Thanks for stopping by and watching! At that time the other rod was only bending because the tuna had tangled in the rig as it dangled under the kayak. It was making the fish swim all weird so I had to cut it.

It's DIY if you search flying fish TV bait tube he has a full video how to build. I don't think it can be dragged very quick without killing the bait maybe 6 or 7 knots.
Aloha, can I ask a fairly related question? How much ice do you bring with you? I'm looking at your bag on the Hobie website, but it doesn't seem like it would hold a whole lot. Apprecaite any thoughts you might have.
I have a really long leader. 150 feet. I just let line out til my leader is all out and let a bit more if I'm marking fish deeper. Gotta remember too the line is gonna scope out at an angle so even with 200 feet line out the bait is probably only like 100 feet down

If you're not down (stranger from the internet), I get it. . . But advice on the safest places/side to go out? I went out Haliewa so far but didn't want to risk it despite not many waves.
Hey man I'm on the Big Island and don't know Oahu fishing ground at all! The FB group Hawaii Kayak Fishing has tons of guys that fish out there definitely worth checking it out 🤙 P.S. Good that you're thinking about safety because things can go sideways so fast out there!

I usually bring 15 - 20 lbs ice. It's enough to keep fish cool til I get back to my truck or home and transfer to a big cooler
Once you toss the live bait how long do you keep the bail open? Do you cruise for little while to get the line out, to get it to the right depth?
