I love mine too. But there comes a time when it needs to be accepted that an eight-year-old console isn't worth making new games for.
The 3DS is great but the Switch is subjectively a better console overall. More exciting games, a better piece of hardware, and a cool gimmick that the Wii U couldn’t perfect.

I won’t lie, I thought Extra Epic Yarn was a sequel and got excited. I was very disappointed when I found out it wasn’t.

I'll also note that the 3DS is up there with the PS2 as one of the best late purchases you can possibly make. Like, seriously, some of the best handheld RPGs ever made are either for the 3DS or can be played on the 3DS via backwards compatibility. Seriously, if you're gaming on a budget, this is a top tier console.

Don't include me in "everyone". I absolutely love my 3DS, and I would happily buy games for it indefinitely.
It's much more portable than the Switch, it has some neat features, and you can play the absolute best game library on it: the original DS, with the 3DS library being pretty awesome as well, not to mention the downloadable and Virtual Console games.

Sure, it doesn't have the processing power of Switch, but it's good enough to run CPU-heavy games like Pokemon USUM and Xenoblade Chronicles on a steady 30 fps.

I don’t understand this extreme prejudice towards the 3DS. Do I feel it’s run its course? In some ways, yes. The console is turning eight this year, and while it’s nice to see it still get support, the idea of it retiring continues to loom.
I don’t really know if this says anything, but back a couple years ago, if I remember correctly, I could rack up quite a few Streetpasses whenever I went downtown. Now I’m lucky to get one. Maybe it has to do with the community I live in, but it is kind of sad to see love for the system die down.
Admittedly, I do find myself using my Switch much more these days, but I still like to go back to the older handhelds. As for Extra Epic Yarn, while I do kind of wish it also got a Switch port, I’m enjoying it a lot, and I haven’t even played the new minigames yet. From what I have played so far, I guess it can seem a little...lacking?
There’s apparently this new mode that supposedly makes the levels harder, but I haven’t really gotten around to trying it aside from the demo. There’s also the new abilities, which is admittedly kind of cool to see, and I have used them, but it was mainly for times where I just wanted to get gold since I’ve decided to challenge myself. However, they tend to make an already leisurely game into a much easier experience. As a result, I jokingly like to refer to it as Baby Mode.
Overall, I know it’s kind of a roundabout way of saying it, but I guess I’m not sure where I lie on the whole 3DS debate. I can see where both sides are coming from, but I just can’t draw the line. Call me apathetic, but it’s just how I feel.
At the very least, Epic Yarn is as adorable as ever and admittedly, it’s warmed my heart more than ever. Both versions are good. However, I will give the 3DS version points for making the train sections at the very least bearable haha.
Anyway I know I’ve taken up a lot of time. Thank you for reading this far and listening to me ramble about stupid stuff.
I never used Streetpass as it's fairly uncommon in my country and I still play my new 3ds xl daily. Switch games are too expensive IMHO and the 3DS has a far bigger traditional ( = indie games excluded) game library (and more quality titles IMHO).
Plus, nintendo games were never about the graphics.

Probably the same reason they released "Kirby's Adventure" on NES when the SNES had been out for three years. Of course, the difference is "Kirby's Adventure" was an original game that pushed the limits of the older hardware just to show off.
Yeah but here's the difference one was a game that was released 9 years ago before this port. It's mostly known for it's impressive art style, so releasing on WEAKER hardware compare to the Wii while there's better hardware out there seems outright pointless and unnecessary. Even if we're not going from a graphical stand point they still removed many features, as stated in the video. Also speaking of Kirby's Adventure, that game also got a port/remake to the Gba. But the difference is that Gba game at least tried to expand and improve the game. Sure Kirby extra epic yarn tried adding new content, but good features from the wii version were sacrificed for mediocre at best features.

People play on old systems all the time. That isn’t the issue. The bigger issue is that people want Nintendo to focus on new games for switch. A system that will do new games and remakes a better service due to its power. The 3DS has a gigantic library, does it need anymore exclusives?
Games like Luigi’s mansion and epic yarn would have been better off on switch because of both the power and for Luigi’s mansion’s case, having 2 analog sticks as well as more buttons overall would be more beneficial. Epic yarn lost co op for some reason and doesn’t even utilize the bottom screen well.

@@Tim-007 Any 3DS game last year got to a million sold, the Bowser Inside Story remake is one of the worse selling Mario games of all time (and games like Luigi's Mansion didn't sell great either) and even Nintendo admitted that the 3DS is slowing down fast.

I'm not debating that the Switch is the overall more capable console. I'm just saying that I'd be happy with more games on the 3DS for as long as people care to make games for it. I'm a fan of the setup and features. I like the two screens. I like having a stylus for touch screen use. I like the 3D when it's implemented. I enjoyed street pass.
And in the end, I'll play games on any console so long as they're engaging. Doesn't matter how old they are.

I honestly don't understand why people are surprised and/or question why the 3DS still has games. It's probably still made a decent enough amount to keep it alive. Not to mention it's natural for a console to have mainly ports at the end of its' life cycle. The PS2, in its' final years, had nothing but games from the PSP and Wii due to their similarities in graphical capabilities. It probably didn't cost Nintendo too much to port Epic Yarn to the 3DS, so why the heck not do it?
It probably wouldn't have cost more to port Epic Yarn to the Switch either, if anything, the concessions they had to make in order for the game to run on the 3DS (it even runs at half the framerate) probably made the port a little harder to make, and on the Switch the game would've most likely sold more due to a more active player base.
It's not "Megaman & Bass only through download on SNES" bad, but the game would've still sold more on more recent hardware.
I feel like using the argument that the 3DS is almost dead against this game while recommending the Wii version in the next sentence doesn't really make much sense. I agree that the Wii version is better by far, but the Wii is much more dead
Aaaaaaaaaand your point is? A console can be old and still be played on. The older game can be better with the console being dead. The wii being dead has nothing to do with the games.
On the other hand, the 3ds being dead isn't a factor against the game, just its sales. Almost no one (that doesn't still play the 3ds, is a kirby hardcore fan, or youtuber) played it because the console is getting boring now. Therefore, the sales plummet and there isn't much reason for the game to really exist other than nintendo being portrigger-happy recently. That's why he brought it up.

...LastPass is like...the anti-security. The second someone figures it out, they have access to everything.
Gotta love how, despite all this desire to be secure, something that makes you less secure is selling so well because *convenience.*
Only problem with that is Lastpass doesn't have access to anything, they don't even get the data on their servers, as all of the real info is encrypted and decrypted locally by your own computer/phone because of that very reason, and they use salted hashes. Almost all password managers work the same way, plus with 2FA, getting your data is only really possible if you actually leave your email open for someone to use, which is obviously the last thing you want to do.
I don't think you get the point of a password manager. LastPass allows you to have one really secure password that is hard to guess/crack but can be remembered, as well as using 2fa mobile authentication meaning you have to not only know the password, you have to have access to the victim's phone too, which is extremely unlikely.
Plus LastPass's business is built on security. I am more trusting with my password to a company who's sole purpose is to protect your password than some small startup website which may be storing passwords in plaintext.
And yes, it is more convenient for you to use LastPass, but your 20-30 character string of random letters, numbers & symbols is 100x harder to crack than any other password.
Now, I'm not saying LastPass is the bastion of security, it's more secure than using the same/similar password everywhere, yes, but there are better options. If you're willing to use a little processing power, or have a spare PC lying around, you can set up a home server and there are several local password vaults you can get with encryption on your local machine/server which is much more secure than either of the two options.
(Or, just keep a copy of your passwords on a USB flash drive...)
Either way, the point of LastPass is to memorise (Or store...) One really Long, hard-to-crack password, instead of multiple memorable ones. The goal is to make it impossible to figure out in the first place.
Ah, I see you have no idea how LastPass works. But thanks for your completely dumb comment that would only promote people to utilise far less safe methods, like browser-based password saving, or worse, just using the same password a million times because it's easy to remember. Nothing says, "I'm a smart person" like discouraging people from using much safer methods of password creation and storage that will make them less likely to be victims of hackers who get access to their passwords.

To be fair about the 3DS, just because people wanted it dead years ago doesn't mean that it was just gonna go away and suddenly not exist anymore. For one, these games were probably in the middle of development around the time the 3DS pessimism was starting, and just outright cancelling these projects would be missed opportunities anyway (like, imagine the game titles get leaked after cancellation with note of the fact they were cancelled to assure people the games aren't happening, and the fans start wishing the games got released). Second, I heard something about a fiscal year goal Nintendo had, and I think keeping the 3DS alive until then was part of a strategy, which I feel makes sense.

@@jowysw If you're referring to the strategy part, I'm pretty sure around the time the pessimism was starting, the 3DS was still selling units and games better than it was this year. Having a backup plan is always necessary. I doubt the 3DS will continue into 2020 based on how well the Switch has done.
@@ivoryvt I understood the 2017 (and even the 2018) 3DS support (even if some 3DS games felt more questionable) but when they said with a straight face that they would do 3DS games beyond 2019 I couldn't help but laugh.
I said back then that 3DS sales probably wouldn't be big enough to continue supporting it for that long and that any 3DS game beyond 2019 was going to be send out to die. And people attacked me for saying that (even though time prove me right). And if I, a person with no knowledge in sales predictions, could see this coming...
When you have a newer console that is pumping much more exciting games, people will go for that much more (even if it is more expensive). And, when the newer console is accepted as the new norm, the old ones sales start to decline sharply. That is exactly what happened with the 3DS.
And No-one here is saying that the 3DS is a bad console suddenly like some people say to make people that are not reacting well to newer 3DS look bad. But, let's be honest here, the 3DS is not that exciting anymore. So, when a 3DS game comes, the first thing people ask is why that game is not on the shiny new console. I just said the 3DS isn't selling it's games and that is the point of a console. Why put games on 3DS when those aren't selling and you have another platform where those games could actually do good? A console has to die at somw point and I think that saying that it should die when games are not selling on it is not being unreasonable.

The 3DS is my favorite Nintendo console, and I love all of my 3DS games, but you gotta face the facts. The Switch is more powerful than the 3DS, so the games they pump out on it can have more content than before. It’s got better controllers(I mean technically the 3DS is it’s controller but you know what I mean), better technology, better resolution, better everything, practically. The only thing the 3DS has on the Switch is battery life and two screens.
Nothing will ever top the 3DS and it’s remarkable library for me, but the Switch marks the next big step for Nintendo. If they wanna move forward and push the gaming industry past its limits, they’ve gotta stop trying to do that on old hardware

Adventure came out 3 years after the SNES released and Super Star came out the same year as the N64, but, ye, I see your point. Also, Mass Attack released the same year as the 3DS. So, uh, Kirby kinda has a tradition of being late.

Well someone is presumptuous about everybody's outlook on the 3DS, I'm not sure it should die. I think the way they're handling it now has zero impact on Switch development and keeps the 3DS locked/supportive consumers happy. I'll be the first to admit Switch is a better platform, but there's still some things I love about the 3DS line that the Switch doesn't have that keeps me supporting it.
I feel like if epic yarn was ported to the switch people would be complaining that it just added a few new features and it's basically the same thing on a TV (if the switch is docked). I don't mind that it came out on 3DS, I don't have a switch and I just jumped on the 3DS bandwagon so I'm happy to see it getting just a liiittle bit more support.
@@keldyshka They did that with other ports on Switch (like NSMBUD) and those actually sold (unlike this 3DS ports).

Ok I only recently subscribed to you and I have to say you are by far one of my favorite game reviewers. The tone and delivery of the lines just have so much charm.
Actually the script reading is way worse when compared to, say, 3kliksphilip or PeanutButterGamer. There just isn't as much emotions in them, I guess.

I agree with you review but the way you keep insisting the 3DS should die bothers me. I have a Switch and i still love my 3DS and play it on break at work. We should not focus on killing off systems but encouraging developers to keep making games because in the end the more quality games we get the better.
Because developers love wasting time money and resources on a dying system. Did you pay attention when he mentioned how awful the Bowser’s Inside Story remaster did? Most people have moved on.

I agree, I really love the 3DS and it has alot of great games. Its a bit easier to carry around than a switch and has longer battery. Alot of the games that go with it are great too. I'm going to miss once it has games stopped being developed for it!

I really like the 3ds, I've spent so much time with it. You have no idea how many hours I've spent playing Yokai Watch and Monster Rancher on it. I just don't play my Switch that often unless its for Smash, Disgaea, or Dragonball FighterZ. So i just can't comprehend it when people say that they want the 3ds to die. (Maybe when i graduate from my Senior year of High School I may have a different opinion due to the fact that carrying around my Switch there is very difficult, I also play with my friends with my 3ds so that just furthers my attachment to the device.)
It's fine if you want to play the 3ds that's not what we're trying to say, we are saying hey game developers, stop making new games for the 3DS, you're losing money, time and resources that you could've spent on making a Switch version instead.
This isn't really developing a new game. Also the Switch has plenty of support, a couple of team looking into the 3DS isn't going to change anything

VideoGameTyler Most people are fans of the 3DS, but I think they just want Nintendo and other developers to put these resources into Switch games. The reason this request only exists now is because the Handheld and Home Console were separate things before the Switch, but since that exists, the 3DS is kinda superfluous other than for people who can’t afford a Switch, which is probably the only reason why Nintendo still makes and supports it. I’m not desperate for the system to die either, but at this point, there isn’t even anything new being made for it, so I feel the ideal strategy for the 3DS at this point is to keep making it until the Switch is cheap enough for the need of a cheaper handheld to be nonexistent, but don’t make any games for it. It doesn’t sound like that would work given that there wouldn’t be any new games to advertise, but this is Nintendo. They don’t care about how old a game is, it just has to help push sales numbers and they’ll advertise it alongside the system it’s on until they stop advertising the system.

You know i understand that the 3ds is dying and the switch is thriving but you should not dismiss a game because it's on a system thats dieing. I have a Switch but I still love my 3DS, so more new games is a welcome sight. The 3DS is actually portable in the sense you can have it in your pocket while the Switch is too big so you basically need a bag to take it with you.
Edit: Fixed it myself when I had free time, might still need to replace the L and R buttons, but they still work.

Since I've always been a few gens behind with gaming in general i'm so happy to be behind now with 3DS and still be able to go to the store to pick up a game. it can be a real challenge when all your games have to be found used.
Not to diss your script but I think while it’s severely underrated Yokai Watch 3 is the 3DS’s life support because while it probably was already outsold by Extra Epic Yarn, it’s a super fun series I already have over 100 hours in 3

I am completely ignorant of that series, but is there any reason that game couldn't come to a more current system, like the Switch?
They tried to localise it before, but they couldn't because they couldn't get the trademark in Europe. Some German company objected to it because one of their products had the name "Galaxy" in it. But a few months ago they finally came to an agreement.
The game makes heavy use of the touchscreen so it wouldn't really work on the Switch, and the game has been out for quite a while now in Japan. They are also making a sequel for the Switch, PS4 and Mobile, but it has been stuck in development hell for quite a while now, it has been delayed several times.
Another problem with porting the game over would be the fans, Inazuma Eleven is a long running series and Galaxy is the 6th instalment, if they would port it over there will definitely be quite a few angry fans that rather had Inazuma Eleven 1 or 2 ported over.
But it wouldn't be the first time, the 3rd game in the series also took very long to be localised, so they actually did port that game directly over to the 3DS for the European release
So that is why I think porting wouldn't be a very likely solution...
About the series: Inazuma Eleven is a series developed by Level-5 (best known for their Professor Layton and Yo-Kai Watch series) and it has been exclusive to Nintendo consoles, mainly handhelds. The games are Football/Soccer RPG's (Sounds weird, but it works, I don't even like football but I still love the series) it is praised for its unique "battle system" and its many, loveable characters, and for the 3DS installments, also its graphics. Most of the games in the series got released in Europe, but not in America.
You should try the games out, they are really good. I guess you are American so the only game that is directly available is the first one, you can get it in the 3DS eshop for (I think) about $10,- (pretty crazy for a DS game that big) but I would advise you to get a DS flashcard and just play the first 2 games that way because the 3DS version isn't quite the best port
