Thank you World of Tanks for sponsoring this video.
During registration use the invite code COMBAT to get for free: 7 days of premium access, 250k credits, the premium tank Cromwell B, and 3 rental tanks for 10 battles each: Tiger 131, T78, and Type 64 if you’re a new player. When an Alienware laptop walks into my store, I know my day is about to be ruined. But I wouldn't be in this industry if I didn't enjoy suffering, and boy was this one torture. From a destroyed WiFi card and broken keyboard, to spending 4 hours measuring, cutting, and replacing thermal pads, this job was definitely not worth what I charged.
Thankfully I have all of you amazing subscribers that watch my videos so I can offer repairs like this at a discount for people that deserve them.
But about other shops? Taking on repairs like these will put you out of business in no time, especially now.
    Thanks for watching!

Your videos got me brave enough to repair my old Alienware M17 R2 laptop. It wasn't my everyday for years now, and I figured that if I can repair actual commercial aircraft on the daily, it would be really sad if I couldn't replace a battery and top lid/screen on a 2019 dinosaur. Maybe someday I'll get up the courage to do some repasting.

The best part of this video was 10:30 minutes in. People have no clue the patience and time it takes working on some of this equipment. How easily it is to accidentally bust cable connector. I'm very good at what I do but still get anxiety after 42 years doing repairs on equipment like this. Right off the bat you know this are time consuming and need to charge correctly.

This video is underrated.. Amazing.. I own one of these are it is still my daily driver.. And I had to do the same fan repair on it.. It was a nightmare. I ended making a similar mistake with the WiFi attenae.. But I destroyed the cables themselves and not the card.. So it was a simpler replacement.. But I did end up going to a repair shop and getting it done.. Overall, thank god newer laptops aren't as bad these days with these kinds of repairs, but there needs to be more right to repair in serious.. Genuine parts needs to be accessible the same way companies commit to phone updates on software.. It should be anywhere from 5 to 10 years of guarantee parts.. Otherwise it's jus more e-waste and head hurting hunting for after market crappy parts, u never know if they are gonna work.. So much time and money lost.. Keep up the great work and loved that "4th" wall break u did there.

14:33 iirc. Windows only loads some drivers, depending on the hardware configuration it was installed/last booted on. Usually fine, but when the storage driver drastically changes (SATA vs. NVMe vs. VirtIO for example) it often causes problems. It's a common issue in VMs where even if the necessary drivers are installed switching out the virtual controller type can cause these sorts of problems.

I appreciate the 4th-wall-break there. I've been rocking an AW 17 R4 since ~2016 and it's a solid machine (if you can forgive the price tag). I've disassembled pretty much every part of it completely (except for the screen) and as much as it's a PITA to get to some of the deeper parts, it's been a joy to work on and a survived daily 16+ hour uptimes and daily trips to school/work the past 8 years.
I can see how someone that's just tearing into one can break things but compared to the likes of my old HP Pavilion dv7 (where the screen screw-mounts break off the case any time you try to service it to remove dust from it's pathetic fan), it's not hard to avoid breaking cables if you have 5 extra seconds to give it a lighter touch, a pair of functioning eyes, and a braincell left un-rotten (obviously no challenge for THE GREATEST TECHNICIAN THAT'S EVER LIVED).
Parts are definitely ass to get a hold of though, and my current (second replacement) battery shows clear signs of multiple sticker layers applied to hide its real origin and capacity. Time will tell how long my ebay fan replacements will last. R2R WHEN.

Had an old m15x from 2011. Was my only computer for half a decade. Even lugged it to school for research and stuff and gave me back pain for years. Survived multiple drops. Was a total workhorse. Would still be working now if I hadn't tried to do some maintenance and lost the threading on one of the tension screws on the heatsink. That and the dead battery and fraying AC cable. Replacement parts were hard to come by where I'm from.

When buying a new laptop, I had to pick between Alienware M18R1 (the new one), Lenovo Legion 7, Razer 18, some Asus and some HP laptop.
Did not take HP because the up/down arrow buttons are half-size, and at work it always was a big problem if they started bugging out.
Asus had a reputatiin of weak build that tends to break.
Lenovo and Razer had a power button right above backspace key.
I know that AW is hard to repair, but mine does it's job well, so hopefully I'll still work on it in several years. And on a good day it boots up faster than I can take my phone and unlock it.

ah this laptop. What a coinncidence, one ended up in my possession due to a daughterboard literally exploding and since I'm not an expert in soldering it's being taken apart. Good work on this one and thank you for being a good technician!

I used to carry one of these in my backpack on the way to school every day. My back muscles have never been so chiseled in my whole life.

Getting that back vent cover was the worst part of disassembling them and honestly the older one were worse. You don't kneed to write down screw sizes for Dell stuff cause they mark almost all of them.

I fixed r13 or r15 a few years ago I think just needed a charger port replaced as it was a first time for me to teardown an alienware laptop. So I managed to rebuild it without breaking anything so one happy customer since. I have done this in a couple of hours not days
