Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge (Game Boy Color) - NintendoComplete

  • A playthrough of Konami's colorized remake of the 1991 action-platform game, Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge. It was released as part of the Konami GB Collection Vol. 4 compilation cart for the Game Boy Color in 2000.
With its upcoming rerelease in Konami's Castlevania Anniversary Collection, I thought that it would be cool to show off this little-known updated version of the second Castlevania Game Boy game. Just as with the color version of Castlevania: The Adventure, this one never came out in America, so the video was recorded from the European release.
Belmont's Revenge was a good improvement over Castlevania: The Adventure, with some cool additions like a Mega Man-style stage select and the use of sub-weapons, the graphics look much better this time, and the soundtrack is as kick ass as you probably hoped it would it would be. It retains the slow pace of the first game, but the challenge - though still at times maddening - feels much more even this time around, and there's a lot more content here compared to the original game.
The color job on Belmont's Revenge looks great, and like most of the other games in Konami's GB Collection series, the upgrade from monochrome makes for a dramatic improvement in both its looks and its playability.
Like Castlevania: The Adventure, I highly doubt that the color version of Belmont's Revenge will be used for the Anniversary Collection, but you're getting a quality game either way.
You can find my playthrough of the color version of Castlevania: The Adventure here if you're interested: / udvpcrpjb
And the original Game Boy version of Belmont's Revenge here:
    • Castlevania II: Belmon...
*Recorded with Retroarch shaders to mimic the look of the original hardware.

No cheats were used during the recording of this video.

What a masterpiece for its era, formidable music, exceptional level design and boss battles and a huge step-up in control/gameplay from its predecessor; if only there were more levels. I remember, as a kid, whipping all bricks trying to find secrets... the memories...
FYI the main differences from the original game on Game Boy, are the new subweapon (cross instead of axe), and some text corrections/alterations (like Soleil instead of Soleiyu). Keep up the good work!

Christopher is the first Belmont in the main timeline to have not only defeated Dracula twice, but also to have done it alone. And according his official artwork, he would be the oldest to have defeated him.
Just for that, he should be considered the most respected and the bravest of Belmonts, instead of being ignored or forgotten.

That last chapter is annoying. The first four castles are really good with great music and satisfying platforming and then it just gets unbearably difficult for no reason

The colour doesn't look great imo. Very weird choices and no detail, they did it as simply as they could get away with its not a true DX upgrade like Link's Awakening

Why didn't they keep the name as the Nintendo console game, Castlevania 2:Simon's quest?
