The wild thing about the fifth story is the reasons he gives for her being abusive. One of them is literally the fact that the OP's parents knew she was vegetarian and invited her to dinner, then fed her soup with chicken in it. She was apparently abusive because she got angry about it....

And when neither of us find anything, we're gonna try couples counseling to resolve this." I'd be perfectly fine with my partner using or looking at my phone. But I think it would feel a lot different when you know they're doing it because they dont trust you. Also, the point of possible projection is valid. But I think the OPs handling of this was extreme. Though at the same time, some pregnant mothers do end up reacting VERY poorly to the change of hormones, to the point of becoming abusive. So i do think there is a potential for extra context. But that's a maybe.

I also agree that it can be projection, but on the other hand, pregnancy dreams can be wildly vivid. If you woke up every day after spending the night in basically an alternative universe where he's cheating on you and you're hormones are all over the damn place, it may be hard to just get passed. I think if he said you go through mine, I go through yours, we confirm we aren't cheating, and then we head to marriage counseling. He is right that you can't have a marriage with no trust in it but I'm not sure going nuclear over some insecurity when you're wife is in a very vulnerable spot might be a bit much. My wife was like that during her pregnancies. Here's the thing... I get hormones are out of control, but if his situation is like my was, his wife went on like this for months on end. My wife insulted me, cussed me out left and right, was so convinced I was cheating that she wouldn't touch or talk to me for days on end. It fucked with me. At one point she literally got to the point that she told me that I was nothing but a leech on her life and emotions, worthless, and so dishonest that she didn't even want me around when our kid was born because she was so convince that I was cheating. There comes a point where someone has to put their foot down and stop accepting abuse. Hormones are not a justification to abuse or gaslight your spouse. I feel there's more to this story than what he's put in the story and that this is something that has been building up for a long time

@dissipatedcloud we are still together, but it was so bad at one point that I legitimately planned my suicide. The day I was going to do it, a coworker picked up on something being up and essentially wouldn't let me do anything or go anywhere alone. Post childbirth, she got into therapy and is on anti-depressants, but I'm honestly kind of anxious about if she decides to stop taking them. I agree that if it was a one off, this was overkill. However... knowing how men feel like they can't really talk about domestic situations and generally being subpar communicators when it comes to stuff like this in general, I can't help but feel there's more to this situation than what's written

That last story is WILD. Most teenagers generally aren't able to be diagnosed with any personality disorders because most struggle with empathy and taking accountability for their actions. I definitely did not treat my high school boyfriends as well as I should have, and they me...its why teenage romance rarely works. But to follow her, for years, and think that she'll "work on herself" and then come back to you is delusional. Its been a decade, she, like everyone else, has probably matured and grown into adults, and running to her fiancé with your sob story about how she treated you 10 years ago is insane. And he still wants to contact her again! WTF. This girl needs to block him on everything and get a restraining order. Jesus.

The first story reminded me of when I was in elementary school and had a dog with the name Cinnamon (because her fur was the color of cinnamon). We were playing out in the yard and I called her name. My dad had a little shop outside the house where he did tattoos and this woman he was doing a tattoo on thought I was talking to her. Me, being a shy kid ran back inside the house with my dog on my heels.

Once on a cruise with my sister, our mom, my niece and nephew, my sister asked me if I could take my nephew to the bathroom (my niece, the older of the two, was feeling a bit seasick), and I said sure. The little shit however, didn't want to go with me to the ladies room (I'm female, and he had done it before with my sister, especially when he was younger. He was like 5-6 for this story). Instead, he has me, 15-16 female, go with him to the mens room. I've never been so mortified in my life. I wanted to wait outside, but he insisted (I have ASD, and I don't do well when kids start crying), so I relented. After shooing him into a stall, I stood by the door and just looked up at the corner of the ceiling. I wanted the ground to swallow me at that moment. Sure a lot of the guys in there thought it was cute that I was taking care of my nephew, as they told me so, but that didn't make me feel better. And I still had 2 days on that damn ship, with those guys also on it. I almost wanted to stay in the cabin for the rest of the trip 😂
Plenty of Reddit stories about men cheating on their pregnant partners, a shocking amount actually. My ex never cheated on me before I was pregnant. Outside of killing your pregnant partner (which also happens at a shocking amount) cheating while pregnant is the WORST. Horrible and disgusting men! And then if/when you try to leave them for cheating, they become violent. Why women are choosing the bear!
Story 2: While OP definitely is the asshole, I disagree that not agreeing to look into each others phones is a red flag. I think privacy is very important in a relationship and a phone is a very private object. If both sides are cool with it all cool but if someone is not cool with it it should be respected and insisting on looking into it is a major concern because it means there is a lot of distrust and no respect for privacy. There should be absolute trust that my partner isn't hiding anything important from me. If my partner took my phone without asking it would be at least a major talking point about boundaries etc.. But of course leaving your pregnant wife for that is just crazy and the guy seemed like he was just searching for a way out.

I gotta be honest with the dude divorcing his wife... as a dude that dealt with a really challenging spouse during pregnancy, its not so simple. If his situation was like mine, he probably dealt with constantly being questioned and berated. After dealing with it for months, it becomes incredibly grating and it fucks with you. You literally start questioning yourself even when there is no reason to. Any time you have to go home, you immediately tense up and get stressed. You literally dread walking through the door and it gets to the point where you would rather do the most miserable, mundane things than go home and get questioned and belittled. Pregnancy is tough, and i am thankful that i will never go through it... but there is a point where you have to call it the abuse that it is. My guess is we didn't get the full history of arguments during pregnancy and this guy just hit his limit. That's all speculation though

I think it's more of a contextual thing. If it's like you can't remember where you left your phone, or you just wanna quickly search something up. Some people would be ok with you borrowing their phones for that. But when it's obviously the case that they're snooping and don't trust you. That hits a lot different.

Eh I think it’s fine to be done or divorced someone over looking at their phone- bc it’s not the phone that was the problem. She was accusing him cheating over and over again. Sure you can clear things up, but it starts to become hurtful overtime then she wanted to keep violating his privacy (if you allowed your partner to look at your phone no problem, that’s great! But some just need that feeling of privacy and trusting their partners to respect that). It’s not just looking at the phone, it’s everything that came before it. I think we also want to give the person some leeway because she’s pregnant. I get it, but the moment trust and respect is broken, the relationship is probably over with.

With the second story, it's more about trust and the wife wholeheartedly believing her husband was cheating on her. There have been stories of women leaving their partners because they did not trust them and actively searched for evidence of them cheating and/or the kid not being theirs. Even very similar to this story with people saying that since they did that, the trust was fully broken and not the asshole for breaking up with them even when a kid is involved. Don't remember how long ago but there was a guy would had trauma about finding out he wasn't his dad's son so when he was about to have a kid and had huge mental issues around it. I believe you guys called him an asshole when, in a lapse of judgment, he asked for a DNA test to calm his nerves cause it hurt his wife that he didn't trust him. Not a 1-to-1 but it's all about trust. Like how you come back from that, that your partner lost all fate in you and believed you cheated when you didn't.
I think the primary difference is (I assume) most people think this is coming from her pregnancy hormones, rather than some genuine mistrust, or even projection. But I definitely get the point I think you're making. If this was a dude asking for a paternity test, regardless of his history, he would be getting flamed because "how dare you not trust the mother of your child". And it does seem a bit wild to me that when talking about paternity tests, the biggest issue is the woman's feelings of hurt/offense. But here, you kinda gotta go out of your way to find comments saying that the dudes feelings matter too.
They never said it was logical or a good choice or even a correct behavior. They said that ending a marriage with a baby on the way over the hormonal insecurities of your wife WAS crazy, just like they said that the guy needing a patternity test should go to therapy and such, but not ever they recommended for his wife to ask for a divorce. These guys are usually very pro "working on your issues and your relationship" as a first approach. So in any case, in both stories they are taking the same stand: work on your sh*t, beacuse sh*t happens. Btw I was a hormonal wreck during my pregnancy and it was really hard. I thank the patience of my husband and his willingness to help me work on things even if we argued first. We then looked for ways to ammend and be better, because the relationship and the "long hall" was more important, hence the guys saying that this dude was falling out of love and wanting an out.

The first story reminded me of when I was in elementary school and had a dog with the name Cinnamon (because her fur was the color of cinnamon). We were playing out in the yard and I called her name. My dad had a little shop outside the house where he did tattoos and this woman he was doing a tattoo on thought I was talking to her. Me, being a shy kid ran back inside the house with my dog on my heels.

little egg tip for everyone. fill a tall glass with lukewarm water (not hot, not cold) drop a whole egg. in the shell. if it sinks quickly, it's fresh and good to eat. if it floats, it's bad and garbage. if it sinks but not quickly, maybe it's okay to cook thoroughly or bake with but don't eat raw/partially cooked etc. the presence of bacteria and resulting gases would make it float.

Once on a cruise with my sister, our mom, my niece and nephew, my sister asked me if I could take my nephew to the bathroom (my niece, the older of the two, was feeling a bit seasick), and I said sure.
The little shit however, didn't want to go with me to the ladies room (I'm female, and he had done it before with my sister, especially when he was younger. He was like 5-6 for this story).
Instead, he has me, 15-16 female, go with him to the mens room.
I've never been so mortified in my life. I wanted to wait outside, but he insisted (I have ASD, and I don't do well when kids start crying), so I relented.
After shooing him into a stall, I stood by the door and just looked up at the corner of the ceiling.
I wanted the ground to swallow me at that moment.
Sure a lot of the guys in there thought it was cute that I was taking care of my nephew, as they told me so, but that didn't make me feel better.
And I still had 2 days on that damn ship, with those guys also on it.
I almost wanted to stay in the cabin for the rest of the trip 😂

Story 2: While OP definitely is the asshole, I disagree that not agreeing to look into each others phones is a red flag.
I think privacy is very important in a relationship and a phone is a very private object. If both sides are cool with it all cool but if someone is not cool with it it should be respected and insisting on looking into it is a major concern because it means there is a lot of distrust and no respect for privacy. There should be absolute trust that my partner isn't hiding anything important from me. If my partner took my phone without asking it would be at least a major talking point about boundaries etc.. But of course leaving your pregnant wife for that is just crazy and the guy seemed like he was just searching for a way out.

I moved to a province (probably the only one and yep everything is backwards in this place I am now) that does not use that term after living in one that did for many yrs, for a long time ppl looked it me like I had two heads anytime I'd say corner store, took awhile to realize they don't use it here and just know them as convenient stores so they were always wondering why I was talking about a corner.

I gotta be honest with the dude divorcing his wife... as a dude that dealt with a really challenging spouse during pregnancy, its not so simple. If his situation was like mine, he probably dealt with constantly being questioned and berated. After dealing with it for months, it becomes incredibly grating and it fucks with you. You literally start questioning yourself even when there is no reason to. Any time you have to go home, you immediately tense up and get stressed. You literally dread walking through the door and it gets to the point where you would rather do the most miserable, mundane things than go home and get questioned and belittled. Pregnancy is tough, and i am thankful that i will never go through it... but there is a point where you have to call it the abuse that it is.
My guess is we didn't get the full history of arguments during pregnancy and this guy just hit his limit. That's all speculation though

Phone OP is definitely an asshole, however why should people look through eachothers phones? Friends text me all the time with private stuff they are dealing with.
I discuss birthday and Christmas presents over text. Looking through my phone wouldn't be a reason for me to break up with you but it does feel kind of rude and invasive
I think it's more of a contextual thing. If it's like you can't remember where you left your phone, or you just wanna quickly search something up. Some people would be ok with you borrowing their phones for that.
But when it's obviously the case that they're snooping and don't trust you. That hits a lot different.

I'm just speaking for myself, but when I say that my partner and I have access to each other's phones, that doesn't mean we're reading each other's texts and stuff. It just means that we can use each other's phones for stuff if we need to or send stuff between phones without having to ask each other. But we've been together 10 years so I don't think either of us are overly interested in reading each other's texts 😂

Eh I think it’s fine to be done or divorced someone over looking at their phone- bc it’s not the phone that was the problem. She was accusing him cheating over and over again. Sure you can clear things up, but it starts to become hurtful overtime then she wanted to keep violating his privacy (if you allowed your partner to look at your phone no problem, that’s great! But some just need that feeling of privacy and trusting their partners to respect that). It’s not just looking at the phone, it’s everything that came before it.
I think we also want to give the person some leeway because she’s pregnant. I get it, but the moment trust and respect is broken, the relationship is probably over with.
Apparently in the update that he deleted he said he wanted to leave and he took the opportunity and in responses allude or imply he's cheated its in another comment

With the second story, it's more about trust and the wife wholeheartedly believing her husband was cheating on her. There have been stories of women leaving their partners because they did not trust them and actively searched for evidence of them cheating and/or the kid not being theirs. Even very similar to this story with people saying that since they did that, the trust was fully broken and not the asshole for breaking up with them even when a kid is involved. Don't remember how long ago but there was a guy would had trauma about finding out he wasn't his dad's son so when he was about to have a kid and had huge mental issues around it. I believe you guys called him an asshole when, in a lapse of judgment, he asked for a DNA test to calm his nerves cause it hurt his wife that he didn't trust him. Not a 1-to-1 but it's all about trust. Like how you come back from that, that your partner lost all fate in you and believed you cheated when you didn't.
I think the primary difference is (I assume) most people think this is coming from her pregnancy hormones, rather than some genuine mistrust, or even projection.
But I definitely get the point I think you're making. If this was a dude asking for a paternity test, regardless of his history, he would be getting flamed because "how dare you not trust the mother of your child". And it does seem a bit wild to me that when talking about paternity tests, the biggest issue is the woman's feelings of hurt/offense. But here, you kinda gotta go out of your way to find comments saying that the dudes feelings matter too.
The guy in the story you're referencing had other issues that getting a DNA test wouldn't have fixed so it's not an even comparison at all
They never said it was logical or a good choice or even a correct behavior. They said that ending a marriage with a baby on the way over the hormonal insecurities of your wife WAS crazy, just like they said that the guy needing a patternity test should go to therapy and such, but not ever they recommended for his wife to ask for a divorce. These guys are usually very pro "working on your issues and your relationship" as a first approach. So in any case, in both stories they are taking the same stand: work on your sh*t, beacuse sh*t happens. Btw I was a hormonal wreck during my pregnancy and it was really hard. I thank the patience of my husband and his willingness to help me work on things even if we argued first. We then looked for ways to ammend and be better, because the relationship and the "long hall" was more important, hence the guys saying that this dude was falling out of love and wanting an out.
