- A playthrough of Sunsoft's 1994 license-based platformer for the Super Nintendo, Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage.
Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage is a hop-and-bop platformer featuring everybody's favorite wascally wabbit as he undertakes a quest to find (and end) the animator who has turned his life into an never-ending string of life-threatening situations. Bugs' adventure spans nine stages, each based on a Looney Tunes episode, that pit him against a line-up of classic WB cartoon figures, including the likes of Yosemite Sam, Marvin the Martian, Taz, and Elmer Fudd.
The concept faithfully sticks to the slapstick humor of the shows that the scenarios were plucked from, as do the game's striking graphics, which manage to perfectly capture the essence of these animated pop culture icons. The quality of the spritework, animation, and background illustrations is beyond reproach.
The Sunsoft of the 16-bit era clearly understood that these were key elements to nail down when creating games based on popular media properties. There was one guiding design principle, however, that they seemingly abandoned as they pivoted away from 8-bit gaming, and it was one that they failed to instill in the companies to which they were outsourcing development duties. That is, they had forgotten that in video games, gameplay is king.
Generally speaking, Viacom's Rabbit Rampage is a better game than Sunsoft's previous licensed platformer, Road Runner's Death Valley Rally ( • Road Runner's Death Va... ), which was developed by ICOM and released in 1992. The controls are more responsive, the level design is less punishing, and there's better variety in the challenges it presents.
But the game ultimately falls prey to the same core flaw that buried Road Runner: the presentation comes at too great a cost to the gameplay. The view is zoomed in too close, blind jumps abound, Bugs falls through the edges of badly defined platforms and is constantly pegged by projectiles thrown by off-screen enemies, and his attacks regularly phase through enemies without registering contact.
The game's slow pace mitigates the impact of these issues to some extent - it's not nearly as infuriating to play as Death Valley Rally was - but Rabbit Rampage is yet another lesson in what happens when style takes priority over substance. It looks phenomenal, but with gameplay like this, you're better off just watching the show.

NintendoComplete (www.nintendocom...) punches you in the face with in-depth reviews, screenshot archives, and music from classic 8-bit NES games!
Bugs Bunny Rabbit Rampage is better than Death Valley Rally, but it was still a sad reminder that the Sunsoft we had come to know and love died with the NES.
Sunsoft should've stuck with developing their entire 16-bit library in-house. After all, it worked with Lemmings and Super Fantasy Zone.
You should do a longplay for Speedy Gonzales: Los Gatos Bandidos. That is a great Snes Sunsoft plattformer.
Just what the hell happened with them!
Not to be the "um ackshually" guy but SUNSOFT made some really good games in the 16/32 bit era. Super Fantasy zone on Mega Drive, the Hebereke spinoffs on SFC and Arcade the fighting games Galaxy Fight and Waku Waku 7.
@@king-of-a-thing And people shit on T.R.A.G. all the time, but I enjoyed it in the PS1 era. Agreed with Dorian above though; they really needed to keep their output -THEIR OUTPUT-.
Boy our generation was really well rounded when it came to pop culture huh
Rabbit season, duck season, rabbit season, duck season, rabbit season, duck season! Elmer season.
If nothing else, they made some big characters with nice animations and level graphics that capture the look and feel of the cartoons appropriately, and they did some nice row/line scrolling for added parallax on the far backgrounds too. I'll give them credit for that.
The music isn't too bad, either. It sounds like it could be ripped right from a Looney Tunes cartoon.
@@Dorian_Scott That as well.
@@Dorian_Scott My favorite track is Dancing With The Devil.
As mediocre as this game is, the sprite work looks amazing. Bugs and company are just as lively *_here_* as they are in the cartoons. They even managed to fit in the slapstick humor.
The game aint mediocre >:(
QUIT STEAMING UP MY GLASSES!
Do kids today even know who bugs bunny is?
"What's up, Doc 🥕🐰🐇?"
😺👍🕹️
Omg I haven't played this in years thanks for uploading this
If only this game were added to SNES NSO along with other Looney Tunes like Speedy Gonzales and Road Runner.
Pretty sad this game fell into the same trap a number of platformers on the 16 bit consoles and the Game Boy did back then. Zoom in the view, make the sprites large to show off the detail which looks great in screenshots for magazines. But in doing so it makes the levels feel like a confusing maze, Plus the enemies seem to constantly pop out in front of you since you can't see crap which is far more frustrating than fun.
My favorite games snes
Adoro esse jogo. Ficou bem fiel ao desenho do Pernalonga. Se puder faz vídeo tb de EARTHWORM JIM e EARTHWORM JIM 2 do SNES. Obrigado pelo vídeo.
I rented this...almost beat it
🤫 be very very quiet, I'm hunting wabbits, hahaha.
Arguably the best looking 16 Bit Looney Tunes game. Unfortunately, RR is very cheap. They could have at least had a password save system.
Not bad, i though the final "boss" stage had some great idea, i had though daffy was behind the whole thing. Kind of odd that it ended with a random kick. I had though you needed to maybe break all the paint, then SQUIRT the big DAFFY head in the background to end it. STill not to shabby.
You're sort of correct. The Daffy clones ARE your target, but they'll respawn for as long as a single paint can or tube remains intact. Once they're all broken, then you can finish off the remaining Daffys and the battle is complete.
Me acuerdo que de nene nunca pude matar al segundo jefe, le pisaba la cabeza y no moría mas...
Road runner: beep beep
Cheers!
Thank you very much!
You're welcome!
cuanto tiempo a pasado
Remember renting and being severely disappointed with this one. It looks alright but it sounds awful and plays like crap. Seriously Sunsoft, what the hell?
Yes, it's absurd. For example, basic enemies have like half a dozen hit points? What also doesn't help is the hit box detection is weak.
Awesomeness looney tunes game please do more thanks 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
I'm wile e coyote genius
It's cool if you have a lot to say about a game, but could you please keep the comments in a single thread? That way they won't clutter up the entire comment section.
That Wile E Coyote fight takes forever.
