There's so many things I want to touch on here.... 1. Ice hockey is very popular in countries outside of the US/Canada. You already mentioned Russia but other notable countries are Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Germany, Czech Republic, Belarus, Austria, France, Norway, Ukraine, Slovakia and more. 2. The equivalent of Messi atm would be Connor McDavid; a 22 year old insanely fast generational player for the Edmonton Oilers. Other top end players include: Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovetchkin, Steven Stamkos, Nikita Kucherov, Mark Scheifele, Mikko Rantanen, Nathan Mackinnon, Patrik Kane, David Pastrnak, Mitch Marner, Sebastian Aho, Auston Matthews... there's actually too many star players to list but that's one of the appealing aspects of ice hockey to me; each team has at least a few star level players and this means that there's a wide range of top end teams that can actually make a run for the championship (more so than in other sports in my opinion) due to the way teams are budgeted and have salary caps. 3. While american football has insanely hard tackles, I would argue that they are much more common in ice hockey and due to the fact that you can have players skating around 35-40 kmh or 22-25mph this means the hits can be devastating. Furthermore, generating power from pushing against ice as opposed to grass will generate more force, not less. If you're looking for good videos about some of the best players to play the game I suggest looking at some of the NHL top 100 players of all time videos. Mario Lemieux, Teemu Selänne, Pavel Datsyuk, Peter Forsberg are some of my favourite of the series.
Only thing I'd disagree on is the McDavid being the messi of hockey. I'd have to give that to Crosby at the moment also dont think kucherov gets the credit he deserves for his play he's better than Mcdavid at the moment imo.
Also to answer your question, hockey is very popular in Northern Europe. Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Denmark, etc. all have ice hockey leagues
Also, rinks are smaller in North America which promotes a rougher style than Europe. Before the USSR broke up they were the class of the world. Now many of their best players play in the NHL. The North America league as thats where the money is. USA loves Hockey but it is not nearly as popular as Football, baseball or basketball. So the majority of good players here are Canadian. And from cold Euro countries. Again because of the money. Some Euro players have a tough time adjusting here though because of the smaller rinks and it being rougher here. Fighting is often a strategic element of the game. It is used for intimidation. Revenge and maybe to put a better player in the penalty box among other things than being just angry. They have actually cracked down on the fighting somewhat. Before the mid-80's it was much worse. Or some might say better. :)
Finland Won The U20 at Vancouver B.C - that is in Canada ! At Bratislava - That is in Slovakia - This may Finland Won The WC Title ! Cheers & No Worries
A hockey player can skate up to 30 mph or 48 kph. A hockey player skates 1.5x the speed of an American football player, on average weigh 20% less, and exert 20% more force in a hit. On ice, you can actually both accelerate and decelerate faster than running on the ground. The two red lines at the ends of the rink are the goal lines. The red line in the middle is the center line. If you shoot the puck past the goal line from behind the centerline it is known as an icing. Play stops and the face off is all the way back on the other side of the rink. The blue lines separate the zones from the neutral zone. The puck must cross into the offensive zone before any player, or it is offsides, and the face off is taken in the 4 dots in the neutral zone. If it goes out of bounds, faceoff is at closest dot, if play is stopped by the goalie, the faceoff is inside the offensive zone. In international hockey, there is also a 2 Line pass, in which case you can’t pass over any 2 of these lines in one pass. I hope this helps you to understand gameplay. Check out top ten hockey fights of the decade.
That's some good info. Just one issue. The fastest skater in the league can barely touch 25mph. I'd say most players are between 20-24 mph top speed. You might be thinking about actual speed skaters in the Olympics.
Boris Mekochvelov Wayne Gretzky is the goat, but the most skilled guy for dangles and dekes is definitely Datsyuk! Watch his career highlight reel, simply breathtaking.
Hockey hits are way harder, the max speed they travel at can be up to 30mph or 48kph and even faster. You can thrust your body upwards using the ground just like football and they hurt more since it’s played at such high speeds. Plus landing on ice isn’t as friendly as grass.
Coming from someone who likes hockey more than football you are very wrong on the speed😂 this past fastest skater competition connor mcdavid won and he hit a max speed of like 24
eeeh, the hardest hits yeah, but the majority are not as hard. Most hockey hits are taken on the boards which actually bend a bit to absorb the force so they're not terrible.
@@thekillers1stfan what rink have you played in that the boards have give? The only rinks I've seen with give in ths boards also have an NBA team playing in the same arena.
Canada need a New Gretzky ! Since 1988 - when an Oiler turned to a California KING - California has Won more Stanley Cups - than all Canadien Teams togerher ? 1993 was an Great series - Gretzky vs Montreal ! Torontos Matthews is from Arizona - so He is No New Gretzky !
@@holoholopainen1627 You idiot: Stanley Cup stats from a cereal box? The only reading you do? New Gretzky: Connor McDavid...now repeat that slowly until it sinks in😂!
When you actually said “yeah that guy right there is the Messi of ice hockey who has the puck now” you were actually right 😂😂 his name is Pavel Datsyuk. You should react to him too. His nickname is literally the magic man bc that’s literally all he does.
Deke is pronounced Deek. Juke is the whole idea of moving your body or an object to a direction then back/to another direction after the opponent is trying to read/go after the original move. The term deke is a juke move but instead of your body, it's with the puck. I don't think it has anything to do with the French (Canadian) language but more to specify what's happening as you can still juke in hockey. Mainly Hockey jukes is a guy with the puke going right then stopping and going left and keeps on doing that until he can beat the defender/get an open pass/goal. Next, top speeds in Hockey is usually around 18-20 miles per hour (that's not just top speeds but what you see the players going at all the time as it's not hard for a person to reach their top speed on skates if they know how to) but top speed has also been seen going close to 28-30 miles per hour and I believe world record in all hockey gear is 34 miles per hour. World record on skates without gear and an open space is about 75-85 miles her hour. None the less, getting hit at 18 miles per hour has the equivalent gforce of getting hit by a car. The puck is also a little bigger than when you watch it on camera. If you ever pick up a hockey stick, the puck is about 1/2 to maybe 1/3 of the blade. When you feel like your stick is broken/going to break, you have to drop your stick. If you lose control and dont have your stick, you can pick it up when you can but it can remain on the floor. If you don't have a stick, the same rules apply where you can still hit legally into the person with the puck/try to get the puck away.
@@prodICYN pretty sure a speed skater record holder set it for about 70. but literally thats all your focused on in the entire 2 year old comment? LMFAO
Its played more by the general public in canada and canada produces the most pro players however due to our low population there are more american nhl teams.
Toronto Goth Rap Live Not that much faster maybe by a couple km’s but 40 is pretty much the top. They hooked up the fastest skaters this year to see how fast they were going.
If you put the NHL's fastest skater/Conor McDavid on ice right beside the fastest runner in the NFL who runs on the field, but they run the length of the field and straight, the skater blows the runner away, it's common sense, especially if its straight, which is how the NFL combine calculates their speed in the 40 yard dash. Shorter the distance, the closer it will be for a runner on the field. Also the NHL has them do 4 turns, which drastically decreases their speed, as in the NFL its just a straight run, 40 yards to see who's the fastest! It's not really a fair comparison - less friction on the ice b/c of the metal blades and skaters continue to move forward without any real effort (called gliding), while running on the field in order to continue forward, you need to keep moving forward.
@Eddie VIII On skates they beat any runner in 40 yards. Skating is closer to bike speeds. Without the skates, I agree: most of them wouldn't do 40 yards in 4 secs. Doesn't mean they're not athletes: They just train differently, for what hockey needs. They have to have more weight than a runner can afford to be fast. They have to train somewhat what the American football players do. In any pro sports the top level is so competed there are only certain ways you can get there. It comes down to eating, sleeping and the sports specific training, and all other factors a pro athlete needs.
@Eddie VIII Real athletes they are - as are the hockey players. It takes speed and power and quick wits. It's true hockey players play somewhere between 18-25 mins normally. Just i sounds like you have never played hockey. It's not wise to go strong against something you don't have much experience of. I've played football and basketball too, though the American football only with classmates in a scram without paddings. But hockey is like running 200 or 400 meters, or 60m sprints multiple times. Plus you get smashed with more power than in the American football. That's why they have to come after 2 mins at least. Like any human being. I don't know what you call it in English, but when you do many sprints, your body burns the calories so fast it produces certain types of acid, that the blood has to move away for you legs to gain their pwer again. If you don't do that, your legs just move shakily, and not close to their full potential. Hockey is one the most explosive sports. Sprint runs are the closest you can compare it to. But then there are the tackles when people go maybe 25 miles per hour. Maybe it's this you don't understand if you haven't skated. They don't 'just skate' - You have to go fast, because the opponent does too: sometimes as fast as they can. And it's quick to change direction or stop on the skates, so you have to ract fast. It equires more stamina than Basketball - and they are trained athletes in shape too. Bb needs the explosive power to jump, ad good balance. But so does hockey - the skates are two double edged blades under your shoes - like two thin blades next to each other under both feet. Look - I respect the athleticism in bb and American football, I wouldn't even dream to question it. I don't just understand why you try to put down Ice Hockey? Is it a racial discrimination thing? Well, there are some black, Oriental and Latin guys in the NHL now, first maybe sice 80's. Some with Native American roots even before. I'm from Europe, here there's no such label on hockey of being a 'white man's sport'. My country is very up in the North of Europe, so for us Hockey was winter sprts, football (soccer) summer sports. Or has some hockey player, or fans, treated you bad? Well, they were the stupid ones deserving your anger. But it doesn't mean hockey doesn't require athleticism. And athletes can be jerks, divas. Like some NBA or NFL players too.
@Eddie VIII Thank you. I'm Finnish, Selänne is our Hockey Icon. Though he's more Californian now. Hope he doesn't run for a governor :) And I know Forsberg of course. Sweden is the team we Finns love to hate, and they tend to add oil to the flames with some air of superiority. Many - not all - of them have this big brother syndrome, it goes all the way back to the 18th century, when we were their colony, until 1808. Of course traditionally we were the underdogs. Now it's more even - but they are still ahead in most categories. Now I'm a bit off who are their best at the moment. I know Karlsson from San Jose, Lundqvist, was it NY Rangers, and are the Sedins still playing? We have some new talents in the NHL: Aho, Rantanen, Teräväinen... Laine (?). And many goalies. Rask might get the Cup this year in Boston. St. Louis doesn't seem to have any Finns now :) They have had a remarkable season - I think they were last in NHL still in November, losing in big numbers (Laine scored 5 goals in a game against them!) - and look at them now in finales.
Having played both hockey and American football, hockey is definitely a rougher sport. You can get going faster in hockey than football, because the blades on the skates give better grip than even football shoes, plus you keep going that speed when you stop pushing. Also, when you get hit, it's not the end of the play like in football. Stuff is still going on, and now you have to get back up and catch up with it, because someone has the puck and is trying to score.
BRO I'M FUMING HOW COULD YOU SAY THIS IS PLAYED MORE IN AMERICA EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN CANADA PLAYS HOCKEY. I'm just kidding I'm not mad at all ahah but this sport is actually wayyy more popular in Canada than anywhere else
Garrett Cowart When your passport says the word “America” then you can call your country America. A Canadian passport says “Canada” so that’s not the same. Please understand that Canada is part of the North American continent but isn’t called America for short like it is for the United States of America. People in other countries both in North and South America get so butthurt that the U.S.A. is called America and her people Americans and I laugh at their feeble attempts to discredit our moniker. ‘Murica!
Bro... Minnesota is the state of hockey. I’m in the dual southwest corner of the state, but there is an outdoor rink at least 25 miles from the next. Look up the small towns like Roseau, Warroad, and Wayzata. They essentially manufacture professional players.
I played both hockey and football in high school. Hockey is the toughest sport I’ve ever played. I’m terms of physical toughness and toughest in terms of skill required to be good. I’ve never been hit harder than i have in hockey. I can even remember the hit. In hockey we’re going 25+ mph. Much faster than a football player runs. Sports science did an episode about hockey vs football and hockey hits are 17% harder on average. When you’re good on skates you can dig your edges in and basically become immovable. I got hit hard in football. But nothing like hockey. 2 guys doing 25mph hitting eachother is basically a car crash without the car
Pronounced “Deeks”, no worries bud. We’re friendly we don’t mind helping lol. Blue Lines show the Offside line basically. Red Line is like the line for Faceoffs/(like a Kick-Off) the Circles are where play resumes after a stoppage in play. Those were bad but I think the creator of the video didn’t look for the most creative dekes. There are way more moves like between the legs or one handed moves.
Logan Bilodeau Deeks!! Haha finally know how to say it properly 👍🏼 & appreciate the reply to the questions we had, feel free to send a better dekes vid & can react to it 👊🏼
Itsyourboytee try this one out. Haven’t seen the whole thing but it has some good ones (you can also call them Dangles by the way) th-cam.com/video/9MJyWhkK9vw/w-d-xo.html
talking about speeds they can easily hit 40km/h when going fast but in general skating is a lot faster than running. Skates are sharp, you can truly dig deep into the ice and get some mad power. If you thought footballers had mad legs, you haven't seen a hockey players legs. Those are legit trunks lmao.
It's only played more in America because they have 100 times our population. But the percentage is not comparable. Most Canadian boys don't have a choice. When they are 4-5-6 years old, they are forced to try hockey by their parents. My cousin hates hockey, but he played when he was that age because everyone has to give it a try for some reason. Same as Futbol or Rugby in the UK.
You all have no idea how difficult it is to do what they’re doing in this deke (rhymes with geek) video. Even thinking that it takes more skill to play soccer than hockey is ludicrous. Oh and commenting on how difficult it must be to score a goal in hockey when the net is small and the goalies keep getting bigger every year should prove the point. It’s not easy at all yet these masterly skilled players in the NHL can and do score deftly even though all opposing players on the ice (yes it’s called an ice rink) and the supremely skilled goalies are trying to stop it from happening. You should react to Hockey vs. Soccer and Hockey Coach vs. Soccer Coach to see the difference. I left you guys two links at the bottom of this post. Maybe you’ll have more respect for the beautifully brutal game of hockey and less for your beloved “Football” aka Soccer (a name you shouldn’t scoff at because it came from England). th-cam.com/video/zQCPb2yRK2U/w-d-xo.html th-cam.com/video/41VmKS-VGiA/w-d-xo.html Hockey players pretend they’re not hurt, soccer players pretend they are.
@@kmckay73 you aright..so many skill sets to learn..learning to skate, puck handle, pass, shoot all while avoiding people from body checking you. it clearly is the most difficult sport. Skating is not something natural that humans do, but running is!
Bobby Baun was injured in the final game of the Stanley Cup finals (the NHL Championship series) in 1964,who got injured early in the game and came back. He scored the winning goal and then revealed that he been playing on a broken ankle. These guys are tough.
remember that when you see this everyone is moving at around 20 km/h and up also handling the puck, dekeing the defense out and then the precision of scoring all at high speeds while trying not to get demolished from an open ice hit
Dustin Byfuglien, guy is a one man wrecking crew. And, you can absolutely skate faster than you can run. These guys can skate 152m (with 4 turns requiring them to slow down) in about 14 seconds (some guys can do it under 14 seconds) By comparison, Usain Bolt has run a world record 19.19s 200m or about 1 second every 10 meters. So, unless an NFL player is faster than Usain Bolt, hockey players are moving MUCH faster Also, these are the fastest guys using hockey skates, if you want to see pure speed, speed skaters can do 500m in under 35 seconds, the wold record 400m runner is over 40 seconds
@Cody Todd Not much of a difference? Let's math this NHL Players weigh about 200lbs these days, some much less, some more, but about average. And, at your average speed of 24 mph each that is a combined force of 10554 Joules. - These are based on average weights and speeds, NOT the biggest and fastest NFL players, and I'll use the fastest players at their respective positions, Fournette being hit by Mark Barron - At max speed can create a hit that would create 9216 Joules (energy) Let's re-use Fournette, but this time maybe use a lineman, cause of the mass, but speed dips a bit. Ziggy Ansah, fasted Dlineman, and Fournette can create 9843 Joules.. Average NHL hit - 10,554 Joules Biggest NFL hit - 9,843 Joules Yes, there is a significant difference i potential hit power
It’s pronounced deeks. And it’s not that it’s played more in either country, it’s just bc there are 24 American NHL teams and 7 Canadian NHL teams. But literally every team has a handful of Canadian and a few (like my favourite) has a handful of Americans.
The building is called an arena. The playing area is called the rink. The ice itself is called the "ice surface". As for the markings, they mostly just indicate each teams zone, plus a halfway point, goal lines, and face off points.
Hockey's Lionel Messi is Connor McDavid. Other top players are Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin, Erik Karlsson, Patrick Kane, and Pekka Rinne. Some of the newer kids which will be the league's next generation of stars are Alexis Lafrenière, Elias Pettersson, Carter Hart, Rasmus Dahlin, and Jack Hughes.
The word dekes is pronounced "deeks". Hockey was invented in Canada. Up until the 1960s 99% of hockey players in the NHL were Canadian but now they make up about 50%. Hockey is Canada's most popular sport for far, more popular than every other sport put together, whereas hockey in the U.S. is a distant 4th or lower at best. It is called the ice rink or rink. The blue lines are offside lines - the puck must cross the blue line ahead of the player otherwise the play is stopped due to it being offside. The circles and other red dots are "faceoff" circles where the referee "drops the puck".
Hockey is more brutal than NFL with the hits. They move at faster speeds, and can generate a lot of force by digging their skates into the ice on an angle, that's actually how they generate their skating speed as well. To top it all off, they wear smaller pads AND smaller helmets, making the protection significantly lower and their mobility much higher (giving them the ability to explode harder into their hits). Beyond ALL the in-game hitting and full-speed collisions; hockey players are ALLOWED to fight an opponent 1-on-1 and there is no extra penalties for delivering a knockout punch (fighters receive a 5 minute major penalty regardless). Even NFL and Rugby players call hockey a brutal sport.
Mason Hinch I’d agree on offensively no doubt but you have to look at other areas of the game. Crosby is a more balanced player with better hockey iq. McDavid still only has been in the league for 3 years though. I don’t think there’s any doubt he will overtake Crosby before Crosby retires in a few years, but not rn.
Young man who said the word violated is exactly right. I played 11 years pro hockey at the junior level and when someone comes down and goes around here what a great move and scores a goal while you feel more violated
Momentum is a function of velocity and mass, hockey players hit harder because they are moving faster. That's just physics, not opinion. American football is brutal because you're getting hit pretty much every play. And hard, that shit ain't safe. Ice hockey hits can be as bad as a car accident, if both guys are moving fast. 15 mph in opposite directions is like hitting a brick wall at 30 mph. That doesn't happen often, and it might be a penalty. Damn sure makes the highlight reel, though. I'm Canadian, I can't skate and I don't want to hit the wall at 30 kph never mind mph.
You need to see The Paul Newman Movie SLAPSHOT ! IT is Done late 70s - before You were Born ? Everybody Who knows anything about Ice Hockey is in That Movie ! Have Fun !
Red line = center line Blue lines = offside line ( would be similar to your back line in football) the puck must pass this line before any player of the attackng team enters the zone. The faceoff circles in each zone are for when the goalie (keeper) covers the puck and stops play. Then they have a faceoff for the puck at those dots.
To answer a few questions that have probably already been answered anyway: Deke is pronounced deek. Like geek but with a d. Ice hockey is played on a rink, although that’s also sometimes the word for the building itself. The lines at the ends are goal lines, same as in football. The blue lines are to determine offsides. The center red line is to determine icing. The dots are where play is restarted with a faceoff. If the faceoff is at a dot with a circle around it, it means that the only players allowed in the circle before the puck is dropped are the players taking the faceoff. Getting deked is probably on par with getting hit hard or losing a fight in terms of embarrassment. Hockey is played in Scandinavia, Russia, Germany, Austria, Denmark, etc. The player who is most similar to Messi in hockey is probably Connor McDavid, but the best player currently playing is generally considered to be Sidney Crosby.
Haha it was funny with you guys trying to pronounce deke (pronounced like deek) because it's such a common hockey slang since I'm born and raised in Canada haha.....and to correct you on one serious point....there's more kids playing street hockey moving nets for cars in Canada than the US every day of the week haha and even if it were the the way around....we'd still be whopping them yanks up haha
im not the biggest fan of reaction channels but the hockey stuff is funny. its funny seeing people who dont really understand hockey watch amazing hockey videos
on ice players reach around 35-40 km/h top speed, the hits are harder then the NFL but less injury prone as its mostly shoulder contact. + messi of hockey either mcdavid crosby or ovechkin
Also player comparison. Wayne Gretzky = Pele Alexander Ovechkin & Sidney Crosby = Messi & Ronaldo of the NHL Patrick Kane is a Messi level player as well but usually Crosby and Ovechkin get compared against each other the most. Connor McDavid = Luka Mondric young phenom of the next generation.
This hurts me listening to your questions about the good ol' hockey game, but I'd be the exact same reacting to soccer (futball) hahaha great videos guys! 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
@itsyourboytee As to the markings... the blue bit around the goal is an offside zone, i.e. an attacking player may only enter this room after the puck... otherwise any goal so scored shall be disallowed. The circles (the one in the middle and the ones either side of each goal) are face off markings... if a game is interrupted for any reason, the game will resume with a face off on one of this markings by the ref dropping the puck and one player of each team (typically Centers) will battle for possession of the puck. the red line is the middle line (in the old days it used to be a line to determine whether a player is offside or not, but the respective rule has been dropped and therefore this function is lost)... the blue lines are offside lines, i.e. an attacking player may enter the opponents defensive zone only 1. the puck is already in that zone or 2. he is carrying the puck... if he enters this zone before the puck, it is offside and the game will be interrupted... the red lines in extension of the goal line serve the purpose to determine so-called 'Icing' if a puck is shot from your own defensive zone (while you are one man up or even strength) and crosses the opposing line without being touched by any player of either team, the game is stopped and resumed in front of your own goal and you may not change players...
A deke, pronounced to rhyme with seek, is a maneuver to fool a defender about the direction of movement. A dangle is a maneuver where the puck holder passes the puck to himself.
Razor sharp blades on your feet, fighting is permitted, yes I’d say number 1 toughest sport on the planet. Loved the reaction boys! Cheers! From Canada
Being on the ice makes you able to dig into it and generate much more force than on ground or turf, the proof of that is in the speed that hockey players travel in equal distances compared to turf or field sports..., further more landing on ice and having such a high rate of impact on person to person is much more dangerous when you include hard ice , hard boards, blades, and even metal post into the equation
On the firm ground (eg. American football, soccer, etc...), a player can juke (a quick move to one side or the other), on the ice it's called a deke (pronounced deek).
Lol he was joking about the Messi bit but that was Pavel Datsyuk. Which I would consider him a Messi-like player. Wayne Gretzky would be equivalent to Pele. The best player to ever play
Cool vid!!! Enjoy watching ppl discover my fav sport. Bit of a learning curve to get familiar with it. It is very quick moving as well, so it takes a minute to adjust to the speed. But once you get past that, it is such an incredible sport. Kind of a mixture of footy, basketball, and NFL/rugby all wrapped into a single sport. Have a lot of ex-pat Brits in my area that have fallen in love with the game. Takes them a game or two of watching it to adjust to the difference in pace between footy and hockey, and kinda learn the rules; but once they do. A lot of them have become quite rabid fans and pile over to my place every Saturday night to have a few beers and watch the game before we go out. Also..... Go Leafs Go!!!! P.S. it is pronounced: deeks. Essentially means jukes.
In Europe the big Ice Hockey countries are Russia, Sweden, Finland and Czech. And challenging them are the Swiss, Slovakia, Denmark, Germany and a few others. UK is just about to make it to the top 16 (think they now will play amongst the top 16 in this spring). Which is the important threshold, because then you'll play in the top rank World Cups, facing the big boys, so your game can develope.
Get on the ice and try those moves .... then you’ll realize how hard it is to pull off those moves. I’m a hockey player and when I watched soccer / football (⚽️) I thought the same “oh those moves look easy , all you gotta do is move the ball between the opponents legs and shoot the ball in the giant net”..when I actually got on the pitch I realized how hard soccer is and how hard it is to copy Messi’s , Ronaldo’s , Neymar’s , Ronaldinhos moves . Great reactions boys 👌🏽 glad to see hockey is being watched in the UK
Sooo, NHL originated in Canada, the word is said (deek) like an Aussie saying deck, next it's called a ice rink, and those markings are where either were the people stand or where the puck is dropped
You can definitely generate power, skates are sharp and you can dig them into the ice. I think the hits in hockey are harder simply because of the speed of which they travel, as well as landing on ice which is solid.
-It's referred to as an ice rink. -The word is pronounced deek. -The circles and dots are all the places a "faceoff" happens. A faceoff is where play is restarted after a stoppage. -Most NHL players can reach a speed of 20+ mph or about 32+ kph. -Hockey is more popular per person in Canada and most kids play it when they grow up there. In America there are so many spots to choose from. Football, Basketball, Baseball, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, so it's hard to get kids into hockey. But there are more NHL teams in USA.
When he asked who was the best at dekeing and you pointed at a random guy, the guy you pointed at is actually coincidentally one of the best to ever do it, thats Pavel Datsyuk from the Detroit RedWings. Also one of the most famously decorated teams in the league
Great timing when asked who's this he Messi of soccer , and saying "that guy right there" literally called the magic man. Pavel Datsyuk (not Charles) is someone you definitely want to check out.
It's spelled(& pronounced)deek. The pitch is called a rink. It's a fun sport, I started playing when I was five.. many many years ago. Unlike football, the off-side lines are stationary - The blue lines are 64 feet from the goals. The puck is a disk of fused rubber that these guys can shoot over 100 mph.
There's so many things I want to touch on here....

Also to answer your question, hockey is very popular in Northern Europe. Russia, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Denmark, etc. all have ice hockey leagues
Also popular in Germany and Switzerland for example. Central europe, northern europe and eastern europe. Popular in all of them.
Canada?
Canada? USA?

30 mph that's speed skaters in the Olympics. Most NHL players are in the 20-24 mph top speed range. No one is skating faster than 25.

@@CarlosLopezReactions agreed lol
The collisions in hockey happen at twice the speed as football
Hope he doesn't run for a governor :)
And I know Forsberg of course.

Canada is Considered America, hence this region is called North America
@@benbossuyt Minnesota is like that half-sibling you never get to see for Canada. Minnesota is exactly like Canada, hence why hockey is huge there.
2 guys doing 25mph hitting eachother is basically a car crash without the car

talking about speeds they can easily hit 40km/h when going fast but in general skating is a lot faster than running.

These guys can skate 152m (with 4 turns requiring them to slow down) in about 14 seconds (some guys can do it under 14 seconds)
By comparison, Usain Bolt has run a world record 19.19s 200m or about 1 second every 10 meters.
So, unless an NFL player is faster than Usain Bolt, hockey players are moving MUCH faster
Also, these are the fastest guys using hockey skates, if you want to see pure speed, speed skaters can do 500m in under 35 seconds, the wold record 400m runner is over 40 seconds
@Cody Todd Not much of a difference? Let's math this
NHL Players weigh about 200lbs these days, some much less, some more, but about average. And, at your average speed of 24 mph each that is a combined force of 10554 Joules. - These are based on average weights and speeds, NOT the biggest and fastest
NFL players, and I'll use the fastest players at their respective positions, Fournette being hit by Mark Barron - At max speed can create a hit that would create 9216 Joules (energy)
Let's re-use Fournette, but this time maybe use a lineman, cause of the mass, but speed dips a bit. Ziggy Ansah, fasted Dlineman, and Fournette can create 9843 Joules..
Average NHL hit - 10,554 Joules
Biggest NFL hit - 9,843 Joules
Yes, there is a significant difference i potential hit power
Hockey is played all around the world. Russia Finland Sweden are quite big with the sport too
It’s pronounced deeks. And it’s not that it’s played more in either country, it’s just bc there are 24 American NHL teams and 7 Canadian NHL teams. But literally every team has a handful of Canadian and a few (like my favourite) has a handful of Americans.

Great stuff. Love from Canada

That type of mentality hinders the growth of the sport🤦♂️
Momentum is a function of velocity and mass, hockey players hit harder because they are moving faster. That's just physics, not opinion.
American football is brutal because you're getting hit pretty much every play. And hard, that shit ain't safe.
Ice hockey hits can be as bad as a car accident, if both guys are moving fast. 15 mph in opposite directions is like hitting a brick wall at 30 mph. Red line = center line
Blue lines = offside line ( would be similar to your back line in football) the puck must pass this line before any player of the attackng team enters the zone.
The faceoff circles in each zone are for when the goalie (keeper) covers the puck and stops play. Then they have a faceoff for the puck at those dots.
To answer a few questions that have probably already been answered anyway:
Deke is pronounced deek.

YEAHHHHHHH canadian here mate. good job mates!
Cheers! From Canada
You guys should watch best NHL shootout goals, they’re like spot kicks
And deke is pronounced deek it rhymes with speak, weak and creek
The best player to ever play
whosAeroxbury Lool what a coincidence man 😂👊🏼
I grew up playing American football and hockey and hockey is wild. Checkin someone into glass wall. I hope uk starts playing hockey
Wayne Gretzky holds almost every stat in hockey and some that will NEVER be beat
I challenge all of you gentleman to try skating on ice with a stick and a puck. Just once,
Essentially means jukes.
you guys are hilarious, thanks for this content
Love hockey. Should see a game in person. See the speed and skills of a nhl game. You cant grasp how fast and hard the game really is on a screen
You should do a full vid on learning about hockey
In Europe the big Ice Hockey countries are Russia, Sweden, Finland and Czech. And challenging them are the Swiss, Slovakia, Denmark, Germany and a few others. UK is just about to make it to the top 16 (think they now will play amongst the top 16 in this spring). Which is the important threshold, because then you'll play in the top rank World Cups, facing the big boys, so your game can develope.
The funny thing is when he asked who the Messi was he pointed at Pavel Datsyuk and he is by far the smoothest hockey player ever
Little ironic they have New York Yankee hats on though
Do way more hockey. Shits entertaining af
Should react to Russia and Canada brawl. Also react to bench clearing brawls.
Hockey is really big in Sweeden, Norway, Finland, Denmark also huge in Czech Republic and Russia...and obviously Canada and America
I've never played soccer but I have seen the net its huge how do you miss
paul1x1 😂😂😂this comment made me laugh loool
I dont understand why they even have goalies. Not meaning to offend but the net is huge. Its like guarding a Friggen apartment(flat)
