Great review. I grew up as a die-hard Mana fan, but just couldn't get into LoM when it came out. I think I was expecting a more 'traditional' Mana experience. That said, I came back to this game as an adult and absolutely fell in love. I really have been craving another play through as well...
Thank you. :) Because this was my first Mana game I didn't know what 'traditional' was. I want to play Secret of Mana as I hear that's the 'better' one. And this one was more of a black sheep. But still! I really enjoyed this, and I'm glad you came around. Currently on sale via PSN if you're interested! :)
this game will always be special to me. One of the best games I've played as a kid. the story, character skills and design and most especially the music is superb. Definitely a game that is timeless.
I’ve always loved this game as a kid,the music, the gameplay, and the stories (big and small) were amazing both in drama and comedy. Stoked to get the remaster, however though... DAMN THE TEMPERING
I'm a bit late but this is one of the BEST JRPGS ever! This and Legend of Dragoon are some of my faves. My fave side quest is actually in a newer game. Final Fantasy VII Remake. Where you have to find 3 music disks for Betty 💖 it's too adorable not to love!
Ohhh in terms of side quests one of my favorites is from chrono trigger! The part where you have to retrieve the rainbow shell and bring it back to the kingdom and you get a rainbow sword for chrono prism dress for Marle :) what made it my favorite is that I hadn't done the side quest before when I first played it when I was younger so I was so excited to see there was alot more to Chrono Trigger than I thought!
This video inspired me to buy Legend of Mana on PSN ( I’d been searching for Videos on it because I was curious why it hadn’t got released with the collection of Mana) . I already own collection of Mana on Switch And had only played and beat final fantasy adventure( which I really enjoyed ) . Based on your other 2 more recent Mana reviews I’m not sure I’d enjoy those as much as I am enjoying this game right now(though I will give them a shot at some point) . I love that this game has not much a story and How open ended it is, and I love the artifact system. I also like that this game doesn’t put a lot of pressure on me to play it a lot which makes me want to kind of play it more which is a weird thing to say. I love how short each quest is and I can really complete this game on my own terms. The sprites in this game look fantastic. This game is very underrated and you did a nice job of covering it. Keep up the great work!
Wonderful in depth review! I played Secret of Mana growing up (I'm 33) I'm almost done with Trials Of Mana on ps4 and just got Legend Of Mana in the mail today. This review is making me so pumped to play it, I'll def check out more of your reviews. Keep up the good work
I always loved the Jumi sidequests in this game. But all the chocobo digging sidequests in FF9 were so fun for me! Idk why it was so satisfying to me! Also, great review!
There are three main arks that lead to the final story, each of these are to take you further into the world so you can understand the suffering happening in it. So when you final enter the final battle and listen to the speech you feel compelled to fight back as you disagree. As you are fighting for your friends (like Ike) and the world itself. At least that is how I took it.
I had a great time with that game, my friend and I played them all because that's just what we did. We beat SoM, LoM, and SD3. I highly suggest playing a translated version of Seiken Densetsu 3 (Som2), it is amazing and has a high replay value due to how it is set up.
I think it should be mentioned, especially since the recent release in the series, that this game is poorly translated when it comes to game mechanics. Nothing game breaking but when it comes to world building (where you place the blocks on the map) upgrading your weapons known as "tempering" and the monster corral where you train monsters it's just really unclear what you're supposed to do but for me that was part of the experience. I liked just not really knowing how to do things and experimenting. This is not only my favourite in the series but one of my favourite games of all time and should not let the above mention keep you away from this game. I recommend just playing through the game without any guides or tips etc. and after you beat it find a 100% walkthrough. You will be shocked about how much you missed in this game. Great review btw girly😊
OH MY GOD I'M SO MAD I MISSED THIS SALE!! When I was a wee bab I first played Mana 1 and 3 from...places I found on the high seas, as it were. At this point I was 50/50 when it came to fighting games and JRPGs being my favorite. I then rented this game from Blockbuster and it dominated my summer days and nights. I loved this game. You're right, something about hand drawn sprites and pixel art just feels so timeless. It is my absolute favorite They tend to age so well. I loved the storybook style art and it is literally a storybook. I personally stumbled to the end world almost completely on accident and I was pretty over leveled because I was just doing sidequest stuff the entire time. I just wanted to explore new stories and get more artifacts and repeat forever. I tried to buy the game later on, but it was always on sale for 150+ USD and that was way too rich for my blood. I love the game dearly, but I can't justify that price. So now that I hear that there was a sale for the smallest fraction of the price 3 years ago, I feel sad. I'm gonna go search out the game again and make plans to buy it because I feel it is worthy of being in a collection and enjoyed time and time again. Getting the rainbow shell in Chrono Trigger is one side quest I really love, Chrono Cross feels like 80% side quest and useless characters, but getting that second Einlanzer is one I enjoy, fooling around in the fight arena in Legend of Legaia is fun, crafting items on request in the Atelier series is ostensibly what the whole series is about, but I really love that. There are more, but this is already super long.
Girl, give the soundtrack another listen, the violins, the jumi tracks, the nostalgia song, really, its beyond that of a standard jrpg :) Also, dont forget to buy the remaster!
This game is very nostalgic for me and I absolutely loved your review!!! Your personality shines so hard in this girl, you seem so into it when you talk about what you enjoy about the game I love it :) def subscribing to your channel and can't wait to watch more content.
i was 16-17 ago when i first played legend of mana and i still have my copy, and til this day i have no complaints, amazing sound track, stunning visuals, and epic gameplay. there should had been a sequel
Good video! This game was one of my favorite games when I was growing up. I explored this game thru and thru and I still want to explore more!It would be a blessing if they made legend of Mana 2.And also this game is packed with content that you don't see at first. The equipment upgrading system is insane.Good shite!
This game is so charming! about the travel animations...I do think that those animations, at that time, were supposed to avoid black loading screens. Loading times were a huge issue at that generation (PS1, SAT). Thank you for taking your time reviewing classic games.
Pelvic Gaming : Sorry! I know it's kind of cliche'd and all, but I firmly believe that this sidequest is really memorable for a reason, and that's because it encompasses everything that Majora's Mask stands for. The people of Termina are suffering badly, and worst of all, their days are literally numbered, so anything you can do for them that helps them have a little more happiness in their lives (even if it's not a complete hapiness) before their inevitable demise, it all feels like it was well worth it in the end. Yes, Majora's really depressing like that, and strangely satisfying at the same time. On that note, I am quite fond of the ranch sisters too, and not just because of Cremia's boob hug, but because they are a small family striving to survive in a world that seemingly just wants to see them fail, kind of like the sisters from Lilo & Stitch, with aliens and everything! XD
Awww, this was such a cute explaination... I mean again I don't hate the romantic side quest. It was a solid quest. But when you put it like that, I GUESS I can appreciate it a little more.
Secret of Mana was awesome~! Favorite side-quests... Anju and Kafei... the end game quests in Chrono Trigger.. the Masamune in Chrono Cross... The Fog Ship in Suikoden IV... finding your friends in Final Fantasy VI... so many to choose from.
Yuffie Side Quest in FF7. If I hear 'side quest' that is 1st that come to my mind. So ppl hate it, as take away some stuff from the player but for me it is just perfect example how to make addictional content, force player out of his comfort zone, make him look on things from different perspective, both in narration and gameplay.
Daaamn that art looks so good. Like Lucas Arts good. I think my favorite sidequest would have to be the one from Chrono Trigger where Robo makes friends with a lady and plants trees for 400 years.
In the case you liked this, then I strongly recommend you try out Seiken Densetsu 3. It's quite possibly the most sought-after Super Famicom game that was never released in the US.
Oh my, you are mostly engaged with thrilling aggressive musics like the boss battle?... Polpota Harbour has the most beautiful musics i've ever heard in video games!!
Actually the OST was hugely popular and had live concerts. Most people put the OST as the best thing about the game. It was also my first and prefer it over Secret
Legend of Mana is one of my favorites of the Mana series because of the story collections and the characters. My favorite Main Story would have to be the Jumi Race Story. It was so heartfelt and tragic to me and when I finally got to the Jumi City and heard the town theme, i was filled with such somber sorrow, like i was watching to last of the Jumi disappear into oblivion and go extinct. One of my favorite characters in this game is Niccolo! He's such an amusing character with his love of money, his character arc isn't as developed as the others but I love him for doing his own thing. Now as much as I LOVE this game, I still have trouble interpreting the ending and it still confuses me to this day. This ending was just as open ended and mind boggling as the ending to Big O's anime ending. I won't spoil it but I still love the game regardless and recommend it anyone who loves non-linear games and JRPGs
Fantastic review, it is really fitting for you to have a Xenoblade X Chronicles poster, as both these games are all about the world building and side stories and not just one overarching plot!
Hi i just found your channel cause i was looking up suikoden 1/2 on youtube. Great job reviewing, I am subscribed now! Plan on liking and checking out alot of your reviews. Thanks for your hard work!
Stumbled upon your channel today, have to say I'm digging it! Love the edgy and up beat personality! Great review on a classic game. Look forward to checking out some of your other content! Love the artwork and soundtrack of this game!
The art design of this game is insane. I really sad that no developer made this kind of art design anymore. I really love it. I think i will play it anymore since i forgot about this gem. I played it 10+ years ago, i think.
I always loved LoM because I didn't think of the side quests as... side quests. Everything ties together pretty well. They add layers, and context to just about every theme in the game. I guess if you do a blind playthrough, it might feel like a mess because missions are scattered, and you aren't completing them in the right order. So the focus seems to be introducing new areas, and characters that have little purpose with regard to the main story. I'm not sure if you did a 100% run, but finishing each mission really makes the difference.
Great video! I'm really fond of this series and I'm upset about the lack of games, and that I don't believe it became all of what I could've been. Byyy the way, it's been years, but I distinctly remember using the shadows below myself, bosses and enemies as a gauge of distance during combat ^^.
Sadly I've only played one Mana game, but if the others are as fun as this one then I'm all about playing them! I'll try to keep that in mind for next time. Cause I suck at gauging distance. Have that problem with all beat 'em ups.
Ohhhhh, miss, lemme tell yew wut... Those seriously are by far my favorite game series ever. I do feel some type of way about these games. Please, play secret of mana, it is an amazing game. There is even a "secret of mana 2" which you can download and is supplied via fan translation which has been said to be really good, but I'unno. The first ever official release for myself here in USA was Final Fantasy Adventures on the classic gameboy, but I prefer the GBA remake called Sword of Mana; even when compared to the more recent mobile phone remake titled Adventures of Mana. But... Something happened to the series, I'd say right after legend of mana where... the games just didn't knock it out of the park like SoM did. My opinion SoM is by far my favorite. SoM2 would take the cake, it's a better game mechanically and even in depth and story, but SoM has too strong of a nostalgic hold on me. Best music in a series ever as well. Please, try them out. They're amazing games, you won't be disappointed.
Haha, if I ever have the time, I shall. But for now it's Nier Automata, Persona 5, Yooka-Laylee, Bravely Second, DK Tropical Freeze. Somewhat in that order...
It's just a charming little collection of fun events:D My fav is the one involving the ghost at polpota:D And the ghost on the ship, cause I always got lost^_^
Great!! If you enjoy the colorfull art style and character design I would like to recomend too, Magical Vacation (GBA) Magical Starsign (NDS) and Saga Frontier 2 (PSX) The first two are from the same artist, and the characters in both games are very charming with compeling and funny dialogues all the way trough! It's so much fun!!
I picked this up when it first came out. came with the soundtrack. this is the only Mana game I played all the way through and its definitely in my top 5 of all time. really a head of its time. thinking about a revisit.
To me LoM is the best Seiken Densetsu game ever made, it's got exquisite style and sublime substance, what more could I ask for? It was perhaps too creative for its time, but that's what made it a timeless masterpiece. I'm well aware that LoM is a love it or hate it game, but I'm still glad to see fans here :-) P.S. Fellow lady gamer here, think you can set up a Discord Channel to discuss games?
I've played SD3 but I wasn't driven enough to beat it, IMO it was too restrictive when it came to creating character builds (I actually like Sword of Mana better in that case).
Kompakt Zouk It was more about group builds than individual builds, but I see what you are saying, once you class change that kinda establishes how you will be playing with that character.
What ruined the experience for me was how the screen froze in place when an enemy was on screen, where the older Mana games let you freely explore. Also in one playthrough I managed to set up my map in a way where I soft locked the game, I couldn't place a story critical map piece next to any of the available ones. Couldn't progress! Also the dub bear quest was frustrating for little kid me. But I loved pretty much everything else about it.
favorite quest in any game was in this game Legend of Mana where you had to learn the teddy bears language in order to complete the quest it was the best thing ever
How could you say there was nothing special about the music? Most of the tracks paint a picture in their own, completely independent of the visuals. The soundtrack was incredible!
Favorite side quests for me are: fairy village from breath of fire 3 lol, the assassins guild from Skyrim, anything that gets me closer to choccobos in final fantasy, and fishing from animal crossing 😂😂😂😂
Legend of Mana is my favorite game of all time! The Jumi Knight story is definitely my fave! After playing this I was really interested in trying out the other mana games. It was so disappointing to find out how different they all are from this one. The Black Sheep is the BEST SHEEP.
I am very excited for the collection of Mana to come out in August. I mean it is out now but I want the physical Edition. While none of them play like this I'm still excited! Thank you for watching. :-)
Maiamai hunting in Legend of Zelda LBW The Companions in Skyrim Helping that Mei Suen get revenge on her pimp in Deus Ex Human Revolution Tracking down all the stolen jellybeans in West of Loathing (Don't know if this counts but...) Saving all the Little Sisters I could in Bioshock 1
I'm doing some research and getting super hype for the remaster release on 24/06/21 (the good thing about the Square enix E3 2021 presentation is that it reminded me of the remaster existence haha!) Do you think you'd replay this?
Great review although there are some parts I do not agree with: 1. The musics are probably the best I ever heard from game. Very nostalgic and I have butterfly in my stomach every time I hear Hometown Domina. 2. The main story is not a negative point. I feel like this is the game in which you want to spend hours and hours just to enjoy the art, the music, harvest fruits, have pets, temper your weapon. I actually did not want to complete the main story because then it will end.
I will say now I don't agree with my music point. I don't know what I was on when I made this review LOL. But the main story we have to agree to disagree I suppose. Thanks for watching! :-)
A friend and myself started with the "Collection of Mana" about half a year ago and completed the first 2 titles (Secret and Trials) and liked them quite a lot, even if there were a few frustrating and / or cryptic parts. Now we started this game and honestly we aren't into it at all. The combat feels weird. There don't seem to be any healing items or a spell menu which we've gotten so used to. The whole game feels so random and badly explained
I would love to hear your thoughts on the first few games in the series. There quality is very devisive among the fanbase and generally among people who enjoyed jrpg's so hopefully you'll cover that. It would mean a lot because the recently released mana collection is pretty damn expensive for just 3 games.
I love your reviews. They don't feel like commercial. It's like you're a friend pointing out the best and worst things about a game you played.
Aaron Lents This comment means a lot to me. Thank you. I try not to seem so...stale. Thank you again!
A.L Joseph i agree
This is my beloved game from childhood, and since im almost 33 I'm still coming back to game OST
I also come back for a few tracks! The music is unforgettable!
Great review. I grew up as a die-hard Mana fan, but just couldn't get into LoM when it came out. I think I was expecting a more 'traditional' Mana experience. That said, I came back to this game as an adult and absolutely fell in love. I really have been craving another play through as well...

this game will always be special to me. One of the best games I've played as a kid. the story, character skills and design and most especially the music is superb. Definitely a game that is timeless.
The graphics in this game really are something else.

LEGEND OF MANA REMASTERED announced
I'm a bit late but this is one of the BEST JRPGS ever! This and Legend of Dragoon are some of my faves.
My fave side quest is actually in a newer game. Final Fantasy VII Remake. Where you have to find 3 music disks for Betty 💖 it's too adorable not to love!
I always considered Legend of Mana to be a game made up of dozens of distinct sidequests. Favorite Mana game, too.

I love the fact they chose to sing the opening song in swedish. Being from Sweden myself, my jaw dropped when i heard it. Really unexpected
I had a great time with that game, my friend and I played them all because that's just what we did. We beat SoM, LoM, and SD3. I highly suggest playing a translated version of Seiken Densetsu 3 (Som2), it is amazing and has a high replay value due to how it is set up.
I remember thinking this game was so cool for having a rabbit protagonist. I'd never seen that before. Great review 👏
A remaster of Legend of Mana is coming!
I think it should be mentioned, especially since the recent release in the series, that this game is poorly translated when it comes to game mechanics. Thank you for taking your time reviewing classic games.
It is sooooooo charming!
my childhood!! my favorite characters were Esmeralda, bud and lisa and dark pearl
Right off the top of my head... The quest to reunite Anju and Kafei in Majora's Mask.
I feel like I'm the only one who didn't go crazy about that quest. Don't get me wrong. IT'S GREAT. There were just other things I enjoyed more.

I also prefer Legends music too!! :)
Sorry if you've explained this elsewhere and I haven't seen it, but what's the story behind the name "Pelvic Gaming"?
Im so glad you have a review on this game!!!!!
Alright, you got me. You started the review with Danse Macabre and followed it up with a great review. Nice!
All part of the plan~ Eh heh, thank you for watching.

This game was glorious. So happy I made time to play!
Best Mana series ever
The art design of this game is insane. I really sad that no developer made this kind of art design anymore. I really love it. I think i will play it anymore since i forgot about this gem. I played it 10+ years ago, i think.
Awesome game, Beautiful host; Subbed!!! Also favorite side-quest, Cloud Strife cross dressing to save Tifa in Final Fantasy 7 XD

Somewhat in that order...
the bravely default series are awesome too! Im almost done with the first and I cant wait for the second.
glhf
my favorite side quest is levelingthe chokabos (sorry can't spell) in FF VII!! the races are fun!
It's just a charming little collection of fun events:D
My fav is the one involving the ghost at polpota:D And the ghost on the ship, cause I always got lost^_^
I agree! I really enjoyed all the little adventures~!
Great Job Sis!!!! Enjoyed your enthusiasm. I was encouraged to try this out again. Keep hurting the game with your insightful reviews.
Thank you!! I hope you enjoy!
Delightful review as always, Pelvic.
Barely 2 minutes in to the first video I've seen of you, and I've already hit the subscribe button.
Why thank you very much! :)
I picked this up when it first came out. came with the soundtrack. this is the only Mana game I played all the way through and its definitely in my top 5 of all time. really a head of its time. thinking about a revisit.
100% Worth it! I want to play more Mana games to see what I'm missing out on!
Always happy to see some love for LOM, an unjustly panned game imho. The soundtrack is one of the best.
Oh this is my favorite Mana hands down!
Watching your review to get hyped for the remaster!
To me LoM is the best Seiken Densetsu game ever made, it's got exquisite style and sublime substance, what more could I ask for? It was perhaps too creative for its time, but that's what made it a timeless masterpiece. I'm well aware that LoM is a love it or hate it game, but I'm still glad to see fans here :-)
P.S. Fellow lady gamer here, think you can set up a Discord Channel to discuss games?
Hehe never used Diacord before...So I was thinkin about it~
Have you ever played SD3?
I've played SD3 but I wasn't driven enough to beat it, IMO it was too restrictive when it came to creating character builds (I actually like Sword of Mana better in that case).
Kompakt Zouk It was more about group builds than individual builds, but I see what you are saying, once you class change that kinda establishes how you will be playing with that character.
Good review. I'm late to the party clearly but I'm a fan of trials of mana so it's good to see a review for a game in the series.
I love how you embrace your natural hair ❤❤❤
What ruined the experience for me was how the screen froze in place when an enemy was on screen, where the older Mana games let you freely explore.
Also in one playthrough I managed to set up my map in a way where I soft locked the game, I couldn't place a story critical map piece next to any of the available ones. Couldn't progress!
Also the dub bear quest was frustrating for little kid me.
But I loved pretty much everything else about it.
My favorite side quests are the companion focused stories of Mass Effect 2. It could be pretty spoiler-ish to describe them.
The art style is beautiful
The game that inspired my favorite game of all time (not officially but I'd like to think: "obviously!") - Dark Cloud!!!
Ahhh... my childhood......
favorite quest in any game was in this game Legend of Mana where you had to learn the teddy bears language in order to complete the quest it was the best thing ever
Oscarmayer I like the concept..hated the quest. >.
This is literally one of the greatest games of all time. There is nothing I can even think of that comes close.
LEGEND OF MANA REMASTER CONFIRMED!!!!!
Yup, gonna be buying this right now, Thanks Lady P!
LET ME KNOW HOW YOU LIKE IT!!! :D
I love your reviews! Keep at it!!!
Juan Contreras Thank you!!
Maiamai hunting in Legend of Zelda LBW
The Companions in Skyrim
Helping that Mei Suen get revenge on her pimp in Deus Ex Human Revolution
Tracking down all the stolen jellybeans in West of Loathing
(Don't know if this counts but...) Saving all the Little Sisters I could in Bioshock 1
gato theme song was always my favorite, u got everithing rigth. saludos de la patagonia :3
I'm doing some research and getting super hype for the remaster release on 24/06/21 (the good thing about the Square enix E3 2021 presentation is that it reminded me of the remaster existence haha!) Do you think you'd replay this?
I haven't played a mana game before. I really hope to rectify that soon
The mana Collection came out for the switch in the physical copies coming out in August I believe.
That stupid rabbit made me crazy, but i still loved this game
d Best of Mana series
Great review although there are some parts I do not agree with:
Hours of fun . 3 player mode with the multitap !
Your the most sincere reviewer I've seen im a new subscriber for life
Oh my gosh! Thank you! ♡♡♡
As a continuation of my comment on your Suikoden II review...
I love you
xD
Tree Frog Characters and Concepts ;)
That game was best ever game ive played when i was a child
Loooove this game, only disagree about the music, i think it's one of the best OSTs from PS1
Similar gameplay to Saga Frontier which has SEVEN different main characters for SEVEN different playthroughs.
Is that The Devils Trill in the opening? I like it :)
great review!
i NEEDED a new review about this great gamee
Welcome...:)
You got a new subscriber from Brazil!
Dawn of Mana took over the "Black Sheep" title and ran with it...
Nice review pelvic! Thanks for sharing this. However I was wondering if this could be played on a ps4 or other consoles besides ps1?
Ps3! Via psn! And probably Steam I imagine...
Pelvic Gaming thanks Pelvic :)
I would love to hear your thoughts on the first few games in the series. There quality is very devisive among the fanbase and generally among people who enjoyed jrpg's so hopefully you'll cover that. It would mean a lot because the recently released mana collection is pretty damn expensive for just 3 games.
I wanna see game footage of you playing
