Houdini(Sidefx) team's efforts for making it more and more artist friendly are evidently visible in this presentation. Being able to pack so much and find a balance in technical and artistic aspects is tremendous work.

Probably they should say, "artist friendly because Math is Art".
Side Fx continuos to support the idea this software is "artist friendly", well just to avoid confusion to new users, to use this software you need to be a coder, there's far more mathematics then art, if you just need to use orrible presets you can use it as "artist intended" but be honest guys if you want (and in work place you must) to uncover the true Houdini potential you need programming skills.

What i like in Blender and Houdini, you don't need to switch, they work both together. You can easy use Blender for poly and sculpting and then throw eveything at houdini, then get back for rendering. Blender is free anyway, so not much to lose.

@@janvollgod7221 why render in CyclesX, a biased render engine, when XPU is coming to Houdini, and you can model the exact same way in Houdini as you can in Blender, plus its 100% non destructive, while blender is almost entirerly destructive, make no sense to me, I only use Blender for 2D animation now, not 3D, not anymore at least!

@@gcharb2d My biggest problem in Blender is the ..lets name it, the pathetic memory managment and caching mechanism. But as far i know, the development recognized the problem and adresses it in 3.0. Blender will get similar instancing like clarisse, what could be the game changer or many projects. In my opinion blender doesn't run much as concurrency to Houdini. Blender is swiss army knife, and Houdini is more specialist, like zbrush. What i am missing in Houdini is the GPU support. This would make many things easier.

@@gcharb2d A biased rendering engine can sometimes give you results that are closer to your creative intent while being faster. Pick the one that fits the workflow and creative intent the best, there is no need to go away from biased renderers. I personally use multiple different renderers in my commercial work.
Also, Cycles is categorized as unbiased, with some somewhat "biased" features to turn on if needed.

Blender also regularly receives amazing new tools, and is now taken seriously as a complete package. Autodesk users (including myself as a 3ds Max user for archviz) watch on from our bug-ridden trenches, wishing we could get that level of dedication and professionalism from our software devs. That said, it's pretty common knowledge that SideFX is absolutely targeting Maya users with Houdini, hence all the work on character rigging and animation. So yeah, Maya users actually will be a bit jealous, hence the down votes (which was a joke in the first place, so chill).

@@darko.v it did, blender being average at sculting and really bad at texturing, I went with 3D Coat for those, at first I was working with Houdini pretty much the same way I did in blender, but when I really got my head around the way Houdini works I completely embraced proceduralism, took a bit to really get the hang of it, but man, this software is powerful, I was tired of blenders' limitations, Houdini might not be free, but since I use it I am free of limitations!

@@ikbo Blender just can't handle large datasets, it cant handle large scenes, its only good for small projects with limited FX, it is driven by hype, because hype is what drives donations, fanboys are under the impression that because its free, its the best 3D software on the planet, which its not, I used it for about 6 years before I switched to Houdini, so I know, no more hitting a brick wall for me!

I know it's fun making software comparisons like that but I hope you realize that 99% of the time it's just personal preference. Unless you are building a feature film vfx pipeline it really doesn't matter.
