a tank, and that is also why it will weigh twice as much.

    toro "use to" make them too, 42" for residential, i almost bought one because of the steering wheel, at the time i passed, i forgot the reason, i think money at the time i was low, anyway, i really wanted it. i don't know why they don't do it anymore for residential or even commercial. i would like one of these cadet's but the price is still to much for my budget, i wish the prices would come down some.

    Since there appears to be no Brake. If you are going down a steep hill, how do you slow down?

    • @dudleycornman1624
      @dudleycornman1624 ปีที่แล้ว

      let off the accelerator pedal... the braking is through the hydraulic drive... same as a lap bar mower and there is a parking brake I guess you could use if necessary.

    • @BSS22193
      @BSS22193 16 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Why should it be different from driving a lawn tractor on hills? Its no problem to drive a lawn tractor on hills as long as you drive straight up and down the hill. I do it all the time with my lawn tractor and can't see why it should be problem with a zero turn mower.

    • @patrickgambsky6290
      @patrickgambsky6290 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Because the zero turn lawn mower the motor and drive power is in the back of the machine lawn tractor the motor is in the front so the weight will support the tractor from tipping up side down going up a hill

    • @BSS22193
      @BSS22193 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@patrickgambsky6290 So why dont back up the hill and then drive straight forward down the hill? Then you would always have the weight in front of you backing up without the risk of the zero turn tipping over. This is why i dont see that it should be a problem to use a zero turn on a hill. These mowers should have enough weight on the rear wheels to back up on a hill.

    • @patrickgambsky6290
      @patrickgambsky6290 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      My argument my preference is facts at zero turn riding lawn mowers do not belong on hills I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying the safety issues what's zero turn riding lawn mowers on hills is my concerns. For your safety.

    • @patrickgambsky6290
      @patrickgambsky6290 15 วันที่ผ่านมา

      When people see these types of videos if they are not experienced on a zero-turn riding lawn mower it could be fatal that's the reason why I don't support this video. The operator's manual will tell you 100 times better than I can explain
