Especially back before there was instagram and other forms of social media. It was absolutely disgusting. One of the good things about social media is that most paparazzi lost their jobs. There really isn't much need for it anymore especially since so many celebrities are on platforms like instagram, twitter, snapchat etc. I feel like what happened to Britney in the early aughts wouldn't have happened if we'd had all this technology back then and I'm 36 so I remember that time period very very well. It was absolutely heartbreaking. 💔

Mono is a really serious illness, typically caused by the Epstien-Barr virus. It usually lasts much longer than a week or two... more like 4-6 weeks, and sometimes up to 6 months! I missed almost 7 weeks of school when I had it and almost had to repeat the year. Sometimes I feel like I never fully bounced back (feeling tired all the time).
It's a really rough illness and it makes me sad that she was so sick and her mother told her she looked her best. That is pretty terrible parenting. I also wonder if she felt like she needed the adderall because of how tired she felt from the Mono.

9:20 I had a friend die from mono so I feel compelled to say this: I know this is an "old" video and very few people will see my comment, but I want to clarify something.
Despite the nickname, mono has been known to be contagious via airborne spread for nearly 20 years in the medical community.
I won't go into details on how it caused me to lose my friend (unless someone asks for details below) but it was not weight loss such as Amanda experienced.
To summarize; you can get mono regardless of saliva exchange, and it is something to address and monitor by a professional until *all* symptoms are gone.

@@beccabowen4292 I appreciate you taking the time to read all of that. I can relate to long hospital stays (though most were after I turned 18) however, I can imagine an extra level of awful if you didn't have "a parent or guardian" with you the entire time - the "we'll need to speak with your parents first" is still a common deflection from having to anything beyond the bare minimum.
I know this because they still try it on *me* - because I LOOK young (especially in a tent of a hospital gown) but FFS my birthdate is on my wristband, the chart on my bed (which have to pick up an initial to confirm they checked in on me) AND my medical file.
      ----
Back to the main topic though; even if it was a miserable experience I'm glad that you were able to get the proper diagnosis and the medical treatment that you needed in time.

If I was a regular person seeing them harass someone like that regardless if it’s a celeb I’d be like ummm who tf do you think you are? Watching that guy be so dramatic with Amanda gave me the urge to punch him in the throat. Based on that video I truly don’t believe she got violent with him/scratched him like he says she did, you would’ve heard a lot more tumble and rumble with the camera, not just seeing it move around, and also based on the human body and how it reacts she would’ve looked much more disheveled and shaken with adrenaline when she was walking away if she got physical like he said. I think she was just trying to get him to delete the photo and he played the ultimate victim. Paparazzi make me sick sometimes man.

    • @iPhoneRepairGirl
      @iPhoneRepairGirl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +80

I agree, & I think a part of what we’ve seen of her that has appeared as questionable behavior, has been her reverting back to the things that gained her popularity and love and support as a child. Like her wearing eccentric wigs, her saying things that are obviously off-the-wall, etc seems to me like she had some drug-induced mania which led her to trying to get back that love & support from her childhood the public gave her, in some of the same ways. Like the Amanda Show was all her doing & saying wacky off the wall things, so I think she tried being goofy again hoping it would read as funny or wholesome & instead as an adult we the public without context took it as bizarre, sometimes seemingly deranged behavior. I just keep thinking about how she was taught, trained, and paid to behave in a way all throughout her childhood that when she taps into as an adult, just like any regular person going through high stress periods can revert back to their childhood survival skills to cope, it comes across as something else. A lot of people who are addicted to drugs basically function socially the same as they did as children, & you can literally see it in Amanda’s case.

Whether what he said, although sounding positive imo (could've been sarcastic to provoke a response) was still ultimately all legal.
So, grabbing the camera, and then (allegedly) scratching him? No, she didn't have every right?
I sympathise with what she was going through and knowing all that, I would wish people would afford her that leeway but here she then had a go at the guy? It's still wrong, still be responsible for your actions, and could even see it as it playing into their favour- he then writes a story about her assaulting him.

He deserved to be hurt way worse by her and he dare call her crazy... he's is the crazy one refusing to put the camera down while she's asking for him to stop. She took it from him and was sane enough to realize she should still give it back as the promise he would stop atleast and he puts it back in to her face... what did he expect to happen? She was all of the sudden be fine with it? He was the crazy person in that situation atleast. i’m in no way insulting her appearance when i say this but i would speculate part of the way her face looked at her worst point was probably due to eating disordered behaviours, most notably purging. sure she always had a cute heart shaped face as a kid but at the time when she started using adderal for weight loss her cheeks started to look puffier than they hand been, which is a symptom a lot of people who purge their food experience. I know when I was really bad with an ed i was so self conscious about my “chubby face” (i’d always had a heart shaped face too like amanda) and when i lost weight I couldn’t figure out why my face still looked so “chubby”, only for em later to realise all the self induced vomiting i was doing basically every day had swollen glands in my cheek which would puff out my face. My heart absolutely breaks for amanda, i’ve been through a lot of what she has but thankfully not in the public eye, I have no idea how she managed to keep it together.

The sad thing is, if she actually had a support system she may not be where she is now. If her mother actually acted like a mother and never made that stupid comment that confirmed Amanda’s thought that she was only “of value when skinny” then Amanda wouldn’t have gotten into the eating disorder. If she had good friends she wouldn’t have spiraled so much... it’s just so sad that instead of helping her people either judged her or made her feel worse.

it's possible that people tried to help her and she pushed them away. i've had that happen to me before. you can't help someone who won't admit that they have a problem. my uncle is an alcoholic and we tried interventions but he refused to admit that he needed help. he kept lashing out at us, really hurting my mom and his daughters, and eventually ran away. when he finally came back it was of his own accord, after being estranged from his family for years due to his own choices. i feel really bad for amanda, she obviously needed help, but some people actively resist being helped.

She could make people laugh, hold a crowd, AND maintain a wholesomeness about her. It was so admirable. I loved Lindsay Lohan too, don’t get me wrong, but I was a kid so Amanda was more my speed at the time. I wish people like them and Britney Spears, Paris Hilton (just watched her doc and it’s heartbreaking) the list goes on, could see themselves through our eyes. Hell for that matter, I wish we could all look at ourselves through someone else’s eyes.✨

So this is weird. I was looking back at articles from this period....read a lot, and damn you did such an overwhelming good job on your research. I am blown away at the time you put into it to give a complete picture. It's the public descent into mental illness on the world stage. Breaks my heart badly. Sad story, phenomenal job on this video

I hate these camera men. She didn’t consent to a picture.
Edit to add: I wish I had as much confidence as Mila does in herself when she swings that wine glass.

You don't have to consent to a picture on public property sadly

@@niamh3610 legally, yeah sure. Ethically? That’s different. Obviously he could have just walked away when he saw she wasn’t up for banter and it wouldn’t have escalated.

@@annacress4596 never said it was ethically correct, hence the "sadly" at the end of my sentence.
