I live in the Cairngorms so I'm no stranger to winter camping in my Defender at -13. Making a curry and eating it next to the campfire as the snow falls around you is quite an experience. I think I prefer it to summer camping to be honest.
Very good, well edited vid, with well balanced and interesting content. By way of a positive observation, like you I also used to run Land Rovers with open diffs for over 20 years. After trips to Africa and the States, I eventually ended up with front and rear lockers. It was a lightbulb moment. As with all vehicles in this vid, running with open diffs leads to inevitable wheel spinning and consequent loosening up of gravel and mud surfaces leading to accelerated water erosion and damage to lane surfaces. I cannot understand why the vast majority of UK laners seem quite happy to invest ££££s in buying roof tents, 360°awnings, winches etc, but have a mental block when it comes to spending money on what are extremely worthwhile transmission upgrades. If you avoid being aggressive in a fully locked vehicle, then there's far less strain on vehicle components as well. I run a fully lockable rig and find that I rarely need to lock the front diff. Just locking the rear axle is sufficient for crawling up obstacles one would encounter on most UK lanes. Some food for thought perhaps?
We was 6 Defenders from Norway ,and we took that route in mid may. From Harwich , Brighton , up and around in Wales, and I`ll be back🙂 And in a perfect weather , mostly slippers , shorts and t-shirt the hole trip, WOW
14:17 Think it's safe to say that Justin and his Ranger would have been there all day if you hadn't put that stone where you put it. Such a great guy you are!! 🤣🤣
Great vid and well explained on the area too, cheers guys. Working out of Okehampton at the moment but only have my converted transit to play with but I’m sure I’ll bump into you at some stage in the future. Liking that Ford especially with Landy prices at the moment. But then nothing beats a 110 on a cold winters day. Thanks again.
I haven't been camping in Wales for years but your videos are bringing back some great memories of Happy Valley and surroundings. Coco's Wild Camping sounds great, no booking required :) Hope to bump into you sometime as I suspect we both live near each other in South Devon. My Disco gets serviced at Brookwells (well, right next door anyway).
