The boss design in this game is amazing, specially considering this game is from 1989. Dracula's second and third forms make the Cookie Monster from the first game look like a draft in a kid's notebook.
Dracula 3rd form and Death are the only bosses I can't beat without a subweapon. Dracula 3rd form, I can only beat with the axe. But 2nd form is the coolest and most creepy. Too bad they didn't bring it back for any of the sequels.

Deadeye Joe Both in this case. Castlevania 3 went all out on the FDS’s extra sound channels that were missing from the NES. The hardware we had simply couldn’t handle it. Getting the Japanese originals patches into the recent collection was a real treat.
I needed Alucard to even beat Drac’s third form back in the day. One of his upgraded fireball attacks launched up at an angle allowing me to bypass the roller coaster platforms.
This is the Japanese version. Also note you can sort of see nips on the medusa boss when she fires her bow. Oh, and Sipha's actually a girl in this one.

Lots of comments about alucard looking different, but here are some other differences I noticed from the US version I played as a kid. Level 6 after the flying dragon runs away there's that part where the water level is rising. I always encounter a steady stream of bats there along with the fish dudes. Also, there's usually candles on that part too. And in the mummy fight I noticed his mummy wrappings are shooting straight where on my version they fly in an up and down pattern which makes them harder to dodge. This guy's got some incredible skill though.

Rumon Gray This is a different or alternate version because as you advance enemies become harder and will not yield to a whip that’s similar to the one used in castlevania 2 simon’s quest when in CV3 the whip is shorter. The bosses weren’t even attacking in some cases in these clips.
@@runitback5066 No no, I'm specifically talking about having to avoid getting the whip powerups themselves as he had to play through the levels to get to those bosses. Having to avoid hitting candles with hearts (which would become the first whip upgrade), or avoid getting them from random enemy drops. Must've been a difficult enough journey without even having to worry about that.

Rumon Gray it's very likely he just played the levels normally, died to the boss, and then worked his way back from the checkpoint, completely avoiding candles the second time around doing it like this is far easier than avoiding everything from the start of the level he also starts each boss battle with only five hearts (the default after taking a death), backing this up

Think back....heck even play the Castlevania Collections on both US and Japanese versions, when running from the rising water in "Atlantis" or the second half of the boss fight with the...I guess you could call it the Uroboros, but flying dragon is fine. There were obvious mermen everywhere, but they didn't even drop a whip upgrade, it's been awhile for me but weren't some bats missing too? The lack of candles, except at the end and who here besides the player in video has dodged Death's big ol' nog when it came flying in and nowhere near the top of the platforms to jump over. Now I'm not trying to take anything away from the tuber, it is very impressive and I myself have the itch to try this: no power up, no dying, and no Sub Weapon schtick a try. But I think I'll probably end up giving in and just beating the game normally and keeping my sanity. I grew up with these games I probably could've, (in my lifetime) set some records like not dying the entire playthrough twice.....but I can't replicate nor even come close to those accolades to date. But all in all a good video I'll probably watch again.

This is the original version from Japan. The Japanese cartridges on the Famicom didn't have lockout circuitry, so Konami made their own cartridges. There are slight differences between the VRC6 and the MMC5 cartridges that make some programming and graphics different (why? I don't know).

Also, I never understood why Death worked with Dracula. I mean, he's the embodiment of Death, he's supposed to rip everybody's soul and lead them to the afterlife, or make the balance between life and death. Why would he care about a stupid battle between an old vampire and a family of vampire hunter specifically? Perhaps I read too much Discworld and Sandman.
He's serving the one who has Crimson Stone, which Drac got it when he was Mathias. When Drac dies and rebirth as Soma (AoS spoilers btw but I have to say it) he doesn't have Crimson Stone anymore so Death attacks him.
AFAIK, Death as he exists in Castlevania is less a neutral psychopomp/force of nature and more of a rogue shinigami, at least in the Japanese side of things. Precious little info on that front though. I think some Soma Cruz novels go into it a bit?

Clearly hacked/modified. Alucard's fireballs are slowed down,his hair isent short and black..among the rest of his Sprite having altered coloration and Dracula's lasers were longer by about 4/5x making dodging them harder. Digging the soundtrack though.
It's a hack of the japanese version of cv3. The game is considerably easier, the us bumped up the speed of projectiles and changed the level design to be harder. Alucard's sprite (and the english translation) are the only things that changed in this hack.

Also, I never understood why Death worked with Dracula. I mean, he's the embodiment of Death, he's supposed to rip everybody's soul and lead them to the afterlife, or make the balance between life and death. Why would he care about a stupid battle between an old vampire and a family of vampire hunter specifically?

He's serving the one who has Crimson Stone, which Drac got it when he was Mathias. When Drac dies and rebirth as Soma (AoS spoilers btw but I have to say it) he doesn't have Crimson Stone anymore so Death attacks him.
AFAIK, Death as he exists in Castlevania is less a neutral psychopomp/force of nature and more of a rogue shinigami, at least in the Japanese side of things.
Precious little info on that front though. I think some Soma Cruz novels go into it a bit?

Clearly hacked/modified. Alucard's fireballs are slowed down,his hair isent short and black..among the rest of his Sprite having altered coloration and Dracula's lasers were longer by about 4/5x making dodging them harder. Digging the soundtrack though.
It's a hack of the japanese version of cv3. The game is considerably easier, the us bumped up the speed of projectiles and changed the level design to be harder. Alucard's sprite (and the english translation) are the only things that changed in this hack.
