As a first Avatar song it should've been Bloody Angel, Hail the Apocalypse, Let it Burn or Torn Apart. Those are the songs that got me in to this band, esp Bloody Angel.

Avatar Country could be considered “goofy” I guess. It’s a concept album that does have more humor in it. The released a film based off the album as well. But. Some of their older stuff. Black Waltz for instance is pretty heavy throughout.

Avatar is one of the best and most underrated bands I have ever heard. Better live than recorded. They are good recorded obviously but watching them live is soooooooooooo much better.
A friend of mine took to me to see his favorite band Babymetal. Avatar, who I'd never heard of opened for them, and I walked away from that show that night majorly impressed with Avatar. They're a great band and one of my favorites now. The previous music is not "goofy" but they certainly went for a very dark-humor theatrical style for their videos for the last couple of albums, and they're always experimenting with their sound and style. I highly recommend their song "Hail The Apocalypse".
I wouldn’t say their music is goofy, I think he just probably means that they are a very theatrical band, I used to call it circus metal lol. It is definitely worth checking out their older stuff! You should also check out Vintersea, they are badass!

I think their songwriting is incredibly unique. Especially from their self-titled record onwards. They have pretty interesting riffs (especially on the songs "Death of Sound" and "What I Don't Know, and especially on "Hail the Apocalypse". That song is groovy as fuuuck) and can write some pretty catchy choruses. My favorite thing about Avatar is Johannes Eckerstrom's vocal range. He has a pretty distinct scream, and he can sing very well also. I would agree that their image isn't anything special, but they have good stage presence and their music is distinct in itself. If you want to hear "nothing stands out", listen to their first three albums. Generic (but enjoyable) melodeath. I'd prefer this sound over that one, and I because of that, I think your thing about "nothing standing out" is absolute bullshit.

This is the first time i have ever pre ordered music. They excited me about new metal music again. You have missed out, and when i discovered them for myself, i felt like i was missing out prior to hearing them !

But the makeup makes sense (to me) because their music operates like a Jester in a court - dark humor and biting commentary on life. I would recommend a song/video of theirs called The King’s Harvest - it looks cool and I love the groove of that song. And I don’t think it’s a VEVO video

Yea sure, bloody angel and smells like a freakshow is good, but musically, "When the snow lies red" is one if the best songs from these guys.
It's one of my favourite songs of all time, it's also not rare for my to cry during that song
