These Cub Cadet ZT with a steering wheel is unREAL on hills. I have a few acres, nothing but hills, many over 25 degrees, and these front wheel steering units are a B E A S T!!! They are awesome. Front wheels steer 90 degrees left and right, and they talk to the tranny. It's basically 4 wheel steering.
just today, I went to my friends house and drove a cub cadet zero turn with a steering wheel and I have been researching what type 1 hour 30 minutes and the ride on it was unbeaten.
I have no arms and no luck feet steering a zero turn until now! Put me on a sweet steering wheel knob and insert it in mouth. Nice set-up for sure! Will say for anyone else wanting to try this approach though to hang in there the learning curve is there. Mouth and neck muscles need to adapt to it. I have 30 acres so by 2 or 3 cuts I was good to go! Hope this helps.
I've had a ZTS2 for a year now and will never return to a traditional zero-turn mower. Why don't the other major brands have it if it's this good? Easy! Cub Cadet got the engineering right and have several broad patents protecting their engineering. Different manufacturers have tried other engineering (not protected by Cub Cadet's patents) to achieve steering wheel-controlled zero-turns, which has yet to work. Cub Cadet simply beat them to the punch! I expect that when the Patents time out, we'll see the other manufacturers make these as well.
In 2018 we bought a Husqvarna Z254 zero turn. Being the first one we ever owned we though it was a fantastic machine. Lots of problems later, we bought a Cub Cadet now in July 2024. What a shocker. This Ultima ZT1 50 is so far superior to the other brand its embarrassing. Even with a 4 inch narrower deck it still cuts faster, quieter and uses less gas. I prefer this Kawasaki engine over the Kohler. Don't hesitate to upgrade or make this brand a first purchase.
I bought a toro sw 4200 6 years ago. Steering wheel model. Cub cadet sued Toro for patten infringement. Toro had to stop making them. The toro has more features than the cub cadet at lower prices.
Is Kubota aware that you are pushing a competitor mower? Lol they are not in the same league as a Kubota mower and I am not even a Kubota fan but at least Kubota are durable machines.
Most zero turns use similar components. In most cases there isn't anything inherently better than one over the other at the same price point. You're drinking Kool Aid my friend.

No differential, two independent transaxles like other zero turn mowers
If you're going in a straight line, all ZTs behave as if they had a locked diff. But each wheel has it's own transaxle so there is no diff to lock.

Do you have power steering fluid reservoir that can get low on oil
This is all mechanical steering, so no steering fluid is required. That said, It is very easy to turn the wheels, even when stationary.
