      Hey man, great vid! I noticed the line of getting stuck in your drive. Glad you were able to get it out. I purchased a leash but haven’t installed it yet because I’m trying to figure out how to keep it out of way while fishing. Looking forward to more vids. 🤙🏼

    Get rid of that floating livewell mate. Sharpies can feel the panic in your baitfish. Get an on board hobie livewell. All that blood will get them coming to you. All it takes is a nudge from the side or behind and you will be shark food. Good luck mate. Inspiring videos

    Awesome Video! Thank you for sharing. looking forward to getting out this coming weekend. Most of my fishing is inshore, but it is definitely the way to get away from the daily routine. Hope to see more of your videos. Thank you again!

      I would leash it. I just use a lanyard made out of paracord. I lost a drive flipping in the puget sound a few years back.

    Aloha! What size mainline and leader line are you using? How long is the leader line? Just starting out kayak fishing and I love your videos.

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      80lb braid to 150' of 65lb braid and then a fluorocarbon leader. Leader length depends but I prefer a longer leader at least 10+ feet ( I generally start with 20'). I tie an FG knot from my braid to my 40lb leader.

    • @jusjokesbruh
      @jusjokesbruh 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Flying Fish TV Thanks! And are you using a loop knot from the leader to the hook? Rapala knot?

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use a loop knot to the hook, in theory it gives the bait a little more freedom of movement. When using wire I make my haywire twist have a loop to allow the same kind of movement.

  • @1Deejay7

    Q: are you supposed to use barbless hooks in the ocean? Got a kayak and just waiting for some friends to go out for the first time

    • @brianwalsh7931
      @brianwalsh7931 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      In Hawaii, barbed hooks are legal everywhere in the ocean. No fishing license required either. Only in the freshwater lakes, you need license and have other rules. If you’re not fishing in Hawaii, I don’t know what kind of laws you have. Good luck. Aloha 🤙🏼

    do you ever catch and release? just wondering as no one can eat all that fish lol great videos looks like great fun...

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I release nearly all of the non pelagic fish. With the few fish I keep on each trip around 80% is given away to friends. I would like to release more yellowfin tuna, the two that I caught yesterday swallowed the hook. The next one that I catch that is hooked in the mouth will get tossed back.

    • @magwamagwa45110
      @magwamagwa45110 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FlyingFish_TV awesome, you might try with the live bait a bigger hook and make it a circle hook as long as you let the fish run instead of setting the hook and it catching in the stomach or throat it will slide out to the corner of the mouth and you will have much more chances of release....but then there is nothing so good as fresh yellow fin tuna .....but your odds will be much better for release with a circle hook on live bait .. have fun and keep your feet in the yak when bleeding those fish out lol :)

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Of those two from yesterday the second was on a circle hook and it was still gut hooked. I mostly try target fish to keep and stop fishing when I have caught enough. That usually mean 2-3 fish

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Navy coming out of Pearl Harbor. I have a paddle in my front hatch for when my pedal drive breaks. It’s usually 10-15 minutes later that I put the fish in the bag, but I see your point.

    • @FlyingFish_TV

      Hey Andrew. I made it with stuff from home depot. Buy a 2' x 4" length of black ABS pipe (Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene), a cap for the end, and finally something for the front. I got a green drain attachment with a lot of room for water to flow through. You'll need to drill holes in the end cap to let water out, but that should be it. I used 550 cord and some bungee to attach it to my kayak.

      This one is a PENN fierce 6000 live liner. Since filming this, I replaced it with a spinfisher 5. The fierce isn’t sealed and not very suited for off shore fishing. I definitely got my money out of it, but it is nice to have a better reel.

      Thanks Robert! I fish about 1-2 times per week, but it largely depends on the weather. I keep most of the pelagic that I catch with the exception of the kawa kawa (bonita). I give away a lot of fish, wife is tired of eating fish all the time lol.

    I would think that with all your encounters with sharks that you would at the very least think twie about hanging your feet in the water. Maybe when one of them gets bitten off you learn.

    • @FlyingFish_TV
      @FlyingFish_TV  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think about it a lot. What you don’t see is the 10 minutes that I wait after the fish blood dissipates and I drift a couple hundred feet before putting the fish in the bag. It is hard to get everything in the video without making it boring.
