This is really cool to learn about this show. Honestly I feel like I want to watch it now.
If I may ask (and I mean no offense), did you accidentally shave off a part of your left eyebrow or is it naturally smaller? It’s kind of cool having a unique feature like that, but I just want to ask since I noticed it was hard to tell with the other covered before you pushed your hair back. Also you are very pretty, even without all the makeup (apparently, since I didn’t nice your wore a lot). You shouldn’t wear makeup if you think it makes you look better; your pretty either way.

Huge Laguna Beach and the hills fan here.The show Laguna was originally going to be filmed in school but after the nipplegate scandal between Janet Jackson and Justin, so many parents complained about it, that the school refused to aloud camera crews inside the school so it was shot with them hanging out in their homes and when they were out and about, which actually did the show a huge favour because it meant that they no longer had restrictions on topics of conversation as well as they could show alcohol and drug use.
The reason Lauren hated Spencer so much in the beginning, before sex tape rumor, was due to the fact that her ex Jason, even though he hated Heidi, Lauren never let it get between their friendship, and told Jason to not badmouth her and that he didn't have to like her, but he had to tolerate her because Heidi wasn't going anywhere. But Heidi did not do the same thing for Lauren in regards to Spencer not liking her. Heidi began blowing Lauren off all the time and didn't call out Spencer when he talk bad about her. Lauren could see how he was using and manipulating Heidi. The sex tape rumor was the straw that broke the camel back and the fact that Heidi refused to believe Lauren and their friends group when they informed her it was Spencer that started that rumor. This was why Lauren was soo hurt, because she never let a guy get between their friendship but Heidi did.

Lauren wasn't always in the right during The Hills or Laguna Beach BUT she is definitely one of the smartest reality tv stars out there. She used her time on tv very wisely and built an empire - which is why she didn't have to go back to reality tv like some of her costars...🙄 (P.S. Whitney was another one who was smart with her time)

@@danip2476 I wasn't aware that there was actually a question about who was awful after the whole s tape rumour was started. Heidi and Spencer were so awful. The only thing I ever side eyed was how Lauren expected Heidi to never speak Spencer's name around her and thought that Heidi would want to hang out with Lauren over Spencer. When girls get new loves they pretty much _have_ to talk about them. It was a really weird dynamic because the show was trying to make Heidi the bad guy but if you looked closer Lauren was being really demanding and unseasonable. Oh, and when Lo was so mean to Audrina & Lauren just let her.

I was the one of the poorer kids at a rich high school, and the rich kids wanted to be LC and Kristen SO BADLY, they actually convinced their parents to get them hotel rooms for parties, and sent them to Cabo for senior year. It was insane to watch, I couldn’t believe parents actually let their kids party like that!

Growing up in The East Bay. My friends were all allowed to go to San Diego for Halloween and South Padre island for Spring break. My Mom took me to Monterey, Carmel and Solvang. We had a Blast!!! So many Adventures!!! And a new wardrobe!! Totally Fun;!!
Of course I forgot to mention it in the video but Heidi's music has gained a cult following in recent years and a lot of artists (namely bedroom pop artists) credit Superficial as one of their biggest influences! AND Whitney and her husband (who worked on her spinoff, The City!) are posting reaction videos to every episode of the Hills on their channel!! (go watch I love them sm)

I can’t even imagine how Heidi’s mom felt watching her daughter change everything about herself because of tabloids. Like that’s the kid you raised and gave your features to. And yeah Heidi was an adult and could make her own choices. But it seems like Heidi didn’t even really want to, and only felt compelled to.
just learned that heidi was 23 when she got her surgeries. that makes the story feel more sad to me. i think it’s one thing when someone who’s a little older and has had time to mature into themselves and their features chooses to get cosmetic surgery, and another when someone so young and at such a vulnerable stage of young adulthood takes such drastic and dangerous methods.
True, but she's still legal adult. Think about all the kids that are mutilated at much younger because someone told them that ex. cutting breast off will help with their depression.

@@plastermioduif you are talking about transgender people, then your experience seems to be very different from all others I have heard. Most children who „transition“ do so in a social sense only. That usually means different hair, a different name and different clothes. There are teenagers who take puberty blockers, but those don’t mutilate them, they delay the development of some things that puberty usually causes so that the teens have less to undo if they decide to transition later in life.
Any medical intervention is only possible after many consultations and parental consent. At least this is the case in Europe and the US, I haven’t read too much outside of that, but I assume it is similar. In the mean time, most transgender children and teens can do reversible things like name changes. Since für adults transitioning, medical and social things are often talked about in the same breathe, it is reasonable to wonder what is going on with minors who transition, but there many ways to transition partially without doing any permanent harm to your body.
This has been my understanding from medical experts and people I have talked to. If you have reliable sources that say otherwise, please let me know so I can look into them.
BTW Lauren has mentioned multiple times that the ‘phone call’ Spencer made to her apologizing wasn’t real! She wasn’t on the other end of that call lol

Holly (Heidi's sister) was an alcoholic during the show but recovered and is sober. So good for her!

The Hils was truly iconic 2000s reality TV. Period. Also, can we say that Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" (the song of the opening titles) became an anthem for many of us who watched that show? Like, for real, she's now making bank of that song again bc of that new trend on TikTok and even the 2019 remix for New Beginnings is cute too.
jersey shore was the foil to the hills, when it premiered it captivated america unlike any other reality tv.. people loved how extremely authentic it was.

As a Canadian who was obsessed with the Hills in elementary school - I have to give a shout-out to Dan Levy (of Schitts Creek) who hosted The After Show on MTV Canada and would recap the episodes immediately following them airing. It was honestly better than the episode most of the time. He later said in an interview hosting the show ruined the song Unwritten for him, which I can completely understand.

I had two plastic surgeries(post gastric bypass), in one day, and that took around eight hours. When I got out, I was so swollen from the liquids, it was at least a week before my fingers stopped looking like sausages. I had that done on a Wednesday, out of the hospital on Thursday, off the pain meds during the day/just taking Tylenol by Saturday or Sunday. I do wonder how her doc did all that in one day OR was it made up to get top bill in the tabloids. Because wasn’t there a massive ethical discussion on whether it should have done all that? I could have sworn he got in trouble.
i've had plastic surgery . they usually onlydo 2 surgeries in one packet, so nose job and boobs for example. now that I think about it, i think this was faked for the ratings. maybe she did get a bunch of plastic surgery but not in one day. or maybe she didn't .
when she said she did all that i knew it was fake i remember around that time they where doing the most to get heidi to be a superstar and would do/say anything just to get on tabloids
I’ve had 4 plastic surgeries at once (2 major and 2 minor) and know girls who’ve done a lot more than ten at a time (albeit by shady doctors who probably shouldn’t have done them all as they struggled to recover) but I do know that they won’t do facial stuff alongside anything with your butt, since you have to sit upright after facial contouring and sleep propped up for a couple weeks after whereas you’d have to lay on your stomach to recover from butt augmentation

@@hiiij9638 in South Korea it’s quite common to get a lot at once if you’re a tourist, since people don’t want to keep travelling and want it all at once. I know there’s an old Chinese reality show about plastic surgery where this girl got 15 procedures in one trip and her transformation inspired a lot of other Chinese women to go there rather than be worried by the amount of surgery, you have to be very careful there since the doctors will unfortunately take advantage of foreigners like that..
I had heard that Heidi specifically sought Lauren out after Laguna Beach because she wanted to make friends with her to become famous. Even going as far as enrolling at FIDM just to be on the show.

I remember when I was a kid Heidi's 10 surgeries in a day were in HEADLINES everywhere. I wasn't allowed to watch the show back then but I knew about Lauren Conrad and Speidi that's how impactful The Hills were back in the day.

I totally remember when Heidi got all of her plastic surgery and how shocking it was! She looked nothing like herself. I remember feeling bad for her over anything else. She just seemed insecure and sad at the time, and that interview she did around the time was also sad. Plus, to be stuck with a total jerk like Spencer, ugh! Poor Heidi!
Also, I had no idea about that story that Spencer tried to get in The Hills before ever meeting Heidi! It really makes you question his motives even MORE than everyone already did at the time. Wow! Didn't think I could dislike Spencer any more than I already did 🤢🤮

I learned this once, and never did it again.

The Hills was basically MY LIFE as a teen. Anytime they released a DVD, a magazine had a cast member on it or a cast member released some sort of item I had to have it. I've been watching the reboot but basically out of nostalgia and because I actually still ~liked most of the cast.
The "women hating women" s*it was strong on this show 🙄. Kristen even talked about it in a podcast with Lauren. They were laughing about how little drama they had and how much time they spent together behind the scenes.

You should do SKINS UK. A controversial show that dealt with more real teen problems, and was written and stared in by teens. Once a season ended they got a new batch of seniors for a whole new storyline. MTV US tried to copy the show and aired it online but cancelled it after 1 season.

I just wasn’t allowed to watch Jersey Shore. I watched Laguna Beach and The Hills and The City with my mom and sisters. I actually watched Jersey Shore for the first time in 2019 or something and let me tell you, I finally understood why my classmates suddenly started dressing and acting differently in junior high.
